Ling Ling Asian Food Los Angeles Event with Katie Chin

Self Disclosure: This post was sponsored by Ling Ling, all opinions expressed in my post are my own.

Last week, I had the wonderful opportunity to attend the Ling Ling Asian Food Los Angeles Event (at Hipcooks in West L.A.)  with a wonderful group of Bloggers and the amazing Chef Katie Chin. It was an amazing experience and I especially enjoyed learning great cooking tips from Katie Chin and tasting the delicious Ling Ling food products! We were put into small groups and we actually made two recipes: Kale with Ginger, which is a delicious salad and Sweet & Spicy Green Beans. They were simple recipes and Katie Chin made everything seem super easy!

I know that I will be making both of these recipes for my family for Chinese New Year! My favorite was the Sweet & Spicy Green Beans!

Besides having so much fun at this event and meeting Katie Chin, my favorite thing was trying the delicious Ling Ling food! I had tried the Fried Rice before but had not tried the Noodles or the Potstickers. So, I was really excited to try both of them!

It’s really difficult to just pick one of their products as my ultimate favorite because everything was so good! I loved the delicious Authentic Asian Style Noodles! They were absolutely tasty! I tried the Drunken Noodles and the Yakisoba Noodles and I liked both of them so cannot choose between the two! I am already a big fan of Ling Ling’s Fried Rice so I am planning to make it for Chinese New Year for my family. If I have to choose a favorite though, it would be the Potstickers! I hadn’t tried them before and let’s just say…you can’t just have one! I REALLY can’t wait to find these at my local store and make them for the Chinese New Year! You can check out Ling Ling’s website here!

I also learned so much about Chinese New Year from the knowledgeable Chef Katie Chin and I am truly looking forward to making a celebration for my family this year! I actually am planning to make a feast with Ling Ling Fried Rice, Noodles and Potstickers. I am also on the lookout to find their Spring Rolls!  I will also be buying a few Red & Gold decorations and you can easily use red napkins and Oriental Trading and World Market have some really nice decorations.

I also learned about some Chinese New Year customs and superstitions from Katie Chin. Two of my favorites are the following:

1. Greeting friends with oranges or tangerines during the New Year will ensure that your friendships remain intact.

2. No sweeping on New Year’s Day as you’ll sweep all your good luck out the door. No sweeping for me on February 16th!

Here are a couple more:

Stepping into new shoes on New Year’s morning to start your year off on the right foot (A Personal Favorite of Chef Katie)
Distribution of Red Envelopes (signifying Joy and Luck) filled with money to start the year with prosperity.

So, how do you plan to celebrate Chine New Year this February 16th? Don’t forget to look for the tasty Ling Ling products at your local store! Find out where to buy here!

Asian-Inspired Blount Bowls are a must-try!

Looking for a tasty meal that is ready in just a few minutes? The Asian-Inspired Blount Bowls are a hit with me! I had the opportunity to try a few of them and my favorite is the Hibachi Chicken & Rice Bowl! It’s so good and a great item to have for lunch or dinner especially on a Winter day! There are gluten-free, vegan, and vegetarian options and literally, they take less than 5 minutes to make! They cost under $6.00 and are available at select retailers nationwide. I love how fresh they taste and that they are a healthier option. The Chicken Ramen Noodle is also really good! Also available in Coconut Chicken & Noodle and Vegetable & Rice. Look for them at a retailer near you!

BB, a 3-year-old pit bull terrier, was abandoned outside a housing project, tied up and waiting for his fate. Luckily, he was picked up and socialized at our shelter where he’s enjoyed doggie play groups. This 45-pound, energetic good guy will be a great match for an active owner. Maze Runner: The Death Cure – Packed with Action Beginning to End

In the epic finale to The Maze Runner Saga, Thomas leads his group of escaped Gladers on their final and most dangerous mission yet. To save their friends, they must break into the legendary last city, a WCKD controlled labyrinth that may turn out to be the deadliest maze of all. Anyone who makes it out alive will get the answers to the questions the Gladers have been asking since they first arrived in the maze. Will Thomas and the crew make it out alive? Or will Ava Paige get her way? KIDS FIRST! Film Critic Calista B. comments, “This film is full of action from beginning to end. During the production of this film in 2016, Dylan O’Brien was severely injured on set. Because of that, the film was delayed and is just now being released. I’m so sorry about Dylan’s accident and believe that the wait was worth it, as I love this movie.”  Tristan T. adds, “Based upon the novel, The Death Cure by James Dashner, The Maze Runner the Death Cure is the third and final film in the Maze Runner trilogy.  It is a very satisfying conclusion to the series and wraps up most questions for fans.” See their full reviews below.

Maze Runner: The Death Cure

By Calista B., KIDS FIRST! Film Critic, Age 14

This film is full of action from beginning to end. During the production of this film in 2016, Dylan O’Brien was severely injured on set. Because of that, the film was delayed and is just now being released. I’m so sorry about Dylan’s accident and believe that the wait was worth it, as I love this movie.

This is the third and final installment of the Maze Runner trilogy. Thomas and his friends head to the last standing city to save their friend, Minho and take down the Government Association known as WCKD.

I’m quite a fan of the Maze Runner books, so I can vouch for the accuracy of this movie. Quite a bit of the story is different from the book. Even the plot of saving Minho isn’t in the book. He is with the group in the book. However, all the major events are still the same as both stories involve taking down WCKD.

