Oregon, Oct. 27 Pet of the Week

AWWWWWWWW

Oregon is in a state of bliss on volunteer Susan’s lap. This year-old tuxie boy has two sides to him—cuddly and hilarious. Just before this photo was snapped, he was playing peekaboo with a little girl who’d come to admire the shelter’s cats. Oregon loves people and is the ideal housecat, lap cat and just plain silly cat! Get on the Oregon Trail and adopt or foster him! To adopt or foster Oregon, email PetAdopt@longbeach.gov to speed the process, or call (562) 570-7387. Ask for ID#A701783.

Bosco, Oct. 20 Pet of the Week

Awwww! Too cute!

Look at Bosco, all ready to trick-or-treat with you! Bosco’s a sweetheart, described by a shelter volunteer as a “king goofasaurus derp face with Marty Feldman eyes.” He’s also been at the shelter for a long, long time, and that’s no treat. Without rescue or foster, Bosco might not see the next Halloween. This guy loves to play, is affectionate and tops it all off with a goofy grin. He’s also great on leash, so you can walk off all that Halloween candy at the park with him! With Bosco in your house, you’ll have your tricks and treats in one place! You can speed the process to adopt or foster Bosco and any of our other pets by emailing PetAdopt@longbeach.gov or petfoster@longbeach.gov. You can also call (562) 570-4925. Even better, stop by during our new open walk-in hours every Wednesday through Sunday from 11 a.m.–3 p.m. Our shelter is located at 7700 E. Spring St. Ask for ID#A696134 to meet Bosco.

Bunny Hops, Oct. 13 Pet of the Week

awwwwwwww!

Bunny Hops is into everything! So nosy—she thinks she’s a cat! This poor girl is a mystery. She was tied up and abandoned in a park back in May, and she had a couple of scars that suggested mistreatment. What’s the mystery? Not where she came from, but how, after that bad beginning, she has no fear of humans and is sweet and gentle to everyone she meets. She loves hanging out in the play yard and taking walks with her volunteer friend. She accepts treats gently and adores pets and scritches. She’s only 4 years old and deserves to spend the rest of her good life with someone as loyal as she will be. If you have time to help her decompress from the shelter and can return her affection, she’s yours! You can speed the process to adopt or foster Bunny Hops and any of our other pets by emailing PetAdopt@longbeach.gov or petfoster@longbeach.gov. You can also call (562) 570-4925. Even better, stop by Wednesday through Sunday from 11 a.m.–3 p.m. Our shelter is located at 7700 E. Spring St. Ask for ID #A698850 to meet Bunny Hops.

Pharaoh, Oct. 6th Pet of the Week

Soooo cute! Really needs a forever home!

We featured Pharaoh a month ago, and this time, we have a plea: if he doesn’t find a permanent throne soon, he may need to leave the shelter in a way we’d prefer not to name. He’s been here since May. Pharaoh has no teeth, although he seems to have no trouble eating, as you can see. He had all his teeth pulled because of stomatitis and dental disease, but it hasn’t stopped him from purring and begging for head scritches. And eating, of course. He has some medical conditions that will need to be addressed by his human. Pharaoh’s only 3 years old, and he so deserves a full reign. To adopt or foster Pharaoh, email PetAdopt@longbeach.gov to speed the process for adopting or fostering, or call (562) 570-7387. Ask for ID#A699241).

Irene, Sept. 29 Pet of the Week

awww!

Irene’s beautiful orange eyes against her glossy midnight fur are like twin moons at night. They hold enough kitty mystery and misery to write a sad story, and she could do that if she had opposable thumbs. Irene belonged to an unhoused person whom shelter staff and spcaLA were trying to assist. The person was later found dying on the street. Irene was with the person, on a dirty leash but well groomed and fed. She had obviously been loved very much. Irene’s human would want to know that she’ll be likewise cherished by another person. To adopt Irene, ask for ID# or any pet in the shelter, visit Long Beach Animal Care Services and talk to a volunteer, or call (562) 673-5050. Please check out more pets who need to go home by accessing https://www.longbeach.gov/acs/our-animals/adoptions/. Shelter hours are Wednesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., at 7700 E. Spring St. at the entrance to El Dorado Park (no parking fee for shelter visitors). You can email PetAdopt@longbeach.gov to speed the process for adopting or fostering any pet!

Brownie, Sept. 22nd Pet of the Week

sooo adorable!

Adorable, adoptable Brownie is a 2-year-old sweetie-pie! She was brought to the shelter by her human, an unhoused person who loved her very much but could no longer care for her. She’s been in the shelter since February, and because of overcrowding, euthanasia may be performed, which none of us wants. Brownie is spayed and ready to go to your house, gallop around and play with toys, which she loves to do with our volunteers. She has a smile that will brighten your day. Please brighten hers. You can speed the process to adopt or foster Brownie and any of our other pets by emailing PetAdopt@longbeach.gov or petfoster@longbeach.gov. You can also call (562) 570-4925. Even better, stop by during our new open walk-in hours every Wednesday through Sunday from 11 a.m.–3 p.m. Our shelter is located at 7700 E. Spring St. Ask for ID#A693980 to meet Brownie.

Alonzo, Sept. 15th Pet of the Week

Awwwww

Shelters everywhere have more dogs than they have room or the ability to care for, and Long Beach Animal Care Services is one of them. Alonzo has lived there for nearly a year. He came in as a stray last year in December, and at a year and a half, he’s spent about half his life in a shelter. No fair! Alonzo is a happy, playful boy with high energy and an athletic bent. His dream day would be an adventure walk with his person followed by a nap and then a toy session. He has this great tippy-toe dance when he knows a treat or a toy is coming! Please save his life—literally. You can speed the process to adopt or foster Alonzo and any of our other pets by emailing PetAdopt@longbeach.gov or petfoster@longbeach.gov. You can also call (562) 570-4925. Even better, stop by during our new open walk-in hours every Wednesday through Sunday from 11 a.m.–3 p.m. Our shelter is located at 7700 E. Spring St. Ask for ID#A690707to meet Alonzo.

Pharaoh, Sept. 8th Pet of the Week

tooo cute!

Pharaoh has just finished up a tasty snack. That’s no mean feat—or is it paws?—for him, because he’s completely toothless! Pharaoh had all his teeth pulled because of stomatitis and dental disease, but it hasn’t stopped him from eating, purring, and begging for head scritches. He wouldn’t bite even if he had teeth! He’s just a 3-year-old couch potato. Pharaoh needs to go home because he’s been at Long Beach Animal Care Services since May. He has some medical conditions that will need to be addressed by his human. To give Pharaoh the reign he deserves, email PetAdopt@longbeach.gov to speed the process for adopting or fostering, or call (562) 570-7387. Ask for ID#A699241).
