My Spy * Love The Friendship That Develops Between JJ and Sophie

A hardened CIA operative finds himself at the mercy of a precocious 9-year-old girl, having been sent undercover to surveil her family. KIDS FIRST! Film Critic Lindalee R. comments, “I loved the friendship and love that develops between the characters JJ (Dave Bautista) and Sophie (Chloe Coleman)! They start off as strangers and then, throughout the movie, JJ teaches her how to be a good spy, and she teaches him how to be a kinder person as their relationship grows stronger and they become friends.” Tiana S. adds, “My Spy is a very entertaining and funny movie! The casting director, Anne McCarthy and Kellie Roy, picked the perfect people to play the roles in this film. The music selections are very upbeat and work perfectly in each scene.” Kori P. wraps it up with, “My Spy is a hilarious, action-filled film! My Spy mixes comedy and action in a way that comes off quite naturally. The stunts and effects are quite realistic. Another thing I couldn’t get enough of is the awesome chemistry between Dave Bautista and Chloe Coleman, the films two leads.” See their full reviews below.

I thought My Spy was so good because I loved the friendship and love that develops between the characters JJ (Dave Bautista) and Sophie (Chloe Coleman)! They start off as strangers and then, throughout the movie, JJ teaches her how to be a good spy, and she teaches him how to be a kinder person as their relationship grows stronger and they become friends. Not only does JJ have a change of heart and but eventually he develops feelings for her mom.

My Spy is the story of a CIA agent who is secretly watching a family in order to try and get information connected to a big case he is on. One of the people he is watching is the little girl, Sophie, who discovers J.J. and that he is spying on her and her mom. In exchange for not revealing his secret, Sophie makes him teach her how to be a good spy.

One of my favorite parts of My Spy is when JJ goes on a date with Sophie‘s mom and starts dancing. Because his character is so serious and he’s such a large person, it’s very funny to see him trying to do all these trendy dances…because he does it so terribly! Honestly, it kind of reminded me of my dad dancing.

For those who like Dave Bautista in Guardians of the Galaxy you will love him in this movie. Chloe Coleman has a very bright acting future—she is such a kind person both on and off camera, and she has such an amazing on-camera presence.

A quick note to parents:  My Spy does contain some adult language (and in some songs played during the movie.) So while younger kids may enjoy it, parents should decide if their kids are mature enough to see a movie with moments of profanity.

My Spy is full of action, fun, comedy and love. I give My Spy 5 out of 5 stars. I recommend it for ages 10 to 18, and adults will love it too! Don’t miss it. It’s available on Amazon Prime June 30, 2020!

My Spy is a very entertaining and funny movie! The casting director, Anne McCarthy and Kellie Roy, picked the perfect people to play the roles in this film. The music selections are very upbeat and work perfectly in each scene.

My Spy tells the story of J.J. (Dave Bautista), a CIA agent who secretly spies on a family with his colleague Bobbi (Kristen Schaal) until their nine-year-old girl, Sophie Vale (Chloe Coleman) finds out what they are up to. Sophie blackmails J.J, into doing things for her so she’s not left alone or unable to attend certain events. J.J. decides to help Sophie so that she won’t tell anyone about him and blow his cover. They go on an adventure filled with drama and secret spy missions

The main characters are J.J. and Sophie Vale—she is my favorite character. She is so smart and funny. My favorite part of this movie is when J.J. and Sophie are walking away from an explosion and Sophie’s mom, Kate (Parisa Fitz-Henley), is confused because they are walking slowly away instead of running. The special effects, such as the explosions, in this movie are so realistic. The music really drives the movie, and the right song plays at the right time. For example, in the beginning, J.J. is in a car chase and tries to find the perfect song for the car chase. I also enjoyed seeing the relationship between actors Coleman and Bautista on scene. You can tell they had fun filming it together, and you’ll have fun watching them on scene.

The message of My Spy is to trust people, even kids. Throughout the movie J.J. has to learn that he has people in his life that can help him. You have to let other people help in order to be successful or accomplish your goals— you never know what could happen if you work with others and let them in. Adults should look out for gun violence and effects that may be scary for younger kids.

