Bowie, a very special 2-year-old German shepherd mix, came to Long Beach Animal Care Services as a stray in August 2021—almost a year ago. Poor Bowie was so undersocialized and terrified that it took months for anyone to handle him—we can only guess how sad and lonely his life was. He slowly bonded with his favorite volunteers, and he now understands that many people are good and can be excellent sources of kindness, affection and, of course, treats! Bowie will need a patient, dog-savvy human to provide guidance and reassurance as he builds even more confidence—a relaxed, confident doggie sibling would add goodness to the mix—he likes other dogs! Our shelter is over capacity, and Bowie urgently needs foster, adoption or rescue placement. Shelter hours are Wednesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 7700 E. Spring St. at the entrance to El Dorado Park (no parking fee for shelter visitors). You can email PetAdopt@longbeach.gov to speed the process for adopting Bowie. Ask for ID#A661312.
(This rescue encouraged by the usual suspects.)
