Chalk Markers – HUGE MEGA 18 Color Pack by Stardom Crafts are a Must-Buy!

81vCl2+jo2L._SL1500_

I really love these! They are fun for both adults and kids! I love that I can use them on windows and that they easily wash off with soap and water. Perfect for crafts and my son really likes them! My son and I are using them on a weekly basis when we do arts and crafts projects. They also are perfect for a dry erase board too! You have to shake them a few times when they are new before they work-but then they flow easily. I love the chalk look on projects. These are a real Must-Buy!

Vitamin D3 800 IU Gummies- A Chewable Supplement by Nutrabear

I have to admit that I am a bit surprised that these aren’t exactly bear shaped but thy don’t claim to be! The texture is similar to a gummy bear but not quite as soft-more like a fruit snack. I think that the cherry-peach flavor is quite accurate and my son, who can be particular at times, had no problem taking them. There is a slight after taste but not unpleasant. These are really easy for kids to take and I really like that they are for both adults and kids.

You can purchase on Amazon.com.

Universal Studios Hollywood

The spotlight shines brightly on Universal Studios Hollywood as the world-class destination celebrates a milestone 50th anniversary with the much-anticipated opening of the “Fast & Furious—Supercharged” thrill ride, “Springfield,” an-all new immersive experience surrounding “The Simpsons Ride,” and a “Nighttime Studio Tour” as part of the theme park’s pioneering epic transformation.

This monumental undertaking—the most ambitious in the theme park’s storied 50-year history—will radically alter and reimagine its familiar footprint as The Entertainment Capital of L.A. sets its sights on the next 50 years.

From its humble beginnings five decades ago, Universal Studios Hollywood has emerged as one of the most progressive and exciting theme park experiences anywhere, while remaining true to its roots of immersing guests in the awe-inspiring world of movie-making magic.

Since its inception, Universal Studios has lifted the veil on Hollywood’s most illustrious industry, placing guests at the heart of favorite movies and television shows. It continues to be at the forefront of innovation, imagination and inspiration, working in collaboration with some of the most influential filmmakers in the business and the greatest minds in entertainment—Steven Spielberg, Matt Groening, James L. Brooks, Peter Jackson, Michael Bay and Chris Meledandri—to create intriguing rides and attractions.

“For 50 years, Universal Studios Hollywood has given guests unprecedented access to the world’s most alluring business by inviting them to peek behind the velvet curtain and become part of the exciting movie-making process,” said Larry Kurzweil, President of Universal Studios Hollywood. “We are reimagining over 75 percent of our destination as we build upon our incredible success and expand our vision for the future, and we look forward to entertaining and inspiring guests for generations to come with what will ultimately be an entirely new theme park experience.”

The “Glamour Trams” of yesteryear that gave way to today’s world-famous Studio Tour is undergoing a top to bottom makeover to coincide with the 50th anniversary, and by 2016, will roll out a fleet of new, contemporary trams, including the installation of ultra-comfy cushioned seats.  A modern exterior and sleek logo design will contribute to the updated aesthetics of these iconic trams, while a new Art Deco-themed Studio Tour entry portal, located within the theme park, will greet guests.

Offered in multiple languages, including Mandarin, Japanese, Spanish and English and led by expert guides, the acclaimed Studio Tour remains a hallmark Universal Studios Hollywood attraction bringing millions of guests through an authentic movie and television studio and into its elusive world motivated by three compelling words:  lights, camera, action.

The action, however, is only getting started.

This summer, high-octane excitement will race onto the scene when Universal Studios Hollywood introduces “Fast & Furious—Supercharged,” a pulse-pounding, adrenaline-fueled thrill ride as the new grand finale to the world-famous Studio Tour.

This gripping, technologically-advanced ride, inspired by Universal Pictures’ most successful film franchise of all time and featuring the film’s original cast members, will propel guests into the high-stakes underground world of fast cars and daring escapades traveling at accelerated speeds of up to 120 miles per hour. Situated within a newly constructed 65,000 square foot building on the legendary backlot, the high speed, 3D-HD ride will reunite stars from the Fast & Furious series—Vin Diesel (Dominic “Dom” Toretto), Dwayne Johnson (Luke Hobbs), Michelle Rodriguez (Letty Ortiz), Tyrese Gibson (Roman Pearce) and Luke Evans (Owen Shaw)—in a revolutionary mega-attraction, conceived as a new installment to the dynamic film series that can only be experienced at The Entertainment Capital of L.A.