My Spy is a “spy-tastic” film that the whole family, especially older kids, will love! I give My Spy 5 out of 5 stars and recommend it for kids 10 to 18 years old. Adults will like it too. My Spy comes out on Amazon Prime on June 26, 2020.

My Spy

By Kori P., KIDS FIRST! Film Critic, age 12

My Spy is a hilarious, action-filled film! My Spy mixes comedy and action in a way that comes off quite naturally. The stunts and effects are quite realistic. Another thing I couldn’t get enough of is the awesome chemistry between Dave Bautista and Chloe Coleman, the films two leads.

The storyline is about a CIA agent, JJ (Dave Bautista) and his partner Bobbi (Kristen Schaal) whose newest mission is to surveil a single mother, Kate (Parisa Fitz-Henley) and her 9-year-old daughter Sophie (Chloe Coleman), who they think might be connected to the criminals they’re after. JJ and Bobbi rent a room in the same apartment complex as the people they’re surveilancing and implant cameras in Kate and Sophie’s apartment. Sophie finds one of the cameras and tracks down it down, leading her to JJ and Bobbi. She then blackmails JJ into doing her favors and training her to become a spy, while they develop a father-daughter relationship, and Sophie tries pairing JJ with her mom.

This film has incredible stunts and special effects! In the opening scene, there’s a huge gun fight as JJ walks out of an exploding building as the criminals inside perish. The star of this film is none other than former wrestler Dave Bautista. Bautista’s performance is terrific, in his second high profile film role, after his recurring role in Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Guardians of the Galaxy franchise. My Spy is directed by Peter Segal (Naked Gun, The Final Insult, Tommy Boy, Get Smart). My personal favorite part of this movie is when while JJ is training Sophie on how to distract an enemy, Sophie distracts JJ by knocking over the fish bowl, almost killing JJ’s pet fish Blueberry. Luckily JJ has a glass of water on the table and Blueberry survives.

The message of My Spy is that it’s okay to open up to people. JJ develops a relationship with Sophie, Kate and Bobbi when he opens up to Sophie about how his ex-fiancé left him after he returned from the army. There is mild adult humor and mild cursing in this film that parents should know about.

I give My Spy 5 out of 5 stars and recommend it for ages 7 to 18. My Spy releases on Amazon Prime June 26, 2020!. Look for it.

Four Kids and It * A Wonderful Fantasy Film with Such Realistic Looking CGI

A group of kids on holiday in Cornwall meet a magical creature on the beach with the power to grant wishes. KIDS FIRST! Film Critic Lindalee R., comments, “Inspired by E. Nesbit’s 1902 serialized novel called Five Children and It,  the movie Four Kids and It is a wonderful fantasy film for all ages that brings the story alive. Four Kids and It

Inspired by E. Nesbit’s 1902 serialized novel called Five Children and It,  the movie Four Kids and It is a wonderful fantasy film for all ages that brings the story alive. The CGI seems so real that I believed the Psammead (the creature in the film played by Michael Caine) was actually alive and right there with the actors on the set.

Full of adventure, Four Kids and It is about two families. Each family has two kids and all four kids want their birth parents to get back together. When the two split families meet up for a vacation, the kids find out their parents are dating each other and they absolutely freak out. While being forced to play with each other and to get to know one another, they meet a magical sand creature called a Psammead who tells them that he can grant each of them wishes, but only one a day. Also, the wishes expire at sunset.

Throughout this movie the four kids get to know each other better, become much closer and start to bond more like a real family. There is a man named Tristan Trent (Russell Brand), who lives in a mansion on the island that they all go to for their vacation. For generations, Tristan’s family were hunters of rare and unique living creatures on Earth. Tristan and his ancestors have been trying to find the legendary Psammead for decades. When the kids come to the island, he knows that he could use them to track the creature down. If he can lure out and capture the creature, he can finally add it to his family’s collection of trophies…and hopefully get in a wish or two as well!

The scenes with the kids each coming up with their own magical wishes and living them out for the day are fun. It also made me wonder what I would wish for if I only had a day to experience a wish.

The message of this film is to be careful what you wish for, but also that sometimes change happens and no matter how bad it seems, that it can offer up new opportunities and maybe create something better than you ever had before.

I give Four Kids and It  5 out of 5 stars, and I recommend it for ages 6 to 18, and adults will love it too! I know my parents sure did.

