5 Spots You’re Probably Forgetting to Clean

Cleaning your home may appear a fairly self- explanatory procedure. However, it is a process that will require you to first make a plan if you want to ensure all the places are attended. If you think you cannot tackle the entire home cleaning process by yourself, it is ideal you consider hiring any reliable cleaner in your area.

When cleaning your house, if you are in a rush or cleaning for last- minute guests, you can easily forget to attend to some places. Whether you hire cleaning services, or do it yourself, this write- up will discuss about some common spots people normally forget to attend when cleaning their homes.

Cleaning the Ceiling Fans

Unless you are living in a place that frequently experience warm climate or you are making use of your ceiling fan daily, you can easily overlook such place when cleaning your home. The blades of the ceiling can collect dirt and dust, most especially when they are not being used for long time periods.

When cleaning your home, getting rid of dust present in your ceiling fan blades is an ideal way of reducing the possibility of contracting dust- related allergies.

Cleaning experts from simplymaids Sydney says that one of the appropriate ways of cleaning a ceiling fan is sliding an old pillow case over every blade and then carefully removing it in order to avoid spilling dust.

Electronics

Small, hand- held electronic items or electronic devices in general, which you touch daily are often hotspots for germs. It is easy to forget wiping down your television remote, computer keyboard or cell phone.

Be informed that keeping these items clean can assist you prevent germs from spreading, most especially during flu and cold season.

Door Knobs, Light Switches or Small Appliances in General

Items you normally touch on a daily basis should be treated like the other highly- trafficked areas of your house. Ensure you keep germs away by properly cleaning door knobs and light switches.

When you are doing a clean sweep, do not forget to also carefully clean small appliances such as the microwave, coffee maker as well as garbage disposal.

Cleaning Supplies

You probably use cleaning supplies when scrubbing different spots of your house. Some cleaning supplies that we normally forget to clean include cleaning cloths, sponges, toilet brush, feather duster, vacuum cleaner among other things.

Be assured that once you’ve cleaned all the cleaning supplies and sanitized them, they will definitely get your house much cleaner.

Tooth Brush Holder

One of the places that can turn out to be a breeding ground for the germs is the toothbrush holder. When you are cleaning your bathroom, make sure you rinse out properly and wipe down your soap dish and toothbrush holder(s).

Bottom Line

Be informed that a thorough cleanup process will make sure that you and your family members do not contract germ related disorders. It is also a process that will make your house not only attractive and appealing to you and your family members but also to the guests who will come visiting you.

Skyscraper – Entertaining, towering pace and consistent acting led by Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson

FBI Hostage Rescue Team leader and U.S. war veteran Will Sawyer now assesses security for skyscrapers. On assignment in Hong Kong he finds the tallest, safest building in the world suddenly ablaze, and he’s been framed for it. A wanted man on the run, Will must find those responsible, clear his name and somehow rescue his family who are trapped inside the building…above the fire line. KIDS FIRST! Film Critic Arjun N. comments, “A towering pace and consistent acting provide for a memorable summer detour. This is sure to be a worthwhile watch for any action movie fans.” See his full review below.

Skyscraper

By Arjun Nair, KIDS FIRST! Film Critic, age 16

Skyscraper is an entertaining, yet derivative homage to 80s action films. A towering pace and consistent acting provide for a memorable summer detour. This is sure to be a worthwhile watch for any action movie fans.

The movie follows former hostage negotiator Will (Dwayne Johnson), who now accesses building security after a tragic misfire left him as an amputee. While analyzing the world’s tallest and safest building, terrorists led by Kores (Roland Møller) mysteriously access building schematics to take control. However, things reach an all-time low for Will once Kores takes Will’s family hostage and frames him for the infiltration. With everything left to lose, Will must push past his setbacks in order to sort out this mess and save his family.

