SoCal City Kids books of the month!

Keep kids and dads entertained with Made With Dad by Chris Barnardo!

Made with Dad

Created by crafter extraordinaire and father of four Chris Barnardo, Made with Dad: From Wizards’ Wands to Japanese Dolls, Craft Projects to Build, Make, and Do with Your Kids is the perfect gift for dads and kids, especially now that  summer break is upon us!

I received a copy of this one and really love all the great craft suggestions! My son and husband liked making the Space Vase (on page 20-21) and there are even fun and easy recipes like Chocolate Rice Krispie cakes..yum! I know that this book will get a lot of use because there are so many fun activities!

Made By Dad features fifty-five original activities that are appropriate for children of both genders.

Color photographs and easy-to-follow, step-by-step illustrations are included throughout to inspire and guarantee a successful design. A URL for a site where readers can print the templates in the book—so they don’t damage their copy!—is also included.

You can purchase on Amazon.com.

The next one is great especially for parents of Tweens and Teens!

How to Entertain, Distract, and Unplug Your Kids

How to Entertain, Distract, and Unplug Your Kids by graphic designer, artist, and single dad Matthew Jervis is full of tips, tricks, and tools to keep kids engaged and off of your phone. With these simple tricks, you will turn their boredom into fun, teachable, and productive (sometimes) moments in this irreverent yet practical guide. From photo bombing magazines in the dentist’s office to sock matching speed trials to making bread, this book provides spontaneous activities that kids can do with or without you, leaving time for you to do parent stuff like making dinner, reading the paper, or enjoying a glass of wine.

I am really enjoying having this book handy! My son gets bored easily enough as it is but on errands he gets very bored! This is a helpful book with great suggestions!

Find it on Amazon.com.

Both of the suggestions above published by Skyhorse Publishing.

Paper Jewelry: 55 Projects for Reusing Paper by Barbara Baumann and  Flurina Hodel.

unnamed

With detailed instructions, templates, and colorful photography, this book shows how to craft fifty-five paper jewelry projects. Colorful and graphic designs range from necklaces, brooches, earrings, and bracelets to hair accessories. Learn how to find inspiration in a wide variety of recycled papers. Projects re-use maps, stationery, comic books, cardboard, magazines, and even candy wrappers. The various projects appeal to a wide variety of aesthetics, from the more traditional and refined to the more contemporary and flamboyant. There are also projects for a wide range of skill levels, making this an inspiring and practical book for everyone from beginners to established jewelry artists.

We had our guest blogger Raya W check this one out for us! She is quite crafty and thought she would like this one! Here are her comments: Paper Jewelry is a great way to use recycled paper to create an amazing line of your own jewelry. I choose the Yahtzee ring because of its style, the concept of the design is very unique. This book is great for girls and boys that are my age or any age.
