Cinnamon, April 15th Pet of the Week!

Sugar, spice, everything nice, with some chow chow mixed in! Cinnamon is a sweet senior, 10 years old, who came in as a stray. Her awesome all-black tongue is a clue to her heritage. She loves to be around people, and if they show her the proper respect that you would toward your elders, other dogs are OK as well. Because the shelter is closed to the public, adoption appointments are conducted through appointment, so call 562-570-PETS or email to meet Cinnamon. Ask for ID#A655121.

(This rescue encouraged by the usual suspects.)

More book suggestions for the kids this Spring!

Have a young child who loves or is learning how to count? Would you like to teach them about panting tress? TRILLIONS OF TREES by Kurt Cyrus: This fun premise invites young readers to plant trees in their own communities and secure the earth’s future. This is also another great one for Earth Day this month! I highly recommend for ages 3-7.

THE WISDOM OF TREES: How Trees Work Together to Form a Natural Kingdom by Lita Judge: With lush illustrations, poems, and accessible scientific information, The Wisdom of Trees by Lita Judge is a fascinating exploration of the hidden communities trees create to strengthen themselves and others. I really found this one interesting and recommend it for all ages. Find out more about both books here.

Self Disclosure: I received free copies of the above books to facilitate this post. I only feature books that I recommend. Cover images were also provided.

Book suggestions for Earth Day!

Earth Day is almost here and this is an important day for me! I have been involved in beach clean up for many years with my son and keeping the oceans clean is very important! THE POUT-POUT FISH CLEANS UP THE OCEAN by Deborah Diesen; illustrated by Dan Hanna: Mr. Fish and his friends learn to take care of the environment in this new jacketed hardcover addition to the New York Times–bestselling Pout-Pout Fish series. I am also a fan of the Pout-Pout Fish and highly recommend this book for children ages 2-5.

WE ARE WATER PROTECTORS by Carole Lindstrom; Illustrated by Michaela Goade: Winner of the 2021 Caldecott Medal and a New York Times Bestseller, this is a powerful picture book that weaves an urgent call to action with a timely story about protecting nature’s most sacred resource from harm and corruption. This one is another picture book that I recommend for ages 3-7.

SUNRISE SUMMER by Matthew Swanson; illustrated by Robbi Behr: With its lush depiction of the Alaskan wilderness and fascinating information on commercial salmon fishing woven into the artwork. I really enjoyed reading this story and loved the illustrations. I recommend this one for ages 4-7.

Happy Earth Day!