The movie will be available on Digital, Blu-Ray, DVD and on-demand, as well as major digital platforms like Amazon Prime, Vudo and others, on June 30, 2020, from Lionsgate Film

How to learn piano on a keyboard?

Photo by Martin Hexeberg on Unsplash

A keyboard and piano are similar instruments that serve the same purpose but operate in different ways. A piano is an acoustic instrument that creates sound through striking strings, while a keyboard produces audio digitally. Therefore, it is apparent that these two instruments are inherently different, and therefore may not be comparable in operation. However, it is possible to use one to learn the other. More specifically, you can learn the piano through a keyboard. Below are some ways how:

  1. Key Arrangement

Luckily, most keyboards and pianos have similarly placed keys. The arrangement of keys on boh instruments are similar, and despite being generally thinner in keyboards, they are situated similarly to pianos. They also produce identical notes in both instruments, making it easy to operate. The similarity of the key arrangement means that there is a minuscule time needed to familiarize yourself with either instrument, making the transition between keyboard and piano near seamless.

  1. Range

A standard piano has 88 keys. Some keyboards, similarly, have 88 keys. However, some do not and typically have fewer keys, depending on the model and cost. As a result, it may be difficult to adequately learn how to play on a piano if you use a keyboard with fewer keys. A solution is to find a model with 88 keys, or at least 72 keys. With this, you can adequately train on your keyboard and consequently get good at playing the piano. A keyboard with at least 72 keys should be adequate to train on the more familiar piano compositions.

  1. Action

The action of a piano is the responsiveness of the keys when pushed down. A piano has, seeing as they are acoustic instruments, and thus respond adequately when the keys get pushed. Many keyboards, on the other hand, have less action, and therefore are less weighted when pushed. Consequently, you may lack adequate knowledge to play the piano effectively, having trained with a less weighted keyboard. The adjustment to the piano can take up some time as a result. However, you can get an electronic keyboard with weighted keys similar to pianos, making this transition easy. Keyboards with action identical to pianos will help you get the same feel to playing an acoustic piano.

  1. Cost

Pianos tend to be more expensive than keyboards. The price varies with different pianos, but generally, across the board, keyboards are less expensive. The cost of a piano differs depending on size, manufacturer, materials used in building it, and its design. In this regard, it may be difficult for you to acquire a piano for your music lessons. Keyboards are more affordable, and seeing their similarity to pianos, make a better purchase. However, despite the affordability, you need to get a keyboard with appropriate features, one whose elements are comparable to a piano. With one of these, you can typically learn to play the piano on a more-affordable keyboard.

  1. Portability

Pianos tend to be large and cumbersome, and are very difficult to relocate. Most pianos have a designated place in the house, from where one can practice. Keyboards, on the other hand, are more portable. You can take your keyboard with you whenever you need it, helping you learn faster. Keyboards are also much easier to rent since you can easily carry it home, making it easier to learn piano, more affordably.

Is it Possible to Avoid Inheritance Tax?

How to help your family to save a small fortune when you pass away?

When someone from our closest family dies, we have to deal not only with the grief but also with inheritance tax (IHT), unfortunately. It is a tax concerning the money, possessions, and property of the deceased one. People often feel confused after such a loss, and find it hard to follow the legal restrictions, so they often turn to companies like Probate Advance for help. It is definitely worth finding out if there is a way to avoid such an unpleasant situation as paying a tax on the estate you have inherited. For this reason, we have prepared some tips on how to do it. Check them out!

Let Your Spouse or Civil Partner Get the Estate

Keep in mind that if you leave your estate to your civil partner or spouse, they will be free from paying the tax. Thanks to including this statement in your will, your family will be able to save a lot of money. After your partner’s death, they will only have to deal with the unused personal allowance, which will make it possible for them to pass on even as much as £325,000 more as an element of the primary IHT allowance. In case your partner marries again, the personal allowances that have not been used can be summed up and passed on. However, remember that it is only allowed up to the value of one complete personal allowance.

Gift Your Money

You can effortlessly avoid paying inheritance tax – just by giving away your money when you are still alive. You can gift even as much as £3,000 every tax year, and this amount can be divided between many people. What is more, you can give £250 to others as many times as you want.

