Whole Foods Market hosts first-ever ‘Beauty Week’ in all stores

unnamed

Whole Foods Market kicks off its inaugural “Beauty Week,” March 18 through 24, to celebrate all things beauty related. Store Whole Body departments will host events, classes, demonstrations and promotions to inform shoppers about Whole Foods Market’s large selection of quality personal care products and cosmetics that support healthy people and a healthy planet.

“Our beauty department is really growing at Whole Foods Market and we’re excited to spotlight new products and showcase customer favorites in our stores this week,” said Maren Giuliano, executive global Whole Body coordinator.

During “Beauty Week,” all Whole Foods Market locations will offer a limited edition “Hello, Beauty!” bag for $18 (valued at $60), beginningSaturday, March 21, at 10 a.m. local time. Bags are made with 100 percent cotton recycled saris from RIJI Green, a business committed to ending human trafficking. Each Acure Cell Stimulating Facial Mask, Giovanni 2chic Ultra Repair Shampoo, Pacifica Eye Shadow Duo or Lipstick, Trilogy Vital Moisturizing Cream and Gabriel Mascara, plus $5 in beauty coupons.

From March 20 to 22, shoppers will save 25 percent on all facial care items at Whole Foods Market.

“One thing that really sets us apart in the beauty industry is our standards,” Giuliano said. “Our shoppers know and trust us because we have baseline standards that prohibit 50 ingredients in the products we sell, along with our top-tier standards, called Premium Body Care. When we first launched our premium standards in 2008, we had about 400 products that were certified—now we have more than 4,000.”

Whole Foods Market has been lauded for its beauty department standards over the years. In 2012, the company was named “the leading national retailer” in personal care product safety by the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics. The grocer was also named runner-up in the Sustainable Beauty Awards’ “Sustainable Leadership” category in 2014. Last month, Giuliano was named one of the “50 Most Powerful Women in Beauty” by Women’s Wear Daily.

The retailer also set its own standards for organic labeling on personal care products, as there are no mandatory government standards for the “organic” label claim on body care products.

They will also be hosting a beauty  Twitter chat this Thursday, March 19 from 6 p.m. – 7 p.m. Whole Body experts Becky McLucas and Robin Rogosin at @WFMlosangeles will be tweeting with influencer Sophie Uliano of Gorgeously Green. Hashtag #HelloBeauty

Francois et Mimi Ice Cream Bowl, Pastel Colors Set

I absolutely love these Ice Cream Bowls! They are just the perfect size for cereal, small salads and especially desserts such as Ice Cream! I love the cheery bright pastel colors (pink, purple, lavender, yellow, teal and blue). They can be easily stacked so they don’t take up much room in my kitchen at all! These really have quickly become my go-to bowls and are also a big hit with my family. They make my other bowls seem rather boring in comparison. It’s also great that they are dishwasher and microwave safe and are made of Stoneware Ceramic. They are perfect for entertaining and are a Must-Have for family birthdays. The best thing is that they are great for everyday use but special enough for special occasions.

Does An Unusual Photographic Image Capture the Release of the Human Soul?

Image of a Spirit cover

In the new book Image of a Spirit, Paul Williams shares what followed after he took a picture with a cell phone camera of the space surrounding his mother after she died.

Paul Williams has lived a full and adventure -filled. Life.  He graduated Harvard Phi Beta Kappa in 1965 and became an accomplished Hollywood film director, dated many beautiful women many of whom became famous in their own right. He was also a devoted son who spent the final weeks of his mom’s life with her in Manhattan. He was there with other family members when she died, on the morning of December 27, 2009.

He watched as the caring women attendants cleaned up his mom’s body and dressed her in her favorite blue shirt. He couldn’t be physical with his mother, so he kept his distance and watched the other prepare his mom for her final journey.

Having been a professional photographer, it was then, an hour and fort-five minutes after she died, that he instinctively grabbed his Blackberry smart phone and snapped a few photos looking above his mother towards the two devoted women and the beautiful, loving expressions on their respective faces as they hovered over her.

A few hours later, he uploaded the pictures to his Macbook laptop, and to his utter amazement, discovered a small–maybe six inches tall, blurry hominoid-like figure just above his mother’s body which had been captured by his cell pone camera.

Williams had taken tens of thousands of photographs in his life, had studied and even taught photography at Harvard.

But nothing prepared him for the image that was before him. The photos clearly showed a small utterly clear, distinct image of a person like entity. One of the women was bothered, even spooked by the images. They couldn’t shake the feeling that something was really weird.

Williams determined that there was no obvious conventional explanation for this small blurry figure. It could not be explained by stray reflections or other well-known optical mechanisms. That much was for certain.

What was in the photos? Was it a picture of his mother’s spirit?

Image of a Spirit is the story of Paul William’s experience as he sought to unravel the mystery of the images. Williams went on a multi-year quest to determine the possible explanations for the captured images.

He shared the photos and sought advice from several Hollywood celebrities and colleagues.

He took the photos to experts for analysis and validation. He researched the possibilities and contacted with people with the highest credentials in the fields of photography, psi research, chemistry and energy science.

He met with Dean Radin, America’s leading scentist  in the field of psi phenomenon investigation. And he met with Loyd Auerbach, author of the classic ghost image referece, the 1996 ESP, Hauntings and Poltergeists.

He gave the photo to Digital Computer Photography expert Professor Harry Farid, in the Image Science Group at Dartmouth College.  Dr. Farid developed with Adobe Corp. (Photoshop) the fool-proof authenticator of digital photos –utilized by courts, the NY Times, and intelligence agencies.   Farid performed the forensic evaluation and verified the authenticity of the photo.

Can a cell phone be used to prove the soul exists?

Brave Teens Share Their Stories in Bullied Kids Speak Out by Jodee Blanco

image001

When Jodee Blanco began a speaking tour of America’s schools twelve years ago, she never imagined the scope of what would happen, the lives she would touch, nor that she’d meet so many brave teens facing intolerance and bullying in their daily lives.

Blanco helped many of them, intervening on their behalf with school administrators, social services and even local police. Their courage and compassion so impressed Blanco, that she decided it was finally time to give them a voice.

In Bullied Kids Speak Out Blanco presents seventeen of the most unforgettable teens she’s encountered in our school system, providing them with a no-holds-barred platform to speak directly to other teens in turmoil, because as Blanco states, “sometimes it takes a kid, and not an adult, no matter how well-intentioned, to reach another kid in pain and get them to do something about it.”

Jodee’s book is a great resource for parents and kids dealing with intolerance or bullying on a daily basis.

I received a copy of this book and I really do think that it is an awesome resource for both parents and kids. I also think it would be great for Teachers and Counselors too. I like how each chapter features a different teen sharing their story about how he or she was bullied and how they find the strength to stand up. I do know that not all children and teenagers can do this and often bullying has very drastic consequences. This book really is a Must-Read for all parents and it is also very helpful that at the ending of each chapter, Blanco gives very helpful advice.

In addition to her books, Blanco’s acclaimed anti-bullying program It’s NOT Just Joking Around!™ has been presented to a combined audience of over five-hundred thousand students, teachers and parents nationwide at the behest of such entities as The United States Department of Interior, The United States Department of Justice, The National Catholic Educational Association, The American School Counselor’s Association, the Illinois Association of School Boards and countless local school districts. It’s NOT Just Joking Around! has also generated hundreds of thousands of dollars in grant awards for schools and organizations coast to coast.   For more information on Blanco visit her website at www.jodeeblanco.com
