Wanda, July 14th Pet of the Week

Wanda, just a year old, is a lovely, little brown tabby who loves to cuddle on your lap. She’s supremely confident and super-friendly. She enjoys her food and water, and she uses her litter box perfectly. We tell you this because she’s blind, but the volunteers swear that she doesn’t know it! Wanda was found as a stray, and it’s heartbreaking to imagine her wandering the streets, sightless, for the first year of her life. She deserves to spend the rest of her years in a loving home. Shelter hours are Wednesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., at 7700 E. Spring St. at the entrance to El Dorado Park (no parking fee for shelter visitors). You can email PetAdopt@longbeach.gov to speed the process for adopting Wanda. Ask for ID#A678717.

Bebita, July 7th Pet of the Week

Bebita’s look of anticipation is likely directed at the sight of a volunteer holding a leash. She’s always ready to go-go-go for a walk! Bebita is a 5-year-old pint-size pittie who’s one of Long Beach Animal Care Services’ longest residents. She’s been waiting for a forever home or a foster since April 2021, and she needs ooouuuutttt! Bebita’s a strong, compact, little ball of fun with a huge smile that goes from giant ear to giant ear! She loves to be near her people but can be protective in the home environment—she’ll need a patient owner to help teach her to trust new people. She will flourish in a breed-experienced home where she is the only pet. Bebita’s long overdue to find her happily ever after and our shelter is at maximum capacity, so please come to meet her! Shelter hours are Wednesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 7700 E. Spring St. at the entrance to El Dorado Park (no parking fee for shelter visitors). You can email PetAdopt@longbeach.gov to speed the process for adopting Bebita. Ask for ID#A656328.

Bowie, June 30th Pet of the Week

Bowie, a very special 2-year-old German shepherd mix, came to Long Beach Animal Care Services as a stray in August 2021—almost a year ago. Poor Bowie was so undersocialized and terrified that it took months for anyone to handle him—we can only guess how sad and lonely his life was. He slowly bonded with his favorite volunteers, and he now understands that many people are good and can be excellent sources of kindness, affection and, of course, treats! Bowie will need a patient, dog-savvy human to provide guidance and reassurance as he builds even more confidence—a relaxed, confident doggie sibling would add goodness to the mix—he likes other dogs! Our shelter is over capacity, and Bowie urgently needs foster, adoption or rescue placement. Shelter hours are Wednesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 7700 E. Spring St. at the entrance to El Dorado Park (no parking fee for shelter visitors). You can email PetAdopt@longbeach.gov to speed the process for adopting Bowie. Ask for ID#A661312.

Niko, June 23rd Pet of the Week

Niko is a little bit of this, a little bit of that—a touch of Rottweiler maybe, a scoop of shepherd, a couple of pinches of Australian kelpie—and a whole lot of personality! His name means “victory of the people,” but Niko needs and deserves some canine victory. He’s a longtime resident of our shelter, and the shelter is way over capacity. Volunteers and staff are actively seeking foster, adoption or rescue placement, and it shouldn’t be difficult if you can provide structure and exercise and can patiently wait for that bond to develoo. Niko’s only 4 years old, has medium energy, is very smart, and is treat motivated. He’s easy to walk on leash and knows several commands—he has the greatest high-five ever! Come meet Niko—shelter hours are Wednesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 7700 E. Spring St. at the entrance to El Dorado Park (no parking fee for shelter visitors). You can email PetAdopt@longbeach.gov to speed the process for adopting Niko. Ask for ID#A605387.

Angel, June 16th Pet of the Week!

Angel, only 2 years old and spayed, was born with a deformity of her front legs, possibly radial hypoplasia, which causes the legs to be permanently bent at right angles. She was once very dearly loved, but her human died, and no one could take her. Volunteer Susan has spent a lot of time with Angel and found that although she’s mostly shy at the shelter, she loves Susan to pet her. “She’s my Angel!” Susan often says. Angel can run and even jump a little, and Susan feels that she’ll bond to another special person and love them as much as she loved her human—and Susan, of course. Shelter hours are Wednesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., at 7700 E. Spring St. at the entrance to El Dorado Park (no parking fee for shelter visitors). You can email PetAdopt@longbeach.gov to speed the process for adopting Angel. Ask for ID#A673474.

Benji, June 9th Pet of the Week

Seriously, this is not only a face that a mother could love but one that anyone could love! And that mug reflects everything about Benji! If anyone asks you what kind of dog Benji is, volunteer Dee said to tell them that he’s a purebred “gud boi.” He’s a happy fellow who waits patiently for volunteer Cheryl to give him his treats and then sits and wags his tail to beat the band while she unlocks his kennel for a walk. Benji’s good on leash and is learning some commands, and that smiling face rocks his Mickey Mouse collar! Shelter hours are Wednesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 7700 E. Spring St. at the entrance to El Dorado Park (no parking fee for shelter visitors). You can email PetAdopt@longbeach.gov to speed the process for adopting Benji. Ask for ID#A671608.

Camillo, June 2nd Pet of the Week

Camillo is a 2-year-old husky mix who hits all the points: beautiful, smart, energetic and friendly! He loves to explore the world around him and would make an excellent walking, running or hiking partner. He’s also an attention grabber on walks thanks to his beautiful, tawny mane and classic good looks. He’s curious about other dogs and enjoys romping around when he meets a good match. Some of his favorite things are long walks on the beach, chasing squirrels, playing keep-away with stuffed toys, and getting cozy with his favorite person. He’s looking forward to meeting you soon! Could that be you? Shelter hours are Wednesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 7700 E. Spring St. at the entrance to El Dorado Park (no parking fee for shelter visitors). You can email PetAdopt@longbeach.gov to speed the process for adopting Camillo. Ask for ID#A665983.

Caesar, May 26th Pet of the Week

Flame-point Siamese-y Caesar is a big boy at 18 pounds. He’s also confident, gentle, sweet and, as you can see, gorgeous beyond belief. Oh—and he’s blind, but he doesn’t seem to notice. In fact, he’s quite comfortable with his situation, at least as far as making the best use of his other senses. His only need is a forever home. Love is blind, especially with Caesar. Shelter hours are Wednesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., at 7700 E. Spring St. at the entrance to El Dorado Park (no parking fee for shelter visitors). You can email PetAdopt@longbeach.gov to speed the process for adopting Caesar. Ask for ID#A673807.
