The Kindhumans Story

Kindhumans is the story of two people who were motivated to make a difference and ensure their children and the world they’re growing up in are kind and loving.

“I don’t care if our kids are the smartest or most athletic, I just want them to be kind humans,” said Suzi Wilkenfeld, co-founder of Kindhumans. “They are the basis for Kindhumans and our mission to connect good people with responsible brands.”

In 2019, wife and husband team Suzi and Justin Wilkenfeld launched a small family business: a marketplace to celebrate the good in humanity by elevating the 3 C’s: community, commerce and world-changing causes. Together, the “Three Cs” form the heart and soul of the Kindhumans brand.

Our amazing community is taking the next step forward with our Kindhumans holiday campaign with a gift of kindness to our membership program. Perks include 2% cash back, a welcome package and doubling down on Kindhumans’ givebacks on acts of kindness to benefit kids, the planet or humanitarian aid.

For 2020, our “Gift Kindness” includes amazing presents For Her, For Him, Furry Friends, Stocking Stuffers, Treat Yourself and gift cards. Check it out at https://kindhumans.com/giftkindness/

Having more trouble sleeping during this pandemic? I know I am! This one really may help!

Need more sleep? This sleep program will make a great gift! The new MindTravel Sleep from composer, pianist, and meditation teacher Murray Hidary will be a hit!  I had the opportunity to try it out and I really found it helpful!
The new downloadable  “Sleep” program is a 15-minute guided musical meditation. It features original music by Murray, enhanced with binaural beat technology.  This is a process that helps the brain generate the same wave patterns as those experienced during meditation or sleep states. It is key to reducing stress and anxiety and laying the groundwork for deeper, more restful sleep. Users are already reporting that the small $23 investment is making a positive difference in their nights, which of course, leads to healthier, more productive days. RALPHS AND FOOD 4 LESS KICK OFF SEASON OF GIVING WITH THIRD ANNUAL
‘HELP 4 THE HUNGRY’ DRIVE ACROSS SOCAL

Ralphs and Food 4 Less announce the return of their partnership across Southern California with NBC and Telemundo’s award-winning Help 4 the Hungry food donation drive in Los Angeles and San Diego. Now in its third year, the month-long campaign raises awareness and funds to feed tens of thousands of people in need —  a need that has grown as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

From November 23 through December 24, NBC4/KNBC in Los Angeles, NBC 7 & Telemundo 20 in San Diego with Ralphs and Food 4 Less stores will ask viewers and shoppers to donate $1, $5 or $10 at the register or by texting H4H to 41444. One hundred percent of proceeds benefit regional food banks in Los Angeles, Orange County, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego and Ventura counties.

“We are so grateful to our partner stations for their support and for raising awareness for the campaign through their daily newscasts, and to the viewers, customers and community supporters who so generously choose to give to the campaign each year,”

said John Votava, director, corporate affairs, Ralphs.“As a company, Ralphs is working towards a bold goal of achieving a world with Zero Hunger | Zero Waste. The Help 4 the Hungry campaign is one of the many ways in which we reach that goal.”

Donating is easy and available through multiple methods to accommodate everyone taking caution during the pandemic. Shoppers at Ralphs or Food 4 Less can ask the cashier to add a cash donation to their total at checkout or can make a donation anytime on a mobile phone by texting H4H to 41444 and following the prompts. Donations of any amount are encouraged.

“Food insecurity continues to be a significant problem in our society. We believe it is important to also tell the story behind the program,” said Steve Carlston, NBC4 President and General Manager. “For the duration of the ‘Help 4 the Hungry’ drive, our NBC4 stations will report stories about food insecurity in Southern California and feature people benefitting from donations.”

In three years,  the campaign has raised nearly $1,000,000 in cash donations and provided thousands of meals to help alleviate food insecurity in the region. Local food banks are experiencing high demand as more children, families, seniors, veterans, and communities of color struggle with economic hardship, job loss, homelessness during the pandemic, and worry about how to keep up with the current pace.

