Ophelia, April 6 Pet of the Week

Ophelia, age 5, won’t be overshadowed by anyone or anything. Sadly, though, she’s been lost in the shadows for the better part of a year in our shelter, which is over its capacity for dogs. As you can see, Ophelia is playful and super-friendly to everyone. She doesn’t seem to have a problem with other dogs, either. Ophelia’s favorite things are love and treats and love. Her only needs are a loving human and out. Speed up the adoption process by emailing PetAdopt@longbeach.gov or petfoster@longbeach.gov. You can also call (562) 570-4925. Even better, stop by the shelter every Wednesday through Sunday from 11 a.m.–3 p.m. Our shelter is located at 7700 E. Spring St. Ask for ID#680169 to meet Ophelia. We’re over capacity, and everyone needs homes!

The Popular MyGears Collection From Edx Education Is Now Being Offered Online At Target and Just In Time For Easter!

The well-loved and award-winning children’s brand, Edx Education has launched its popular MyGears toy online at Target. Their MyGears collection launched in late 2022 and has been a real hit ever since by both children and parents. The range has been STEAM accredited by The Toy Association and even recognized as a trending range. Now their new Transport Set toy is available online at Target. Their Transport Set is great to inspire early STEAM in children 3 years and older. This 118-piece set features instructions for 8 dynamic vehicle and machine models. Follow their activity guide or experiment with your own engineering creations!

This is so much fun!

ZipLinx Hi-Fly Set (Blip Toys): This high-flying, chain-reaction activity set delivers the eye-popping payoff of the classic domino run— but ZipLinx launch pieces up to 3 feet in the air for the finale! The magic of the system is not only the ease of set-up but there’s also no accidental starts. That means your design literally won’t “pop” until you insert the special Linx Launcher Key! Available now on Amazon. (MSRP $19.99; Ages 6+)

Fun game to play!

Blackbeard’s Treasure Hunt (Vango Toys): Avast me hearties! This newest kid’s action game from Vango has all the pirate-loving tropes for young swashbucklers! Follow the treasure map, unlock a treasure chest, and collect the booty of gold doubloons that spill out of the Chest! Takes both luck. . . and strategy.  Yo ho ho… this sounds like a lot of fun!!! Available at Target (MSRP: $19.99; Ages 4+)

I just love this one!

Cake-N-Bake Challenge (Hey Buddy Hey Pal): A totally different kind of action-packed family game with a delicious, rainbow-layer, foam cake as the center of attention! Object of the game is to, well, just be the fastest baker! Players race to stack their cake slices based on the order on a game card. The first to correctly stack their cake wins a candle, and whoever collects six candles wins and gets to wear the included chef’s hat. ALSO great for preschoolers learning their colors – plus no reading required!! Available on Amazon (MSRP: $27.99; Ages 4+) I teach a preschool class and I especially like that this is a game they will enjoy while they also learn colors!

Stuffed animals are great comfort items for people of all ages with autism. Stuffed animals often provide a sense of security and sensory regulation, which helps many autistic adults and kids feel grounded in their bodies. Big Nibble Bunny is huggable, luggable and simply adorable. Nibble’s long lop ears are buttery soft and perfect for soothing away worries. Since 1986 Bunnies by the Bay has designed gifts with love and to be loved, for many years to come. I am in love with this bunny! It is just adorable and it is so soft!

New Children’s Book SWEETER than Chocolate!

Award-winning literacy company, Mrs Wordsmith has something sp-egg-tacular in its Easter basket this year: the launch of their new Children’s book, The Book of BIG Feelings!

Social Emotional Learning has never been so simple and so gentle, with the help of The Book of Big Feelings. A fun, approachable illustrated dictionary packed with words that have been thoughtfully selected by some of the world’s leading literacy experts.

Giving children 4-8 years old the vocabulary they need to express themselves, the highly-educational and highly-hilarious dictionary builds on social and emotional learning with the help of the silly illustrations that Mrs Wordsmith is known for. With characters modeling how each feeling looks and acting out short scenarios inspired by the word, the Book of BIG Feelings helps children develop empathy and resilience, encourage inclusivity, and form positive relationships. The Book of BIG Feelings is available now at Amazonmrswordsmith.comBarnes & Nobleindigo.ca for $24.99 USD and $33.99 CAD.

I’m a Preschool Teacher and highly recommend this one, especially for ages 4-6!

The Indestructibles are books built for the way babies “read”: with their hands and mouths. Printed on a unique paper-like material that is nontoxic, washable, and rip-proof, they hold up against anything little ones can throw at them. With few words and eye-catching colors, these books introduce infants to the act of reading. Actress and director Olivia Wilde sums it up, short and to the point: they’re pretty “friggin’ genius.”

With the two latest installments, Indestructibles is bringing holidays to your home! Baby’s First Passover takes baby through the steps of their first Seder meal. Happy Easter takes little ones on their first egg hunt and introduces them to their new favorite character: the Easter bunny.

I absolutely love these books! Toddlers can not tear them up! I took them to my Preschool class and they still are not ripped! You can find out more here.

Self Disclosure: I received free samples of the above books to facilitate this holiday post. Cover images were also provided.
