We Got You * Giving A Voice To Every Kid Who Doesn’t Have Anyone Else To Go To

We Got You is a podcast that gives a voice to every kid out there who doesn’t have anyone to go to, with advice straight from teens who’ve been there before. We Got You is a weekly advice podcast where teens answer questions from middle schoolers across the country on life, loneliness and an uncertain future. We Got You is produced by Sonic Union. KIDS FIRST! Film Critic Eshaan M. comments, “Have you ever felt like you are experiencing something negative that no one else is? Well, We Got You reassures you that there is someone who has been there and done that before, sharing the perspectives of kids on growing up, thriving and surviving in an uncertain world, and dealing with the darker aspects of life.” Avery P. comments, “The We Got You podcast is an amazing outlet for kids and teens that don’t have a voice or need extra inspiration to help cope with their challenges. This podcast is all about helping others hold onto hope. The podcast covers such topics as dyslexia, anxiety, depression, PTSD, social media, bullying and lots more.” Apurva S. wraps it up with, “In the words of Dumbledore, “Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, when only one remembers to turn on the light.” This describes the message of the podcast (even though it’s not said in that way), that you should never lose hope.” See their full reviews below.

We Got You

By Eshaan Mani, KIDS FIRST! Film Critic, age 14

A candid and honest look at modern teens’ lives with incisive commentary on mental illness, coping with conflict and other timely topics, We Got You is a great listen for kids looking for answers.

Have you ever felt like you are experiencing something negative that no one else is? Well, We Got You reassures you that there is someone who has been there and done that before, sharing the perspectives of kids on growing up, thriving and surviving in an uncertain world, and dealing with the darker aspects of life. Each episode has two parts. First, a kid speaks about their experiences. For example, one episode centers around a girl named Asha and her experiences with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. Second, the floor is opened up for questions about the subject, which are submitted through the show’s Twitter account, and the main speaker is joined by one or two other kids who share their personal experiences and thoughts. The show is hosted by actress Samantha Logan, but she takes a backseat in the podcasts, and it feels like each episode is really hosted by the kid who’s sharing their thoughts.

The kids on the show are truly skilled raconteurs, presenting their experiences in an engaging way that makes you feel for them. Many of the speakers bore their hearts on the podcast, especially in the episodes about mental health, and it is heartwarming to see that they feel confident to share their experiences and thoughts so openly. The podcast is full of earnest perspectives and the roundtable segment features lots of great questions that I would definitely have asked. The sound designer Rob Ballingall also beautifully blends together sound bites with some sound effects and background music to make the podcast even more intricate.

The message of We Got You is quite simple: you don’t have to go through anything alone. It’s a podcast with a purpose, a beautiful one at that, and it’s executed wonderfully.

I would give We Got You 5 stars out of 5, and recommend it for ages 12 to 18. You can listen to We Got You on TRAX at https://www.trax.fm/we-got-you

We Got You

The We Got You podcast is an amazing outlet for kids and teens that don’t have a voice or need extra inspiration to help cope with their challenges. This podcast is all about helping others hold onto hope.

Writer / creator (Halle Petro) and producer (Sonic Union) proudly presents We Got You. Many episodes have guest speakers that talk about their conflicts. The podcast covers such topics as dyslexia, anxiety, depression, PTSD, social media, bullying and lots more.

I love this podcast series, because it includes so many inspirational stories. I got a sense of thankfulness while listening to the first couple of episodes. Although the podcast is audio only, it makes you take the time to settle down and listen.  The guest speakers are so strong in their ability to speak out and spread awareness. Each episode is about 15 to 20 minutes long. They are full of amazing stories and a Q and A. The Q and A at the end of each episode includes middle-schoolers from around the country that get their questions answered by teens that have been there before. Especially during these tough times due to COVID-19, taking care of our physical and mental health is important. The weekly advice in these podcasts encourages kids and teens to come of age in the world around us. In each episode the real life example is accompanied by music that transports the listener to that space. Listening to these stories can give anyone hope, courage and gratitude.

I got lots of messages from this podcast, although the one that stood out the most is to hold onto hope. Never give up; have courage!