The layout of the park will become unrecognizable when “Springfield,” hometown of America’s favorite family, The Simpsons, breathes new life to the sprawling and vibrant space surrounding “The Simpsons Ride.”  “Springfield” is designed to capture the spirit of the animated town and engage visitors and fans of the show in the intensely absorbing and colorful world made famous throughout the series’ record-setting 26 seasons.

Guests visiting “Springfield” will have the pleasant sensation of being hurled through their television sets and into the accurately depicted town, complete with signature eateries such as Krusty Burger, Cletus’ Chicken Shack, Luigi’s Pizza and Phineas Q. Butterfat’s Ice Cream Parlor, along with Homer’s favorite hangouts, Lard Lad Donuts, Moe’s Tavern and Duff Brewery.

Universal’s slate of new 2015 attractions will entertain from sunup to sundown when the theme park broadens the scope of its popular Studio Tour with the introduction of a “Nighttime Studio Tour,” designed to enlighten guests on the art of moonlight movie-making.

Under a blanket of stars, over 20 locations along the famed Studio Tour route will showcase an array of luminous onset lighting and special effects used in nighttime production. Theatrical lighting will cast a glow on iconic backlot sets as Studio Tour guides shed light on Hollywood secrets and tricks of the world’s most glamorous trade, including how filmmakers create the effect of daylight amid the black of night.  Celebrated stars who found fame on Universal’s backlot will also make cameo appearances on the “Nighttime Studio Tour,” including Marilyn Monroe, Norman Bates and Frankenstein.  The “Nighttime Studio Tour” will run every weekend throughout the summer from July 4th through Labor Day.

The excitement that these new rides, attractions and themed immersive lands will bring to guests is only a prelude to the highly-anticipated arrival of “The Wizarding World of Harry Potter™” in 2016.

In the spirit of the popular social media trend, Throwback Thursdays (#TBT), Universal Studios Hollywood’s Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram will pay tribute to its legacy with a collection of nostalgic photos. Join the conversation and share Universal Studios Hollywood memories using #UniStudios50th and @UniStudios.

Universal Studios Hollywood, The Entertainment Capital of L.A.SM, includes a full-day, movie-based theme park and Studio Tour; the CityWalk entertainment, shopping and dining complex, the Universal CityWalk Cinemas and the “5 Towers” state-of-the-art outdoor concert venue.  World-class rides and attractions include the incredibly popular 3D Ultra-HD adventure, “Despicable Me Minion Mayhem” and immersive “Super Silly Fun Land,” the critically-acclaimed mega-attraction, “Transformers™:  The Ride-3D,” the intense, award-winning ride, “King Kong 360 3-D” on the behind-the-scenes Studio Tour, “Revenge of the MummySM—The Ride” and “Jurassic Park® —The Ride.” As part of its milestone 50th anniversary celebration in 2015, Universal Studios Hollywood will debut a slate of dynamic new attractions, including the electrifying 3D-HD thrill ride, “Fast & Furious—Supercharged” as the grand finale to the famed Studio Tour, “Springfield,” hometown of America’s favorite TV family, adjacent to the award-winning “The Simpsons RideTM” and the “Nighttime Studio Tour,” offering evening tours of the iconic movie backlot.

This past week, my family had the opportunity to attend a Mom and Dad Blogger event at Universal Studios Hollywood! It was a hot sunny day and  quite crowded but we had so much fun! I do recommend if you go this Summer, you should buy the Front of the Line passes! I so wish all amusement parks offered this because it is worth the price! We had the opportunity to check out the all-new signature attractions, including: “Fast & Furious-Supercharged”, Raptor Encounter (this is really brand new!) and “Springfield,” Hometown of The Simpsons. I also love the Minions and the Minion Ride! I have to admit that the Minion Ride is a favorite of mine! (I also love seeing the Minions!)

We were blown away by the “Fast & Furious-Supercharged” and the Raptor Encounter! My son already liked the Studio Tour with comedian/video host Jimmy Fallon so the added “Fast & Furious-Supercharged” was a great addition and ending to the Studio Tour. It definitely is a thrill ride!  We took it quite seriously when told to turn off cellphones so unfortunately, no video or photo but you don’t want to miss this one!

Stay tuned! Next week’s Universal Studio post will include our thoughts on the Raptor Encounter and “Springfield,” Hometown of the Simpsons!

Krispy Kreme is the place to go for Doughnuts!

