A Sneaky Math extra for Pi Day (Math’s only holiday)

The media notes ‘Pi Day’ each year, but only mentions that it has something to do with circles, or that there may be a local pie(!)-eating contest.

Pi Day should be about Making Math Memorable with hands-on activities. Now you can prove Pi yourself in your own hands with your own Sneaky Pi Detector. Grab one free at: – print it, cut it out, and wrap it around a cylindrical item to discover its diameter and circumference all via the magic of Pi.

See more free projects and how-to videos at and share the fun with your friends.

Sneaky Math is a project-based math book and the latest title in the Sneaky Uses for Everyday Things series. Recommended by the National Science Teachers Association, Sneaky Uses for Everyday Things is a nine book science education best-selling series featured in the Los Angeles Times, U.S. News & World Report and on CNN Headline News.

A Different Kind of Safari by Helen Hipp Unique Book Helps Children to Value Themselves and Understand Others

Safari cover

A Different Kind of Safari is a unique book, inspired by a once in a life-time trip led by her father to Africa with her 14 year old special needs son Ray. She has created a very effective way to teach children the value of seeing things as they appear compared to how they really are. She presents the issue of being different than other children in a way that children can relate to and understand – how to find happiness in spite of the challenges everyone faces.

Unique Book Helps Children to Value Themselves and Understand Others

In 2001, Helen Hipp went on a safari in Africa. It was a once in a life time dreams come true trip, led by her father. She went with her 14 year old son Ray, who had special needs.

The trip was particularly memorable, especially when one day, Ray spotted a pod of hippos cooling themselves in the Mara River. Standing separate and apart from the others, was one unusual hippo. She was pink! Ray named her Rosie.

They asked their guide, “why does she appear to be separated from the other hippos? Was it because she was different?” His answer surprised them and the experience became the basis and setting for this book.

A Different Kind of Safari is a heartwarming and powerful book that illustrates how self-awareness, and courage help a young boy named Raymond learn the difference between seeing things as they appear to be and seeing things as they are.

The highlights of 2001 trip are retold through the eyes of a young boy named Ray, with beautiful color illustrations by Hilary Ann Love Glass.

I received a copy of this book and it really is a heartwarming story and love that it truly teaches about self-awareness. This really is a Must-Read for children of all ages!  It is especially recommended for children who feel that they are different from their peers. I feel it also shows that it is “Okay to be different.”

Ozeri Elite Chef Black Ceramic 3-Piece Knife Set My new to-go to Kitchen set!

download (2)

I love this Ozeri Knife set because the knives are so easy to use and they are so lightweight. They have turned quickly into my to-go-to knife set in the kitchen. They easily slice through tomatoes, potatoes and well..basically all veggies. The knives are ceramic so I would not put them in the dishwasher. I suggest only hand washing them. I also like that they are in the 3 sizes. They are very sharp and I do think they may chip easily so I would be careful about dropping them. But, over all, I really like this set and recommend them.

More info:

  • Finished with a re¬flective black veneer, each Ozeri ceramic knife weighs less than half of an equivalent metal knife, thereby reducing fatigue and pain associating with preparing big meals and repetitive cutting.