I give the podcast series We Got You series 5 out 5 stars and recommend it for ages 9 to 16. The We Got You podcast is currently available on TRAX podcast page at https://www.trax.fm/we-got-you.

We Got You

By Apurva Sistla, KIDS FIRST! Film Critic, Age 12

We Got You is such an inspirational podcast. I love it. It shares stories from teens all over the country that have gone through hard times and makes them feel heard. This podcast also makes you feel lots of emotions and is almost as entertaining as a regular TV show.

For example, one of the episodes talks about Jaelin, an 18-year-old boy who lost both of his parents before the age of nine, and went through childhood being abused by his stepfather. His journey continues as Jaelin finds hope through his brothers and friends.

One of the best things about this podcast is the emotions. You can really feel all that Jaelin’s been through, from the death of his first parent to losing his second. His enlightening speech gives you hope that there is always a way out, no matter how much you have been through. Many movies, TV shows and podcasts use music to convey emotions. However, We Got You doesn’t need music to show what these kids are feeling; you only need to hear their stories. To be able to show emotion without music is pretty hard, so that really intrigued me.

In the words of Dumbledore, “Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, when only one remembers to turn on the light.” This describes the message of the podcast (even though it’s not said in that way), that you should never lose hope. There are no foul words or concepts, but there is some mention of aggressive behavior. An example is Jaelin speaking of his father both verbally and physically abusing him.

I give We Got You 4.5 out of 5 stars and recommend it for ages 10 to 18 and anyone who is going through a hard time. We Got You can be found on Trax at https://www.trax.fm/we-got-you.

PEMF THERAPY FOR TINNITUS: HOW IT CAN HELP YOU?

Pulsed Electromagnetic Field (PEMF) therapy is one of the most effective and wholesome healing techniques in the modern world. But is it really something ‘new’? No! The basic principles of this therapy date back to as far as 2000 B.C, where people used to trigger cellular healing by using magnetic stones. Contrary to other invasive therapies, the Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Therapy is non-invasive and utilized in healing a number of health conditions and upgrading overall well-being.

From pain to cancer and everything in between, PEMF has been proven effective in improving the symptoms of several medical conditions. But today, we’re going to be talking about its effectiveness in one particular condition: TINNITUS!

So let’s start from the basics:

 HOW DOES PEMF BASICALLY WORK?

Today, PEMF therapy involves using several portable pemf devices to treat health conditions. These devices work as a battery charger for damaged and unhealthy cells.

 What does that mean?

The thing is, our cells should have the minimum voltage (charge) necessary for them to work properly. This electric charge ranges from -20 to -25 millivolts. When our cells fail to build and maintain this voltage, they stop functioning properly, and the person falls sick. So how do we get our cells to obtain the required voltage for healthy functioning? We INDUCE voltage into them by means of PEMF therapy.

Pemf portable devices are pretty simple to use, and they conveniently induce a slight electromagnetic charge into the dysfunctional cells. As a result, the dysfunctional cells start getting revitalized, and the healing process kickstarts. The pemf therapy helps stop/slow down pain, curb inflammation, increase blood oxygenation, improve blood flow-all leading to faster tissue healing.

This was the basic mechanism of how healing occurs through pemf therapy using pemf portable devices. Let’s now move on to discussing tinnitus and how PEMF therapy benefits it.

WHAT IS TINNITUS: A BRIEF OVERVIEW

In simple terms, Tinnitus refers to the buzzing or ringing sound in the ears. This sound can last from a few seconds to minutes and is obviously irritating. The incidence of tinnitus in the present generation is comparatively greater than that of the older ones. Increased exposure to loud sounds, music devices, and electromagnetic radiations are just some of the reasons for growing tinnitus cases.

According to the NIDCD (National Institute of Deafness and Other Communication Disorders), about 10% of the US adult population has experienced tinnitus at some point in their lives. These statistics are from 2008, and the figures are expected to have grown significantly afterward.

 CAN PEMF THERAPY TREAT TINNITUS?

