Puff, Aug. 13th Pet of the Week!

See Puff run! See Puff play! With her bright-white coat, it’s easy to spot Puff (heh heh!). Puff is a happy-go-lucky 2-year-old pit bull mix—a real cutie patootie with a lot of energy and a great love of the outdoors. She’s in need of a human who can spend time to train her to be the companion she’s meant to be. Because the shelter is closed to the public, adoption appointments are conducted through appointment, so call 562-570-PETS or email AnimalRescue@longbeach.gov to meet Puff. Ask for  ID#A646647.

Why it is Better to Buy Pet Items at a Local Pet Boutique

Excitement is always associated with the arrival of a new member of any household. When a family member brings home a brand-new puppy, children shriek with excitement, teenagers get eager to be the puppy’s handlers, and even adults get overly excited by buying dog food in bulk. However, the excitement usually dies down as soon as the family encounters the difficult decision to purchase the necessary equipment, treats, and other stuff needed to properly care for the puppy. Should you purchase at the pet store section of the nearest department store or buy your pet needs at a local Pet Boutique? Here are the reasons why you should choose to shop at an independent pet boutique near you.

Committed to Your Pet’s Well-Being

Independent pet boutiques are committed to giving your fur babies the necessary diet and will not cut corners to produce human-grade pet food. A local boutique, for example, can customise the meal plan for your pets by designing pet food according to the nutritional requirements and flavour preferences of your new puppy.

Pet boutiques require their staff to get regular training on the care and management of pets. The staff is knowledgeable about pet diet and nutrition. Most, if not all, pet boutiques have a licensed veterinarian as one of their staff or have a direct line with one for any pet concerns.

Committed to You

A local Pet Boutique will give its customers high value and warm and personal attention every time you shop for your pet’s requirements. When you shop at a pet boutique, you do not just put pet items in a cart and check them out at a counter; instead, staff will be there to ask you for your pet’s requirements and assist you in getting the correct item that you are looking for. If an item is out of stock, a pet boutique will notify you immediately when the stock is available. The boutique pet store staff will remember names (yours and your pet’s) and recall the specific diets that your pets require.

Committed to Quality

You may find that pet food, toys, and other items sold at pet boutiques are priced at a premium. The reason is that pet boutiques only choose the highest quality of products to sell. Large chain pet stores or department stores may showcase products with different price ranges but may not assure you of each product’s quality. Local and independent pet boutiques, on the other hand, curate only premium products.

You may think of saving money by purchasing pet food from large chain pet stores or department stores. However, you may be buying pet food that has been commercially manufactured and packed, which means that these foods may contain preservatives. On the other hand, a local pet boutique may notify you when their next batch of customised pet food will be made to schedule your order.

Committed to Local Communities

When you purchase from a local or independent pet boutique, you are helping your community as well. A larger percentage of the money you spend in a local pet boutique will go to community taxes and payroll for staff that are most likely to be the members of the community. A local pet boutique will also be more involved in fundraising events that will help pet adoptions and pet rescues within your community.

Shopping at a local or independent pet boutique will give you premium products, along with a personalized experience for both you and your pet.

Chocolate, Aug. 6th Pet of the Week!

Chocolate didn’t always look this yummy. The 4-year-old male seal-point Siamese beauty came to our shelter in horrible shape. The staff believe he was hit by a car. Our incredible medical team, staff and volunteers immediately jumped in to care for this special kitty and in return, they have never experienced so much love and appreciation from one animal! Chocolate is a special-needs cat: he’s FIV-positive, which means he has an immunodeficiency virus, and he has a slight skin condition. He’ll need extra-special attention, and with it, he’ll have every chance of living a long life, during which time you’ll experience all that sweet-Chocolate love! Because the shelter is closed to the public, adoption appointments are conducted through email, so contact AnimalRescue@longbeach.gov to meet and savor Chocolate. Ask for ID#A644578.

Sheba, July 30th Pet of the Week!

The Queen of Sheba, according to the legend, bore a treasure trove of gifts for the one wise enough to answer her questions. Our Sheba, a majestic 3-year-old brown tabby, is equally gifted and will bestow hers on the person wise enough to take her home forever. Sheba is aptly named, as she is truly a queen—a gentle, kind and loving one. She possesses all the traits you’d want in royalty and deserves only the best. Because the shelter is closed to the public, adoption appointments are conducted through email, so contact AnimalRescue@longbeach.gov to meet Sheba. Ask for ID#A644509.

Donatello, July 23rd Pet of the Week!

If you were a kid near the turn of the last century, you’d surely think of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles when you heard “Donatello.” But the original Donatello, as many of you likely know, was a Renaissance Italian sculptor of immense talent, and this Donatello reminds shelter staff of the master’s beautiful creations. Donatello’s a 5-month-old black-and-white tuxie, as pretty and perfect as any of his namesake’s creations. He’s all attitude in the best way possible—he loves company, hanging on your shoulder, and expressing himself vocally. Come get this original! Because the shelter is closed to the public, adoption appointments are conducted through email, so contact AnimalRescue@longbeach.gov to meet them. Please—they so need a forever home together. Ask for ID#A645824.

Cedar, July 16th Pet of the Week!

Cedar is a very special 2-year-old Siberian husky, with lovely blue eyes and, sadly, a broken arm that needs tending to. The injury hasn’t stopped Cedar from being a super-playful pooch. He deserves a human and a home that can provide the care and love he requires. Because the shelter is closed to the public, adoption appointments are conducted through appointment, so call 562-570-PETS or email AnimalRescue@longbeach.gov to meet Lucille Nolley. Stella and Julius, July 9th Pets of the Week!

AWWWWWW!

We have two cats for you today: Julius, a neutered 7-year-old orange tabby, and Stella, a 4-year-old female tuxie! We’re doubling up on the cats because Mother Nature is doubling down on kitten birth to unfixed cats during kitten season, when most cats are born. Our shelter is getting crow-rowr-ded and will continue to fill from midsummer to autumn. We’d love it if you’d consider either of these cats or the others to make some space and, of course, to welcome a lovely family member. Julius is a gentle giant who came to us when his owner passed away. One can tell that he was not only loved but also gave love in return. Those chubby cheeks will melt your heart! Stella is sensual and stunning in looks and tender and warmhearted in demeanor. We can’t get enough of her infectious spirit and affectionate nature. She’s the standard for all cats! The shelter’s closed to the public, so call 562-570-PETS or email AnimalRescue@longbeach.gov to adopt. Ask for ID#A644205 for Julius and ID#A644371 for Stella.