If a wedding is coming, you can transfer up to £1,000 and forget about IHT. Your children can get as much as £5,000, and your grandchildren are allowed to receive up to £2,500. You just need to bear in mind that wedding gifts need to be made before the ceremony, and the wedding has to go ahead because if it does not happen, they will be perceived as potentially exempt transfers.

Create a Will

One of the crucial aspects of estate planning is to make a proper will. In this way, you can be certain that your assets will be managed the way you wish. If you do not prepare such a document before your death, your assets will be divided in accordance with the intestacy rules and may require paying inheritance tax that could otherwise be easily avoided. Many people think that the main purpose of creating a will is to have an appropriate division of the assets, but in fact, its another significant function is to allow your family to save a lot of money.

Remember to Stay Below the IHT Threshold

The inheritance tax nil-rate band (so, in other words, the inheritance tax threshold) for individuals counts £325,000 for the tax year 2020/21. It can be transferred to a civil partner or spouse what will make a total nil rate band of £650,000 for a couple. The 2015 Summer Budget introduced a new “main residence transferable allowance,” which gradually raises from £100,000 in 2017 to £175,000 for a person by 2020/21, so people may avoid taxing with IHT on their property. Take into account that this amount of money must be added to the nil-rate IHT threshold.

Place Assets within a Trust

Take into consideration that assets that are put in a trust will not contribute to the value of your estate when you die, so you can avoid inheritance tax in this way as well. For instance, you can put assets into a trust on your children’s behalf when they become adults.

Donate to Charities

If you leave money to any charity that is registered in the United Kingdom, they will not contribute to inheritance tax either. The same rule applies to donations made for local sports clubs and political parties. Furthermore, provided that you let such an organisation gets over 10% of your taxable estate, the inheritance tax rate for the rest of your assets will decrease from 40% to 36%. Keep in mind that the 10% is only applicable to the size of your estate over the lifetime allowance.

All in all, there are quite a few ways to avoid paying inheritance tax, so if you want to save your family from additional worries and expenses when you pass away, take care of this issue while you are still with them!

Kali and Ginger, June 25th Pets of the Week!

Family Nature Walk Tips and Activities

Photo by Jessica Rockowitz on Unsplash

Nature activities can be extremely beneficial for kids’ health and happiness, especially if the whole family is involved. Of course, kids nowadays are mostly attracted to gadgets and screens, but that can always be fixed with a bit of motivation and planning. Therefore, if you’re thinking about spending time outdoors with your loved ones, then going on a walk-in nature, here are some amazing tips that will surely help you have a great time.

1. Prepare your kids for what’s coming ahead

Children can be notoriously impatient, so it’s essential to let them know what to expect. Show them pictures of nature and give them an incentive, so they’ll feel excited and motivated to go. This is mainly important if they have never been in nature before. Also, be sure to tell them about all the fun things that you could all do together. However, be sure to make them feel included because the last thing you need is kids who refuse to cooperate.

2. Planning things accordingly matters a lot

Getting in the car and driving away might be tempting, but if you’re going with your family, it’s of utmost importance to plan things the right way. That means learning about the area and potential risks that await there, especially during spring and summer when there are a lot of insects buzzing around. Aside from that, you should make sure to have a plan B in case things don’t work out — so having a picnic is always a great way to relax after a long walk in nature.

3. Don’t forget to pack all the supplies

Just because you’re not going on a camping trip doesn’t mean you don’t need to pack all the much-needed supplies such as baby wipes, insect-repeller, water bottles and hand sanitizer, just to name a few. Since you’ll be with your children, you should make sure that they have all the snacks, soft drinks and possibly toys, in case they get hungry and bored. However, it’s important to mention that kids’ feet can be sensitive, so you should ensure they have comfortable and lightweight kids sandals, so they’ll be able to walk without getting any blisters or feeling discomfort.

4. Consider playing some games along the way

Walking in nature can be fun for those who enjoy it on a regular basis. Still, going for a walk with children is a different matter altogether, which is why it’s important to consider some entertainment options that will make walking more fun. For example, naming all the colors and plants along the way can be a great learning experience for your little ones. Aside from that, you can also organize a wet walk which is a walk during the rain. Getting wet and walking through puddles is a great adventure that many kids will find enjoyable and fun.

