Yorkie Splash & Shine is a hit for all breeds of dogs! Giveaway Opportunity!

photo 3

Are you looking for a fantastic shampoo, conditioner and detangling spray for your dog? We recently received a travel set from Yorkie Splash and Shine and were quite impressed! We don’t have a Yorkie but it is a great set for all breeds of dogs! Bella, the Golden Retriever agreed that this is a Must-Have for all dogs! The shampoo and conditioner are best used together. The detangler (which is our favorite!) can be used every day as a freshener between baths or as a bushing aid. You can spray the detangler directly onto the coat or onto your dogs favorite brush. We like to use this on Bella every couple of days and she seems to like it!

Just look at Bella’s happy face! You can find these products at

I really like that there are no chemicals in the shampoo. The products help restore the natural skin oils on the coat and hair while restoring the skin’s natural pH balance. These products even smell good! The shampoo is an aloe castile soap, made from organic oils of olive, jojoba, and coconut. I would recommend these products for all dogs and if my cat would take a bath, I would try them on him! (But, I am not ready to attempt that feat!)

The Giver – An Intense Film About The Effects Of Accepting The Good And Bad Things Memories Of Life KIDS FIRST! Coming Attractions,

Based on Lois Lowry’s book, this highly anticipated film tells the story of a perfect world where everyone is happy. When Jonas is 12 years old, he’s chosen to be the community’s Receiver of Memories where he learns about pain, sadness, war and all the unhappy truths of the “real” world. He quickly realizes that his community is fake and faces difficult choices about his own life and his future. KIDS FIRST! Film Critic Willie J comments, “This film is really quite an achievement. To bring such a loved and popular book, with tons of deep ideas and themes, and execute as wonderfully as Director Philip Noyce and company do, is great.” Samantha A adds, “This movie is very captivating. I had my eyes glued to the screen the whole time, not wanting to miss a second of the story.”

The Giver
Willie J., KIDS FIRST! Film Critic, age 15
Full of pretense, theories on life and enough ideas to cause you to rethink your own ideas, The Giver is an intense film about the effects of accepting the good and bad things memories of life.

Being a huge Meryl Streep fan (Chief Elder), I was very excited to see her performance and, I was not disappointed. Jeff Bridges’ (The Giver) performance gives this film a veteran presence that adds to the wisdom their characters possess. As for Brenton Thwaites (Jonas) and Odeya Rush (Fiona), their performances show great promise for their careers. Their youth and lack of experience add a sense of naïveté to their characters that beautifully contradicts with the characters played by both Streep and Bridges.

I find the script a bit pretentious but necessarily so. The premise itself is very complex but suitable for the subject matter. What could have 90 minutes of melodrama turns into brilliant and intelligent conversations thanks to the skills of the ensemble. I give an Oscar nod for both Meryl Streep and Jeff Bridges.

There is a scene towards the end of the film where The Giver and Chief Elder debate on the pros and cons of memories and allowing people to make decisions. That is one of the very best acted scenes I’ve seen this year. The dialogue is so poetic that we’re drawn into the fantasy instead of repulsed by its theatrical nature.

My favorite part of the film, second to Meryl’s performance, is the beautiful cinematography by Ross Emery. Mr. Emery and Editor Barry Alexander Brown really come together wonderfully to create awesome moments of visual storytelling. The mixture of black and white with color, and the short shots of real life events give this film a certain vivacity the book is unable to give.

This film is really quite an achievement. To bring such a loved and popular book, with tons of deep ideas and themes, and execute as wonderfully as Director Philip Noyce and company do, is great. I give this film 4 out of 5 stars and really hope you see it. It opens theatrically on August 15. Due to the mature themes and ideas, I recommend this film for ages 14 to 18.

The Giver

By Samantha Alexander, KIDS FIRST! Film Critic, age 11

The Giver is based the book by Louis Lowry. It tells the story of what seems like a perfect community where there is no pain or suffering – a simple, secluded world where there are no differences and no choices. A young boy named Jonas is selected to become the receiver of memories and he learns from an elderly man about the pain and suffrage, from the outside world, that has been kept from everyone. Jonas soon figures out that his whole life has been a lie and tries to change the way his secluded community is governed.

This movie is very captivating. I had my eyes glued to the screen the whole time, not wanting to miss a second of the story. I was so excited to see this movie because The Giver is one of my favorite books and I think the movie is just as good, although a bit different.

Like most movies that are based on books, there are some big parts of the storyline that the movie misses that I feel would have helped people who hadn’t read the book understand the story better. Although at certain points in the movie it doesn’t matter that parts are missed, because the missed parts are replaced with something equally as great. Then sometimes, the missed parts aren’t replaced and it takes the movie in a whole other direction. That’s why even if you read the book some parts in the movie will be a total surprise. I enjoyed watching the movie and seeing which parts of the book are included and what surprises are added by the movie’s producers.

The actors and actresses in this film are fantastic. Brenton Twaites (Jonas) was born for this role. I really like how bold and brave his character is throughout the whole movie. Meryl Streep fits the role of the chief elder perfectly. Odeya Rush is great as Fiona. I love the fact that she stands with Jonas through thick and thin. Lastly is Jeff Bridges who plays the role of The Giver, he is phenomenal. His character isn’t very outspoken but has a strong on-screen presence and he says a lot just using body language and facial expressions. He has true acting talent.