This movie is fast moving and heart racing. In almost every scene something exciting is happening. The film barely gives you time to rest. I feel like this keeps you on edge and it works. During some scenes I tensed up, with my fists clenched. The action is actually very effectively exciting. There are tons of explosions, and fire and gunshots. And they are all so cool. The special effects are really impressive.

This film is a dystopian story. The reason the world ends in this story is an illness known as the “Flare” that turns people into zombie-like creatures. The makeup used for the creatures, known as Cranks, is outstanding. Here’s a shout out to the entire makeup department.

The acting is also really good. Dylan O’Brien, who plays Thomas and Thomas Brodie-Sangster, who plays Newt, have incredible performances. I will not spoil what happens, but one specific performance from them had me in straight up tears.

Also, the city where most of the film takes place, known as Last City, has a very neat design. It looks intimidating, yet beautiful. It felt like Los Angeles, but darker. I’m curious if the director, Wes Ball, plans to do the prequels, as there are two prequels. I give this movie 5 out of 5 stars and recommend it for ages 12 to 18. It comes out in theaters January 26, 2018 so be sure to check it out.

Maze Runner: The Death Cure
By Tristan T., KIDS FIRST! Film Critic, age 15

Based upon the novel, The Death Cure by James Dashner, The Maze Runner the Death Cure is the third and final film in the Maze Runner trilogy.  It is a very satisfying conclusion to the series and wraps up most questions for fans.  This film is very fun and entertaining.  The one thing that disappointed me was the length of time since the last film, The Maze Runner the Scorch Trials.  It came out September 2015, so you may need a little refresher course prior to watching the final film.

My favorite character is Newt, played by Thomas Brodie-Sangster.  I have cheered for Newt during the whole trilogy as he brings so much life to the entire film.  His character has depth and passion, but in a light-hearted way.  I find him very relatable and, without giving away any spoilers, his character will touch you deeply during this final film.

The bond of friendship is a strong theme throughout the trilogy, but nothing has been as powerful as it is in Maze Runner the Death Cure.  I love how the screenwriter, T.S. Nowlin, pushes each character to their limits, testing their abilities and gives viewers insight into their mindset and true vulnerabilities.

As in the previous two films, the cinematography is amazing.  While the backdrop is futuristic, you do not have the feeling that everything is overly CGI.  Even the fight scenes are pretty realistic.  I find it interesting that the whole film was shot in Cape Town, South Africa.

Maze Runner the Death Cure is rated PG-13 for intense sci-fi violence and action.  There is some language, but not much.  If you have been a fan of the Maze Runner series, Maze Runner the Death Cure will not disappoint.  With a running time of 2 hours, 22 minutes, it is a bit long, but there are no drag times. You’ll remain entertained the whole time.  I recommend this film for ages 13 to 18 and give it 4 out of 5 stars.  It opens in theaters January 26, 2018 so look for it.

Yogurtland Adds Two New Scratch-made Flavors to Delicious Dessert Lineup

Yogurtland is ringing in the New Year with two new scratch-made delicious flavors, giving dessert lovers another reason to celebrate.

Expanding on its non-dairy offerings and introducing its first flavor made with coconut milk, Yogurtland’s new Piña Colada flavor combines real pineapple with creamy coconut milk for a fruity, tropical treat.

As a follow-up to its ice cream introduction this past summer, Yogurtland teamed up with OREO® for a handcrafted ice cream flavor. The new OREO Cookies & Crème Ice Cream combines real OREO chocolate cookies and vanilla for a perfectly creamy ice cream.

This past weekend was like a nice Sunny Summer Day so my son and I decided after a visit to the beach that we would stop by our favorite local Yogurtland! I love visiting Yogurtland because even if it is crowded, the line moves quickly and I also find a great flavor that I haven’t yet tried!  I love the new Pina Colada! It’s light and has a great flavor! It’s great with fruit toppings and even a delicious cookie..or two!

My son wanted to try the OREO® Cookies & Creme Ice Cream but it was so popular at our local store, that they no longer had it! He still loves their other flavors of ice cream!  I was going to take a photo but he quickly started to eat his yogurt before I could get a photo.

I love that there are such great choices such as non-fat and low-fat and that they even have choices with no sugar!

Presently Yogurtland has more than 320 locations across the U.S., Australia, Dubai, Guam, Korea, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand, and Venezuela. Flavors are always subject to creative change and popular demand. For more information, visit http://www.yogurt-land.com or http://www.facebook.com/yogurtland.

Show your hands some love with these fun Valentine’s Day-inspired nail ideas from beauty expert, Skyy Hadley to take your look to the next level.

Whether you’re spending Valentine’s Day with a significant other or watching rom-coms with your BFF, nothing’s more festive than a pink or red manicure.

A lesson in red: If you can’t decide which color is your perfect red, just try them all at once for this monochromatic look.

A couple things you must know about painting your nails/tips when executing this trend:

  • Always use a base coat
  • Stay away from quick-dry nail polish (it dehydrates and can dry out your nails)
  • Apply cuticle oil religiously
  • Hold your hands under cold water post paint job
  • Apply thin, not thick, coats of polish
  • Always use a top coat
