Radio, May 30th Pet of the Week

Awwwwwww!

Radio, with his marbled nose, has been at Long Beach Animal Care Services for just over a year, and he’s only 3! He was lucky to get a shelter break with a short-term foster, who shared that his favorite things were spending time with people and other dogs, belly rubs, playing fetch and nap time. He also got separation anxiety, so he thrives on company. Radio’s foster family enjoyed his company so much that they extended his foster period from one month to two! But for their two cats, whom they had to keep separate, they’d have kept Radio! Radio would flourish with a patient, dog-savvy owner who could provide structure and guidance with leash manners and basic life skills. Volunteers feel he could make a great second dog for an active owner. See how long you want to foster Radio! Maybe forever? Long Beach Animal Care Services is over capacity with dogs, so speed the process to adopt or foster Radio or any of our other pets by emailing PetAdopt@longbeach.gov or petfoster@longbeach.gov. You can also call (562) 570-4925. Our shelter hours are Wednesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 7700 E. Spring St. at the entrance to El Dorado Park (no parking fee for shelter visitors. Ask for ID#A721516).

Peanut, May 16th Pet of the Week

AWWWWWWW!

“Look, Ma! Look, Pa! I’ve picked up all my toys! Now, c’n I have some string cheese? Huh? Huh? Please?” Peanut is a real nut for affection and attention. As you can see, he enjoys playing and in fact was found last year near the soccer field at one of the local high schools. No owner claimed him as either a team member or their dog, so he came to Long Beach Animal Care Services. With his friends, the volunteers, Peanut walks jauntily on leash, rolls in the grass and smiles big, and of course, cleans up his toys. He’s only 2 years old and deserves a family that can appreciate a big, handsome doggie with a sense of humor and responsibility. He also deserves string cheese when he’s good, which is always. Speed the process to adopt or foster Peanut or any of our other pets by emailing PetAdopt@longbeach.gov or petfoster@longbeach.gov. You can also call (562) 570-4925. Our shelter hours are Wednesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 7700 E. Spring St. at the entrance to El Dorado Park (no parking fee for shelter visitors). Ask for ID#A728674.

Looking for a Custom Pet Portrait?

Lord of the Pets has the best options!

Looking for a gift for a pet lover? A custom pet portrait would be a hit with any pet lover! It’s a unique and personalized prize that pet lovers can’t resist. I love the variety of choices they have on their website! I opted for a Magazine Cover print but they also have Movie Posters, Custome Socks, and Custom Pet Portraits. I love that they are available in three sizes: 8×10 inch, 12×16 inch and 16×20 inch.

There are so many choices that I am sure you will find one that you love!

I had the opportunity to receive a complimentary print to review and I am a big music fan so I opted for a music magazine cover.

I just love the Rolling Bone Magazine Cover I received. (see photo above) I loved how easy it is to just upload the photo and it is also available in digital and print. It is now one of my very favorite photos of my dog, Bink.

This one is super cute if you are a Barbie movie fan! Photo courtesy of Lord of the Pets.

How It Started…(from the founder Tarn Mount )

I started out creating fun photoshopped portraits of my nieces and nephews and then, of course, they wanted the same done with their dog. I got so much pawsome feedback, I decided to set up Lord Of The Pets to offer a range of unique designs to customers world-wide! Now I have trained up a small team of dedicated Photoshop artists to ensure our high quality remains the best in the field.

Actually let me back-up a little bit – I originally launched the site Pawtraits.art in 2019 which I later rebranded to EpicPawtraits.com since I believed a .com domain is better than the .art domain. Then one night “Lord Of The Pets” came to me as a playful yet Noblest of titles and the rest is history.

So, whether your pet is big or small, furred or feathered, Lord Of The Pets has you covered. We incorporate your pet into the design of your choice and apply our specially designed filters to create a pet portrait that looks like it was painted by Michaelangelo himself!

There is a quality guarantee and the customer service is amazing!

Wallace, March 21st Pet of the Week

Awwwwwwww!

Wallace is all dressed up for Take Your Dog to Work Day! He’d be a great one to show off to your colleagues. He loves to play ball and loves stuffies even more, and everyone at work will need to be ready to be smothered in wet doggy kisses! What—you work from home? Even better—Wallace will be a wonderful snuggle buddy as you crouch over your keyboard, and he’s great on a leash, so when you’re ready to walk and stretch, he’ll keep you company. Wallace is a year-old Staffie mix and is showing signs of kennel stress, so he needs to go home with a loving human who’ll work and play with him forever. Long Beach Animal Care Services is over capacity with dogs, so speed the process to adopt or foster Wallace or any of our other pets by emailing PetAdopt@longbeach.gov or petfoster@longbeach.gov. Ask for ID#A732532.

Drew, March 14th Pet of the Week

AWWWWWW!

April showers may bring May flowers, but warming temperatures bring cloudbursts of kittens to the streets, alleys, backyards and everywhere an unfixed momcat can give birth. Many die out there. The ones lucky enough to be rescued by shelters for adoption are awfully cute, but adult cats who have been brought to the shelter to wait for a good home get overlooked. Drew drew the short straw—he was surrendered by his old friend who could no longer afford to keep him. Drew is 12 years old, beautiful and sleek, with a little white star on his chest. He’s perfect for someone who wants a couch-potato companion to binge-watch Netflix with. To adopt or foster Drew, email PetAdopt@longbeach.gov to speed the process, or call (562) 570-7387. Ask for ID#A490633.

(This rescue encouraged by the usual suspects.)

Mayfield, March 7th Pet of the Week

AWWWWW!

“Well, here’s looking at you!” Mayfield would say if he could talk. He doesn’t have to, though, because one of the first things you notice about Mayfield are his eyes — one is marble blue and the other is latte brown. He also has a wintry black-and-white husky coat that the volunteers love to keep brushed and pettable. And does Mayfield love brushing and petting! He wasn’t always like that — he was shy at first, but the volunteers saw the dog he is and brought him out. He’d love to walk on a leash with a special human and cast those beautiful eyes everywhere! Speed the process to adopt Mayfield or any of our other pets by emailing PetAdopt@longbeach.gov or petfoster@longbeach.gov. Ask for ID#A719434

Bandit, Feb. 28th Pet of the Week

Wanna make out like a bandit, as a shelter staff member quipped? Then snap up this playful, gentle and polite fellow, aptly named Bandit!Bandit is a 4-year-old Siberian husky who walks beautifully on a leash and afterward spends his time snuggling with people. Bandit would do well as both a family pack member or a solo sweetheart. Meet Bandit, and get ready to get your heart stolen! Speed the process to adopt or foster Bandit or any of our other pets by emailing PetAdopt@longbeach.gov or petfoster@longbeach.gov. Ask for ID#A724562.

Ginger, Feb. 21st Pet of the Week

Awwwwwwwww!

Shelters have seen so many German shepherds come through their doors, overbred, abandoned by owners, possibly never finding humans worthy enough to appreciate their intelligence, loyalty and beauty. Ginger, 3 years old, is one of these wonderful dogs. She’s been at the shelter since October and has celebrated all the autumn and winter holidays with the volunteers. She loves the human and doggie friends she’s made, but so deserves a warm, soft place to sleep, long walks, and a human who will love her as much as the volunteers do and will be there for her forever. Two seasons is too long for a loving dog to spend in a kennel. Speed the process to adopt Ginger or any of our other pets by emailing PetAdopt@longbeach.gov or petfoster@longbeach.gov. Ask for ID#A731052.