Looking for delicious, fresh doughnuts? Krispy Kreme is the place to go! We recently had the opportunity to review our local Krispy Kreme in Gardena. I have to admit that my son and I have been there before and love it! So, we decide to take two friends that have never been there. One great thing about Krispy Kreme is the atmosphere! We did visit on a very crowded day and the line was out the door. Maybe it was because it was Free Doughnut Day? Yes, that may have had a lot to do with it!The line was well worth the wait! A favorite thing for both kids and adults is what my son calls “seeing the River of Glaze”, where you can see the doughnuts go through the glaze. They have an amazing variety and my favorite was the Lemon Creme! I can’t wait until they have those again! My son prefers their original glazed and the glazed twist. Our guest blogger Raya also said “These are the best doughnuts!” It was her first time there. Of course, my son and I had to take a dozen to go!

Now, they have a delicious Brownie Batter doughnut and a Birthday Cake Batter doughnut…don’t miss them! I love the Brownie Batter!

We have teamed up for a Giveaway! One winner will win a Free Coupon for a Free Dozen! To enter, tell us the flavor of your favorite doughnut. Deadline to enter is July 22nd, 2015 at noon PST. One winner will randomly be selected via Random.org.

Authenticate your Tweens lives with AuthenticME’s “ELEMENTS for Girls A Fun & Engaging Self Discovery Project,”

20150707_180303_resized     20150707_180353_resized     20150708_155619_resized

AuthenticME, a company created by two women who have dedicated their careers to helping adolescent girls, is aimed specifically for this purpose. The company’s mission is to develop products that will encourage girls to explore, embrace and empower all aspects of their authentic selves.

The company’s new book, “ELEMENTS for Girls  A Fun & Engaging Self Discovery Project,” provides a way for girls to slow down, disconnect from technology and connect with their authentic self,” said Sandra McDonnell, AuthenticME partner.  Each of the book’s 10 chapters invites girls to read, reflect, create and complete interesting and introspective activities while exploring themes such as feelings, self-acceptance, empathy, decision making and communications.  The theme of self-care is woven throughout the book in sections on sleep, healthy eating and stress management.

Integral to the concept is a bracelet that girls create as they work their way through the book.  “The beads are a fun, visual reminder of what is learned in the book,” according to Mary Ellen Young, AuthenticME partner and founder of Helping Girls Navigate Adolescence (HGNA), a Downers Grove, IL based non-profit organization that provides a variety of supportive programs for girls and parents.  “It takes time and practice to develop healthy, positive habits and skills,” said Young.

The section on empathy allows girls to work through real-life examples of how to put yourself in someone else’s shoes. “Developing empathy is a critical skill in reducing bullying and building healthy relationships,” according to Young, a bullying consultant and speaker on relational aggression. “A cute flip flop is the bracelet charm for this section, and serves as a reminder for the girls to put themselves in each other’s shoes. It is our goal to create a reminder for our girls so that when the temptation is there to throw out their arm and save a seat, instead they will look at their wrist, think about what it feels like to be that girl standing there, and make room.”

Many girls had a hand in development of the concept for the book and bracelet project. Focus groups were held with local girls who subsequently completed two sample chapters at home. “Their insight was key. We were motivated by how much they loved the concept,” said McDonnell.

“Girls benefit greatly from opportunities for personal reflection and self-awareness,” says McDonnell who is also the current HGNA president. The project was a creative family affair with Young and McDonnell’s three high school- and college-aged daughters playing key roles.  Sierra Young, a talented artist, created all the original doodle art, Nora Young inserted her keen sense of style into the book and bracelet designs, and Emma McDonnell researched and selected “the coolest beads” she could find.

We received the book to review and let our awesome tween guest blogger, Raya review it for us!

Here is Raya’s review:

What I liked. ..this product is a good way to express girl’s feelings and emotions. Elements for girls is a great way to build confidence and character. I think that elements for girls should improve their product by giving more helpful diagrams to build the bracelet. Overall this product is really great, and I really love this book. I think that all girls should express their feelings through this lovely product.

SoCal City Kids recommends this one!

The book comes with a kit to make the bracelet with beads that represent the theme of each chapter. The book and bracelet, priced at $24.99, are available at online at www.authenticme.biz

Pokemon Symphonic Evolutions

Pokemon_Symphonic_Square-10x10-Pikachu

Last weekend, our family had the opportunity to attend the Pokemon Symphonic Evolutions at the Greek Theatre. This truly was an amazing experience! My son (who loves Pokemon) absolutely loved it! In his words, it was “Awesome!” If you have a chance to catch this tour, don’t miss it!  My husband said that it was unexpected and he was pleasantly surprised that the music from the  Pokemon games when it was set to music with a great composer, it really comes alive! Seeing the music come to life in a symphony was just amazing! I actually have no other words! The Greek Theater Orchestra and the amazing conductor were a great team! My son is hoping to see this tour again one day! Find out more at http://www.pokemon.com/us/pokemon-symphony/