Dwayne Johnson, as Will, is my favorite character due to his ever-present charisma and even relate-ability with his physical struggles. His love and determination for his family also make the movie all the more intense. Neve Campbell, as Sarah, is just as believable with her determination to the family and has more nuances than just resorting to a damsel in distress. Chin Han, as Zhao, brings a mysterious layer to his involvement with the skyscraper as his business is not what it seems. Roland Møller, as Kores, gives Dwayne Johnson a run for his money in terms of strength and is a formidable yet clichéd threat for him. However, his vibrant expressions are enough to lighten his clichéd dialogue. Noah Cottrell and McKenna Roberts, as Henry and Georgia, complete the pack as the cute twins of Will and Sarah, whose combined braveness helps forward the family dynamic. However, Henry’s asthma seems a little too situational at times.

Rawson Marshall Thurber’s direction brings out a brisk pace with fresh new takes at fisticuffs and shootouts alike many 80s action movies. However, a few of the scenes lack in originality, feeling like a borderline copy of other action films. My favorite scene is the opening hostage negotiation, as it sets a thrilling and unexpected array of events, even if it is not set in the main skyscraper centerpiece. The other flaw is that it could have used more nuances in the scenarios as opposed to having such a predictable plot with unsurprising twists. At times, it feels more like a parody than a movie, with unintentionally funny scenes. However, the fact that it never takes itself too seriously adds to its quality and creates pure escapism.

The movie’s message is to never judge a man by his impediments, as pure willpower can defy many obstacles. I give this film 3.5 out of 5 stars and recommend it for ages 10 to 18 because of its intense action and language. The movie releases in theaters July 13, 2018, so check it out.

Best Coast Announces First Children’s Album: Best Kids

Los Angeles, CA’s Best Coast − comprised of singer/guitarist Bethany Cosentino and guitarist Bobb Bruno − released their first-ever children’s record, entitled Best Kids, as an Amazon Original on June 22, 2018. A mix of original songs, covers by the likes of Lesley Gore and Franki Valli and the Four Seasons, and time-worn favorites like “If You’re Happy And You Know It” (feat. special guest Lili Hayes) and “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star,” Best Kids takes all of the band’s signature sounds − fuzzy guitars, sun-kissed melodies, and sky-high harmonies − and makes them kid-sized for the whole family. The album’s first song, “Cats and Dogs,” a song about universal love, may be heard at www.amazon.com/bestcoast.

Says frontwoman Cosentino, “There is an innocence to my songwriting that fits perfectly with writing songs for kids, so when the idea was presented to me to do an original children’s album for Amazon Music, I of course said yes! I wanted to make a kid’s album not just for kids but also for the parents with cool music taste that might be tired of listening to the same songs off the Frozen soundtrack 200 times in a row.  Bobb and I wanted to make something with an edge while staying in a kid-friendly lane. We made the record with Lewis Pesacov, our producer for Crazy For You, who is also now the father of a 1-year-old daughter. The process of making this record was fun, creative, and a way for us to express ourselves musically without taking it all so ‘seriously.’”

In addition to songs old and new, the band re-recorded their song “When I’m With You” — from their acclaimed debut Crazy For You — as a child-friendly version for Best Kids.  “A few weeks prior to starting the album, we played that song at an event for the LA non-profit GIRLSCHOOL, a music festival whose mission is to celebrate, connect, and lift women-identified artists, leaders, and voices.  The girls who sang with us at the festival also came to the studio to record that song with us, which gave it a whole new direction,” Cosentino explains.

She continues, “The world is pretty wild these days and we just hope this record and these songs will bring joy and a smile to some faces that might need joy and smiles, no matter how old they are.”

Hundreds of exclusive songs and numerous albums have been released asAmazon Originals, featuring both emerging and established artists spanning diverse genres including pop, indie, country, Americana, roots, blues, alt-rock, family and more.

Best Kids will be available to stream and purchase exclusively on Amazon Music starting June 22, and is now available for digital and physical pre-order HERE.

Looking for a place to visit this Summer? San Pedro is the place to take the Family!

It’s Summer and time to go out and have fun with the family! One of my local favorite places to visit is San Pedro.

The coastal town, with a population of almost 81,000, and former WW II home to the U.S Navy fleet will gain a $400 million dollar 21st-century waterfront complete with a hotel. Now is the key time to understand the harbor city’s transitioning charm and what drew writers Charles Bukowski and Louis L’Amour to the area to live.