“We believe in ‘food first’ and that no matter who you are, where you’re from, how you shop or what you like to eat, everyone deserves to have fresh, affordable and easy-to-enjoy food that tastes amazing, said Vanessa Rosales, director, corporate affairs, Food 4 Less. “We are dedicated to giving back to the communities we serve, and this holiday season is especially critical.”

In addition to the Help 4 the Hungry drive, Ralphs and Food 4 Less will donate nearly 2,000 turkey dinners and $150,000 to local community organizations working to end hunger as part of the company’s Zero Hunger | Zero Waste initiative.

More information on how to donate can be found at www.nbcla.com/helpthehungry or visit Ralphs.com and Food4Less.com for store locations.

Dobby, Dec. 17th Pet of the Week!

Even though the poem “A Visit from St. Nicholas,” commonly known as “’Twas the Night Before Christmas,” describes Mr. Claus as “a right jolly old elf,” Dobby looks anything but. Named for the beloved house elf in the Harry Potter series, Dobby looks as if he’s muttering “Bah, humbug!” Don’t let that fool you. This blue-eyed 7-year-old, who came to the shelter as a stray, is a true man cat and craves love, attention and maybe a sock—stuffed with catnip! Because the shelter is closed to the public, adoption appointments are conducted through email, so contact PetAdopt@longbeach.gov to meet Dobby. Ask for ID#651055.

(This rescue encouraged by the usual suspects.)

Safety * Heartbreaking And Yet So Hopeful

The story of Ray-Ray McElrathbey, a freshman football player for Clemson University, who secretly raised his younger brother on campus after his home life became too unsteady. KIDS FIRST! Film Critic Nyara A. comments, “I absolutely loved the film Safety. The story is so inspiring and motivational and the camera work is phenomenal. This story is heartbreaking, yet makes you hopeful. Some of the scenes are comical, balancing the problem and the solution perfectly. It was inspiring to watch the two brothers take care of each other, always putting family first. Every scene touched my heart.” See her full review below.

Safety

By Nyara A., KIDS FIRST! Film Critic, age 12

I absolutely loved the film Safety. The story is so inspiring and motivational and the camera work is phenomenal. This story is heartbreaking, yet makes you hopeful. Some of the scenes are comical, balancing the problem and the solution perfectly. It was inspiring to watch the two brothers take care of each other, always putting family first. Every scene touched my heart.

The storyline follows the protagonist, Ray (Jay Reeves) who has been accepted to Clemson University on a scholarship to pursue his dream of being a football player, but his life at home is not so easy. His mother (Amanda Warren), whose husband left her,  is addicted to drugs. Ray is left to care for his little brother Fahmarr (Thaddeus J. Mixson). Can Ray handle school, family, football and a little bit of love life? How can he take care of his brother if Fahmerr is not allowed on campus?

Jay Reeves, who plays Ray, acts with emotion and expression, putting his all into every scene. Some scenes brought me to tears and others had me rolling around in my chair with laughter. Thaddeus J. Mixson who plays Fahmarr, plays his character in a way that is very likeable and funny. Although his character is humorous, some of his scenes still break your heart . The casting directors made an excellent choice for all of the actors. The camera work is amazing. The transitions are very creative and the perspective is wonderful. For example, during a football game, there is a moment where all you can hear is Ray’s breathing. The angle is as if you are looking from his eyes. The background music pumps you up for the games, making you excited and eager to see the results.

The message of this film is to put family first. Family is the most important thing in the world and you always have to be there for each other. No matter what happens, you can always rely on your family to help you out. There is no violence except during the football games. As usual there is tackling and pushing, although no one gets hurt. There is no bad language although there is a part during the film that is a bit creepy, with a group of men coming out of the shadows.

I give Safety 5 out of 5 stars and recommend it for ages 9 to 18. Adults would also enjoy this film. Safety is streaming exclusively on Disney+ starting December 11, 2020.
