Sanderson, you wear it well! Our boy wears doggie clothing as if it were a second skin. And he’s mostly skin! Sanderson, 3 years old, is unique in that he’s covered with a thin, brown fuzz. This confounded the staff and volunteers when he was picked up after being abandoned with three other dogs in a parking lot. After three months of treatment and observation, everyone concluded that Sanderson was a mix of mastiff and Xoloitzcuintle, a hairless dog from Mexico whose breed dates back to the Aztecs. Despite the noble lineage, Sanderson is constantly silly, waggy and happy. He plays joyfully in the play yard with his favorite toy, a stuffed lamb. “In ancient Mexico, the Xolo was considered sacred, and we feel all dogs deserve to be valued, respected and loved,” reads Sanderson’s bio on the shelter’s adoption page. Sanderson’s been at the shelter since November last year, and he deserves his own place where he can be worshipped. Long Beach Animal Care Services is over capacity with dogs, so speed the process to adopt or foster Sanderson or any of our other pets by emailing PetAdopt@longbeach.gov or petfoster@longbeach.gov. Silverado, June 27 Pet of the Week
Long Beach Animal Care Services (LBACS) has geared up its Foster the 4th program for 2025. The program allows the public to foster animals, big dogs in particular, to make room for all the pets who run in terror from fireworks blasts and wind up in the shelter, if they’re lucky enough not to get killed by a vehicle. LBACS volunteers have recommended dogs who’d make great foster pets, and Silverado is a big favorite among the big dogs! They describe him as awesome, sweet, mellow and fun — a guy who loves to exercise and who’ll motivate you to do the same! He’s good on leash, rides well in the car and is good at events with lots of people and other dogs. Please note: Experience with huskies or a solid understanding of what they require is highly encouraged. Join Foster the 4th by emailing PetFoster@longbeach.gov. If you just plain want to adopt, great — email PetAdopt@longbeach.gov to schedule an appointment. Speed the process to adopt Silverado or any of our other pets by emailing or petfoster@longbeach.gov. You can also call (562) 570-4925. Best yet, meet all the pets Wednesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 7700 E. Spring St. at the entrance to El Dorado Park (no parking fee for shelter visitors). Ask for ID#A720420.
Gabi, June 20 Pet of the Week
Gabi has been living in a shelter kennel far too long. The girl is waiting for you to be the key to unlocking her freedom and happiness. Gabi is only about3 years old, but examination showed that she’d birthed multiple litters, which probably included the young male she came in with. The two were found abandoned and tied up together in front of a public storage facility back in September. Gabi’s son has been adopted, but she’s still waiting for her perfect fit. She’s a beautiful buff color and has eyes that match her coat. She appears to be housebroken and walks well on a leash. She knows her sit and shake commands, and if you’ve got a yummy treat, she might raise both front paws in the air! Gabi will do best in a home without cats. She has a great little prance when she’s happy, and the volunteers long to see her prance her way into a loving, forever home. Come lock eyes and souls with Gabi, and she will quickly offer the key to your heart! The Long Beach Animal Care Services is over capacity with dogs, so speed the process to adopt or foster Gabi or any of our other pets by emailing PetAdopt@longbeach.gov or petfoster@longbeach.gov. You can also call (562) 570-4925. Our shelter hours are Wednesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 7700 E. Spring St. at the entrance to El Dorado Park (no parking fee for shelter visitors. Ask for ID for ID#A728906 for Gabi.
Fudge, June 13 Pet of the Week
Every animal deserves love and comfort no matter what shape they’re in. Fudge, 15 years old,is in need of all that if you’re willing and able to foster or adopt a senior cat with medical needs. Fudge is a 100% lap kitty and will stay on your lap until you move her off. She’s guaranteed to enhance your reading and not get in the way of the computer monitor. Other than that, give her a sunny spot near a window and a comfy bed for her aged bones. Fudge looks a little rough thanks to her previous live before Long Beach Animal Care Services took her in. She’s nearly toothless and is on kidney care food and pain meds for arthritis, but so far, she needs no further care except for her lovely heart and soul. No precious animal should spend their final days in a shelter, so if you can offer Fudge hospice, email PetAdopt@longbeach.gov to speed the process, or call (562) 570-7387. Better yet, meet them in person at Long Beach Animal Care Services, 7700 E. Spring St., Long Beach, at entrance to El Dorado Park (no parking fee for shelter visitors). Visiting hours are Wednesday–Friday, 10 a.m.–5:30 p.m., and Saturday–Sunday, 10 a.m.–4 p.m. Thanks to cat volunteer Susan for championing Fudge and writing her story.