During the mid-20th century, San Pedro drew more than a million visitors annually. Today, with the Port of Los Angeles, the largest in North America (“America’s Port”) and Worldship Cruise Center, the 12.5-mile area has almost three million teeming its streets. Over the last couple of years, new attractions have paved the way, starting with the U.S.S. Iowa which, in 2012 sailed into the LA from San Francisco, to become a maritime museum.

There are lots of things to do, things to see and they have some of the best restaurants!  You could easily spend the whole day there doing so many different things but here are a few of my favorites!

Have you been to the Pacific Battleship Center? The Battleship IOWA is a must-visit! I love the history of this amazing place and I love that they have an App especially for the kids! The Battleship IOWA Interactive Mobile Tour allows visitors a first-hand experience to live and serve on this historic ship. On my visit, I downloaded the App and found that this will be something great for the younger kids. The Tours is my favorite part of the App but it also has Maps, Augmented Reality which is really cool to check out when you are visiting the Battleship IOWA. There’s even a cute dog mascot named Victory (Vicky) that children can try to spot on the ship. There’s a matching game with a prize at the end of the tour in the gift shop so check it out!

U.S.S. Iowa: In the coming year, will put together a new virtual reality flight experience taking off from the ship and then landing wherever you want to go…maybe Paris? How about London? Singapore? And you don’t even have to leave the ship. Now, how cool does that sound?! https://www.pacificbattleship.com/

About Battleship IOWA

Entering service more than 70 years ago, U.S.S. IOWA deployed to the South Pacific in the uncertain early years of World War II.  The iconic battleship served with distinction in that war, and later during the Korean War.  In the 1990s, U.S.S. IOWA concluded her active duty as the Berlin Wall crumbled.  Battleship IOWA now serves as a historic naval ship museum.  Forged in war, guardian of the peace, the proud ship keeps watch as the proud sentinel of the LA Waterfront. IOWA’s teak decks and steel bulkheads echo the words and deeds of history: three U.S. Presidents, six of the nine American five-star military leaders, countless foreign dignitaries, and most importantly thousands of her own heroic IOWA sailors.  Visitors are awed by IOWA’s proud legacy as one of the fastest and most powerful ships ever to sail the world’s oceans.  Battleship IOWA is open to the public daily except Thanksgiving and Christmas. Our hours are 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. with our last ticket sale. Please visit our website additional information on special events, group tours educational programs and Naval retirement flag service.

Another place you just have to visit is the Cabrillo Aquarium, one of Frank Gehry’s early commissioned architectural buildings and a conservation center. http://www.cabrillomarineaquarium.org/

With its spectacular natural setting adjacent to Cabrillo Beach Coastal Park and the Port of Los Angeles, Cabrillo Marine Aquarium is uniquely suited to its leadership role in marine science education, aquaculture research and community recreation. The historic Frank Gehry-designed aquarium displays the largest collection of Southern California marine life in the world. Since 1935, CMA has provided visitors with both a natural and interactive approach to learning about the marine environment of Southern California. I love seeing all the sea creatures at this Aquarium! I also love the Tide pools at Cabrillo Beach!

Now, after visiting these truly amazing places you have to check out one of the many fabulous restaurants for lunch or dinner! One of my favorites is San Pedro Fish Market: LA’s Most Instagrammed Restaurant: https://www.sanpedrofish.com/
I was amazed at how big this place is and how clean! There is a sit-down place that I really recommend and the outside eating area is really big!

I love all the seafood choices they offer and I had the best Shrimp enchiladas ever! But, you really have so many choices! You can pick your own choice of fish at the Fish Counter and tell them how you would like it and add toppings or you can sit down and enjoy a meal from their menu which like I mentioned…they have the best shrimp enchiladas! The Salmon plate is pretty good too! If you love seafood, this place is a must-visit!

And, if you have a chance to meet the owner, Tommy Amalfitano, he has quite the sense of humor!
If you have even more time to spend in San Pedro, here are a few other places worth checking out!