PEMF therapy is potentially beneficial for people experiencing tinnitus and hearing issues. It’s not actually a proper treatment but can potentially reduce the symptoms of tinnitus significantly.

Several studies have been conducted to test the effectiveness of this therapy in hearing issues. These studies have assessed the reduction in tinnitus symptoms in accordance with the original cause of the disease. Tinnitus may have several causes and may originate from either a problem inside the ear itself or from the brain’s auditory center. Therefore, many studies have also focused on the effects of pemf on tinnitus by stimulating the brain.

 A STUDY:

For example, a recent study performed in Germany tested the effects of pemf therapy + added auditory stimulation on the symptoms of tinnitus. A significant reduction in the loudness of tinnitus ringing was observed. Although this study doesn’t demonstrate the benefits of pemf alone for the treatment of tinnitus, it does show that pemf has benefits for the said purpose.

Similarly, a lot of other studies also show pemf therapy as a potential tool for treating tinnitus, and the use of portable pemf devices has added much more convenience to its utilization.

 FINAL WORD

According to research and studies, PEMF therapy is potentially beneficial for the betterment of tinnitus symptoms.

Cinnamon, April 15th Pet of the Week!

Sugar, spice, everything nice, with some chow chow mixed in! Cinnamon is a sweet senior, 10 years old, who came in as a stray. Her awesome all-black tongue is a clue to her heritage. She loves to be around people, and if they show her the proper respect that you would toward your elders, other dogs are OK as well. Because the shelter is closed to the public, adoption appointments are conducted through appointment, so call 562-570-PETS or email PetAdopt@longbeach.gov to meet Cinnamon. Ask for ID#A655121.

(This rescue encouraged by the usual suspects.)

RALPHS, FOOD 4 LESS DONATE MORE THAN 28 MILLION MEALS IN 2020 TO HUNGER RELIEF

Ralphs Grocery and Food 4 Less, divisions of The Kroger Co. (NYSE: KR), today share its latest milestones and results for Zero Hunger | Zero Waste, the company’s bold vision to end hunger in our communities and eliminate waste across the company by 2025.

Throughout their 2020 fiscal year, Ralphs and Food 4 Less donated nearly five million dollars and rescued 9.8 million pounds of food for hunger relief organizations in California. This translates to providing 28.2 million meals back to the communities in which they serve.

“Zero Hunger | Zero Waste is shaping the local discussion around how to end hunger and eliminate waste across the country,” said John Votava, director, corporate affairs, Ralphs. “Here in California, we’re proud of the work we’ve been about to do through our stores, customers, and associates to use our scale for good.”

Through leadership, engagement, and commitment, Ralphs and Food 4 Less continue to make progress in Kroger’s journey to achieve Zero Hunger | Zero Waste by 2025. Notable 2020 milestones include:

Zero Hunger

•       Ralphs and Food for Less donated 28.2 million meals to communities throughout Southern California and the Central Coast in 2020. These meals came from the food rescue program and financial and product donations to hunger relief organizations throughout the year.

•       Ralphs and Food 4 Less rescued 9.8 million pounds of safe nutritious food that could no longer be sold in its retail stores or shipped from its distribution centers and manufacturing plants, for Feeding America® food banks. This translates to 8.2 million meals that made their way back to the community.

Zero Waste

•       Ralphs and Food 4 Less diverted more than 85% of its total waste from landfills across Southern California and the Central Coast.

•       Each year, Ralphs and Food 4 Less are in the top five Kroger Divisions for achieving total waste diversion.

“We are driven by our ‘food first’ mission that no matter who you are, where you’re from, how you shop or what you like to eat, everyone deserves to have fresh, affordable, and easy-to-enjoy food, said Vanessa Rosales, director, corporate affairs, Food 4 Less. “We are dedicated to giving back to the communities we serve, and grateful for the progress we’ve made towards our 2025 goal.”

Kroger announced Zero Hunger | Zero Waste in September 2017. Since then, the grocery retailer has worked relentlessly to drive change and conversations inside and outside the company. Earlier this year, the company celebrated the donation of 1 billion meals donated in just three years.