Radio, May 30th Pet of the Week
Radio, with his marbled nose, has been at Long Beach Animal Care Services for just over a year, and he’s only 3! He was lucky to get a shelter break with a short-term foster, who shared that his favorite things were spending time with people and other dogs, belly rubs, playing fetch and nap time. He also got separation anxiety, so he thrives on company. Radio’s foster family enjoyed his company so much that they extended his foster period from one month to two! But for their two cats, whom they had to keep separate, they’d have kept Radio! Radio would flourish with a patient, dog-savvy owner who could provide structure and guidance with leash manners and basic life skills. Volunteers feel he could make a great second dog for an active owner. See how long you want to foster Radio! Maybe forever? Long Beach Animal Care Services is over capacity with dogs, so speed the process to adopt or foster Radio or any of our other pets by emailing PetAdopt@longbeach.gov or petfoster@longbeach.gov. Ask for ID#A721516).
Peanut, May 16th Pet of the Week
“Look, Ma! Look, Pa! I’ve picked up all my toys! Now, c’n I have some string cheese? Huh? Huh? Please?” Peanut is a real nut for affection and attention. As you can see, he enjoys playing and in fact was found last year near the soccer field at one of the local high schools. No owner claimed him as either a team member or their dog, so he came to Long Beach Animal Care Services. With his friends, the volunteers, Peanut walks jauntily on leash, rolls in the grass and smiles big, and of course, cleans up his toys. He’s only 2 years old and deserves a family that can appreciate a big, handsome doggie with a sense of humor and responsibility. He also deserves string cheese when he’s good, which is always. Speed the process to adopt or foster Peanut or any of our other pets by emailing PetAdopt@longbeach.gov or petfoster@longbeach.gov. You can also call (562) 570-4925. Our shelter hours are Wednesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 7700 E. Spring St. at the entrance to El Dorado Park (no parking fee for shelter visitors). Ask for ID#A728674.
Looking for a Custom Pet Portrait?
Looking for a gift for a pet lover? A custom pet portrait would be a hit with any pet lover! It’s a unique and personalized prize that pet lovers can’t resist. I love the variety of choices they have on their website! I opted for a Magazine Cover print but they also have Movie Posters, Custome Socks, and Custom Pet Portraits. I love that they are available in three sizes: 8×10 inch, 12×16 inch and 16×20 inch.
There are so many choices that I am sure you will find one that you love!
I had the opportunity to receive a complimentary print to review and I am a big music fan so I opted for a music magazine cover.
I just love the Rolling Bone Magazine Cover I received. (see photo above) I loved how easy it is to just upload the photo and it is also available in digital and print. It is now one of my very favorite photos of my dog, Bink.
How It Started…(from the founder Tarn Mount )
I started out creating fun photoshopped portraits of my nieces and nephews and then, of course, they wanted the same done with their dog. I got so much pawsome feedback, I decided to set up Lord Of The Pets to offer a range of unique designs to customers world-wide! Now I have trained up a small team of dedicated Photoshop artists to ensure our high quality remains the best in the field.
Actually let me back-up a little bit – I originally launched the site Pawtraits.art in 2019 which I later rebranded to EpicPawtraits.com since I believed a .com domain is better than the .art domain. Then one night “Lord Of The Pets” came to me as a playful yet Noblest of titles and the rest is history.
So, whether your pet is big or small, furred or feathered, Lord Of The Pets has you covered. We incorporate your pet into the design of your choice and apply our specially designed filters to create a pet portrait that looks like it was painted by Michaelangelo himself!
There is a quality guarantee and the customer service is amazing!

Wallace, March 21st Pet of the Week
Wallace is all dressed up for Take Your Dog to Work Day! He’d be a great one to show off to your colleagues. He loves to play ball and loves stuffies even more, and everyone at work will need to be ready to be smothered in wet doggy kisses! What—you work from home? Even better—Wallace will be a wonderful snuggle buddy as you crouch over your keyboard, and he’s great on a leash, so when you’re ready to walk and stretch, he’ll keep you company. Wallace is a year-old Staffie mix and is showing signs of kennel stress, so he needs to go home with a loving human who’ll work and play with him forever. Long Beach Animal Care Services is over capacity with dogs, so speed the process to adopt or foster Wallace or any of our other pets by emailing PetAdopt@longbeach.gov or petfoster@longbeach.gov. You can also call (562) 570-4925. Our shelter hours are Wednesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 7700 E.
