Celebrate Black History Month with these books!

THE AWAKENING OF MALCOLM X by Ilyasah Shabazz and Tiffany D. Jackson: A powerful narrative account of the activist’s adolescent years in jail, written by his daughter Ilyasah Shabazz along with YA powerhouse Tiffany D. Jackson. This one is perfect for young adults.

MIGHTY JUSTICE (Young Readers’ Edition) by Dovey Johnson Roundtree and Katie McCabe; adapted by Jabari Asim: A young reader’s adaptation of Mighty Justice: My Life in Civil Rights, the memoir of activist and trailblazer Dovey Johnson Roundtree. I recommend this one for Middle school age children.

Self Disclosure: I received free copies of the above books to feature as books of the week. Images were also provided.

Bubs, Feb. 25th Pet of the Week!

This is Bubs. This poor old man was found wandering the streets, skinny as a rail. At 10 years old, that’s no place or condition for a sweet, gentle fellow. He’s gaining weight at the shelter and is enjoying short walks and human company. Can he be your only dog? That would be the best thing for him. Because the shelter is closed to the public, adoption appointments are conducted through appointment, so call 562-570-PETS or email to meet Bubs. Ask for ID#A653333.

(This rescue encouraged by the usual suspects.)
