Education.com donating $1 mil in resources for Teacher Appreciation Week

In honor of Teacher Appreciation Week, Education.com, the nation’s leading online destination for teachers and parents, today announced an ambitious nationwide effort to support teachers in underserved schools by offering $1 million worth of free subscriptions to Education.com Pro, which also includes access to Brainzy, an early math and reading program. The no-charge access is available to any eligible teacher at a Title 1 school who registers at Education.com by September 1, 2015:www.education.com/give.

The majority of U.S. public school students come from low-income families, according to an analysis of federal data from 2013. As the nation becomes increasingly aware of the educational disparities between children in affluent areas and those in impoverished ones, many schools are looking to technology to bridge this gap, installing computers and other technologies in classrooms nationwide. Through this donation, Education.com strives to support teachers with free access to its entire platform of educational resources, while extending awareness of the systemic, income-based inequities.

The Education.com Pro donation will provide unlimited access to the Education.com platform, including more than 20,000 worksheets in all subjects, the Brainzy Math and Reading Program for younger students, over 5,000 learning activities and science projects, the ability for teachers create custom worksheets for their classes, plus soon-to-be-released lesson plans.

“At Education.com we encounter countless teachers who work tirelessly to ensure their students receive the best education possible, but we understand that a lack of resources in some schools can be a barrier to success,” says Rich Yang, Co-CEO of Education.com. “By offering $1 million worth of subscriptions, we want to support teachers in underserved communities and help them by providing high quality educational resources to their students.”

With an estimated one in every four teachers across the U.S. accessing Education.com, the site is a crucial resource for educators looking to enhance classroom learning and provide students with fun educational content.  The site expects another historic year of growth after surpassing five million new members in 2014, as the demand for the online resources of the kind and quality that Education.com provides has never been higher.

Parking Improvements Slated For Del Amo Fashion Center As Part Of Ongoing Transformation

Del Amo Fashion Center will tout a new nearly 2,000-car parking structure complete with quick-charge electric vehicle charging stations, car counters and direct access to the new Nordstrom when it debuts at the center this October.

The parking updates are part of the ongoing transformation of South Bay’s premier retail destination.

“Our goal is to continue to offer updated amenities that make shopping at Del Amo Fashion Center even more convenient and enjoyable for our shoppers,” said Lindsay Hermance, director of marketing and business development at Del Amo Fashion Center. “We’re excited about all the enhancements taking place, and can’t wait to unveil our new look and feel this Fall.”

Located along Fashion Way between the Marriott Hotel and Del Amo’s newer Outdoor Village, the five-level north parking structure will showcase car counters on each level, giving shoppers a quick and hassle-free way to locate open parking and setting the stage for a more convenient shopping experience.

The structure will also give shoppers direct access to the 140,000-square-foot Nordstrom and the new Grand Court, which connects the Outdoor Village to the grand entrance of the center. The Grand Court, which will showcase natural light and an open-air feel, will also be home to the Guest Services center.

The new parking structure will also offer 21 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, including two new fast-charging NRG eVgo (ee-vee-go) Freedom Station sites that can recharge shoppers’ vehicles in 30 minutes or less, allowing them to plug in while they shop or grab a bite to eat in the new Patio Cafes dining pavilion.

The eVgo Freedom Station sites will be designed to support both current and future charging technology, by serving southern California EV drivers’ on-the-go charging needs regardless of what kind of electric vehicle they drive. The stations currently support CHAdeMO direct current (DC) fast charging, as well as standard alternating current (AC) J1772 Level 2 EV charging and can be upgraded with an SAE Combo charger as more EVs with that charging standard become available.

Ambience upgrades are being made as well. In addition to the green screen vine trellis that will adorn the new parking structure, a mile-long pedestrian walkway is being created along Hawthorne Way, with low water flow throughout the property.

The initial opening of phase two of the renovation, which is expected to accompany the Nordstrom opening in October 2015, will feature a state-of-the-art, two-level fashion wing with retailers including a two-level, 25,000 square-foot Zara, a two-level, 25,000 square-foot H & M, and a 15,000 square-foot flagship Victoria’s Secret thatis slated to be twice the size of the retailer’s typical space. The second phase will showcase the beginning of a restaurant row north of Carson Street, with Great Maple, FRIDA, and Lucille’s Smokehouse Bar-B-Que as the first of five eateries set to join the center.

Several more retail and dining announcements are forthcoming as the grand reopening of Del Amo Fashion Center approaches this Fall.

The All-Female Band The Mrs. Continues Their Mission To Uplift and Empower Women Everywhere

unnamed

Hot on the heels of the release of their latest single “You Told Me” which debuted at a New York City Mother’s Day gala celebration benefitting Dress for Success and hosted by Jenny McCarthy, the all-female rock band The Mrs. continues to honor moms everywhere.

The Mrs. is launching the #YouToldMe Mother’s Day Contest today to give participants across the U.S. a chance to win $50,000 for sharing their mother’s life lessons and words of wisdom.  One lucky winner will be selected on Mother’s Day, May 10, 2015.

By having entrants write about their mother’s words of wisdom, the band hopes to continue to draw attention to the incredible work moms do in caring for their families every day.  Recently, The Mrs. commissioned a survey of 5,000 mothers, and found that nearly 95% of them feel inadequate – and 90% agree that feeling like they’re not “enough” is a universal pattern among mothers. The Mrs. is on a mission to help change that!

“We all have worries, fears, and times when we feel we are not enough,” said The Mrs. founder and drummer, Andra Liemandt. “We want to empower women to believe they are enough just as they are.”

As part of their growing female empowerment movement and to help support the financial security of women, The Mrs. is aligning with Rising Tide Capital, a non-profit organization that will provide financial advisement to the contest recipient.

The Mrs. #YouToldMe Mother’s Day contest is designed to draw attention to the value of all the little things moms do and say every single day.  To enter the contest, and for complete rules and details, go tohttp://themrs.com/youtoldme/ to access the entry form. There is no purchase necessary.

The Mrs. “You Told Me” song is available on iTunes; video is available on The Mrs. YouTube Channel.

The Mrs. became known across the country for their powerful message of self-acceptance. Their first single “Enough” inspired the #ImEnough movement that is resonating with women from all walks of life, empowering them to love themselves just as they are. To bring this message to life, they created a talking “magic mirror” and have been successfully convincing women everywhere that they are, indeed, Enough!

This Mother’s Day, Promise Mom She’ll “See” More of You…

Moms crave time with their children, and they aren’t usually happy with just receiving a text, email or phone “check-in,” especially on Mother’s Day. In fact, more than one-third of parents (35%) with college-aged children prefer using video chat* to speak to their kids face-to-face.

This year, Mother’s Day can be a starting point for your readers to get on board for regular “video visits” via Skype with one of the most important women in their lives and to make it easy for kids living away from home to visit their moms virtually over video, check out these downloadable “coupons” they can send for mom to cash in on throughout the year. Coupons are redeemable for a range of activities that can easily take place over Skype, from cooking together to learn mom’s secret recipes to working out together to a virtual breakfast in bed.

With Skype..you can give Mom more quality time!