5. Sharing is caring

The best way to teach your kids about nature is to share it with them, meaning, rather than telling them about various plants and animals, you should also let them experience everything. Let them touch smell, and possibly taste the plants, but always make sure they’re not poisonous. That way they’ll be able to create memorable experiences that will help them learn about everything that surrounds them in this world.

6. Always be receptive and kind

This one is extremely valuable because being receptive means having awareness of nature and the outside world in general. If you see that kids’ attention isn’t there, it’s always better to take a break and possibly even go home. You can always come back next time and experience everything all over again. Making things interesting for kids is a sure way to have a wonderful and carefree time outdoors.

Conclusion

Family walk in nature is one of the best activities that you can do with your children. However, be sure to plan things neatly, and don’t forget to let them do things they enjoy. This will surely help them experience nature in an interesting, pleasant and memorable way.

Hello Summer: Tips to Keep the Pool Swim-Ready & Safe

Photo by Raphaël Biscaldi on Unsplash

Everybody is eagerly anticipated the long-awaited summer, and nobody could resist the temptation to refresh themselves in chilling water near the pool. If you are one of those lucky people who happen to own a swimming pool in the comfort of your house, you are aware of the importance of maintenance. Yes, it is easy to jump in, but it’s a whole other story to clean and keep it safe for future usage. But fear not, here are a few rather nifty ways to welcome the precious summer with ease and have your swimming pool up and ready for numerous enjoyable moments.

  1. Clean up the filters for debris

The water that flows into your pools runs through a certain filter. Adequate water circulation is the key to a safe and clean pool. The filter’s sole purpose is to clean and remove items that are not supposed to be in the pool anyhow, but if something is jamming that process you may end up having a dirtier pool. Remove the filter, clean out the skimmer and strainer basket from any debris like insects, dirt, and algae. Later, backwash your pool filter once you notice the water pressure, and the flow of backwater into the pool is weak. These simple procedures will ensure that your pool is residue and dirt-free, hence a safe place to swim in.

  1. Use the right pool chemicals

It’s of utmost importance to have your pool tested for chemical balance from time to time. During summertime, we tend to use our pool more frequently and for everybody’s health and safety getting appropriate swimming pool chemicals is a must. Once you have found the right products, use an easy testing kit to check whether all chemical levels in your pool are consistent. A perfect combination of quality pool chemical, regular inspection, and cleaning will keep your pool in the optimal pH balance.

  1. Optimize chlorine usage

No matter how in a hurry you might be to jump into your pool before getting it thoroughly cleaned, exaggerating with chlorine may lead to severe problems like eye infections or skin infections. Test the pH and chlorine level and keep in mind that the optimum level is around 7.4 for the pH and between 1.0 to 3.0 for chlorine. Before disinfection check whether there is a need for detailed sanitation or just a mild clean up. If you want to avoid the pile of dirt, algae, and debris, do this test once a week and you will always have a clear insight into how much chlorine to add.

  1. Keep it scrubbed and polished

Empty your swimming pool and get a mop to meticulously scrub it before filling it up with water. If you have tiles this will be a fast job, however, if you have a concrete refurbished pool, then you should repaint it first. Once your pool is ready for summer delights, another great and useful way to keep it fantastic shape is to regularly skim the pool surfaces. This means removing leaves, tree branches, or any other items that might have fallen in your pool. Inspect the skimmer lid for any cracks and also clean the dirt before opening it. Last but not least, you can get a practical pool vacuum to vacuum the bottom of the pool, and do all of the above-mentioned skimmings and scrubbing much faster.

  1. Have a steady pool water level at all times

In summer months, evaporation and heat can easily lower your pool water levels and this can lead to skimmer and filter malefactions. If the pool water gets either too low or too high, it can stop the system and you may need to replace the pump and other pool equipment. Inspect pool water level, if necessary fill the pool with water with a garden hose from time to time and if the water is high, just clear out any debris or use a bucket to empty it.

Without much effort, you can clean your pool and get it shiny and ready for new dazzling summer adventures.

Don’t forget to add poolside accessories to make it more functional and safer like adding tables and foldable summer chairs for kids and parents to rest on.