I rate this movie 5 out of 5 stars because of its great acting, a great story line and definitely worth seeing in theaters with a best friend. I recommend it for 10 to 13-year-olds because the storyline is a bit mature and I don’t think kids under age 10 would understand the story.

Riff Rockit “If I Could Fly” Reminiscent of the 80's and 90's...

unnamed (1)    unnamed

Bringing a taste of ’80s and ’90s anthem rock to kids, Parents’ Choice® Award winning musician Riff Rockit released his third album on July 29th, If I Could Fly.

Wrote The Rock Father in his July 22 review, “It’s no secret that I’m a big fan of RIFF ROCKIT’s theatricality and penchant for arena rock anthems for the Kindie set … His sound is unlike anyone else operating in the family music space, and proceeds from his records benefit blood cancer research.”

James Zahn (a.k.a The Rock Father) describes Riff Rockit this way: “Imagine for a moment a world in which Ace Frehley’s Spaceman alter-ego spawned a guitar slinging son … Now imagine this space suited young man embarking on a career as a children’s entertainer, breaking out kid-friendly power ballads and arena anthems for the toddler set. Intrigued? Welcome to the world of Riff Rockit.”

If I Could Fly lifts off with a blast of guitar energy on the album opener, “Food Groups.” If AC/DC and Kansas had a baby and penned the child a song about food groups and eating healthy, this would be it. “Backyard,” a Van Halen-inspired tune with an irrepressible dance beat, follows. “The Beach Song” conjures gentle images of a day on a California beach à la Seals and Crofts, while the all-things-Hollywood California kitty cat, “Mr. Tux,” brings to mind ’80s electropop in a feline pairing with ’80s rock. If I Could Fly cruises to an expansive conclusion with the album’s title track, a wistful bit of imagination that Riff describes as “Tom Petty mixed with Def Leppard.”

I am a big fan of 80’s and 90’s music and still believe those were the years of the best music! Def Leppard was a favorite of mine and I feel like I grew up with Tom Petty. I received this album to review and really was impressed with songs such as If I could Fly and Beach. It definitely reminds me of those favorite 80’s and 90’s and is a Must-Have for kids of all ages!

Riff Rockit’s alter ego, indie musician and Fort Lauderdale native Evan Michael, is a leukemia survivor with a great desire to help those suffering from blood cancers. Consequently, he will donate all proceeds from If I Could Flyto, an organization whose mission is to deliver cures for blood cancers.

Riff Rockit’s debut recording, the self-titled Riff Rockit (2012) was honored with a Parents’ Choice® Award, a NAPPA Award, and a Mom’s Choice AwardRiff Rockit recently released his first all-Spanish album, Luz Verde Vamos!, and he has also released two DVDs, The Power of Music and Riff Rockit: Live in Concert.

If I Could Fly will be available for purchase at and iTunes, and free downloads of the album will also be available — with a request for voluntary donations — at, a website dedicated to contributions to

Southern California Band’s Video Launch Garners Over 13,000 YOUTUBE Views in Hours Galvanized Souls

You may remember months ago we featured Galvanized Souls and Colin’s anti-bullying message through an amazing YouTube video “Carry On.” This was am amazing message for both kids and adults! SoCal City Kids decided to feature this group of talented musicians on our website.

Galvanized Souls is a hard rock band comprised of four Southern California teenagers, whose enthusiasm and dedication to music pushes their abilities well beyond their years. Formed in December 2012, band members Chris Taylor (guitar/vocals), Zakk Silveira (guitar/lead vocals), Matthew DeMartini (bass/vocals) and Kevin Cogen (Drums).

Galvanized Souls has a 5 song self titled EP, which is available on all digital media outlets.

In addition to the band’s signature heavy sound, one of the most attention grabbing aspects of galvanized Souls’ performance is their harmonizing vocal arrangements. We received their CD to review and their talent definitely shines through. The rich melodies are amazing in their original songs! It really is difficult to decide which song I like best but they do have powerful lyrics in all their songs. (As many of us know because of their YouTube hit Carry On).This is an amazing group of musicians that both kids and adults will like.

Galvanized Souls is headlining shows in Southern California this year so be on the look out for this talented group of musicians! They are participating in several charity concerts and are currently writing and recording new original songs.

Find whatever style you are looking for with great sunglasses from ICU Eyewear.  The biggest decision will be selecting the ones you like best! I received the Retro Cat Eye Polarized Sunglasses in Black and the Butterfly Sunglasses in Tortoise/Ivory styles and I love them both! They are stylish and I can’t choose which is my favorite!  They are made of plastic and seem quite durable. They don’t seem flimsy at all! Many affordable sunglasses that I have tried in the past do not last long because they aren’t very durable. The Retro Cat Eye sunglasses retail for $21.95. The Butterfly Sunglasses style is very pretty and made out of plastic but also seem to be durable and they also retail for $21.95. I just love all the variety of styles!
