Universal CityWalk Races onto the Scene with a Furious 7 Takeover

Universal CityWalk revs up for a turbo-charged takeover with Universal Pictures’ Furious 7, featuring a flurry of activity in support of the film’s April 3 release, including a Fast & Furious movie marathon at the AMC Theatres, an exclusive first-look at Furious 7’s 1967 Camaro and an original costume display, including attire worn by Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson in the new action thriller.

As the choice L.A. destination to see the latest installment in the Fast & Furious film series, Universal CityWalk’s AMC Theatres will jump-start the excitement with advance screenings of Furious 7 starting at select times every seven minutes after the hour beginning on Thursday, April 2.  The AMC Theatres will also bridge the gap to this latest film with an exciting two-day movie marathon at CityWalk, featuring all previous six Fast & Furious films on Tuesday, March 31 and Thursday, April 2.

The non-stop action and charged atmosphere shift into high gear as CityWalk’s state of the art outdoor concert venue, “5 Towers,” celebrates the Furious 7 takeover with a D.J. party spinning songs from the film series’ entire music library, including new sounds from the latest movie soundtrack as part of the opening weekend festivities from Thursday, April 2 through Saturday, April 4.

Universal Studios Hollywood will join in on the takeover as the theme park prepares to introduce its all-original thrill ride “Fast & Furious—Supercharged” on Thursday, June 25.

“Fast & Furious—Supercharged” is a technologically advanced, epic ride that reunites stars from the Fast & Furiousseries in a groundbreaking mega-attraction, conceived as a new installment to the dynamic Fast & Furious films that can only be experienced at The Entertainment Capital of L.A.  Featuring characters made famous by Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson and Luke Evans, “Fast & Furious—Supercharged” will catapult guests into the high-stakes underground world of fast cars in a harrowing escapade—at perceived speeds in excess of 120 miles per hour—to save one of their own from an international crime cartel.

Located within Universal Plaza, a convergence of original Fast & Furious prop cars will be on display for guests and fans of the film series, including Dom’s 1970 Dodger Charger R/T.  The black, V8-powered car first appeared in The Fast and the Furious and has been a mainstay in every action-packed film since. The grey 1970 Plymouth Roadrunner that Dom first drove in The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift will also be on display, along with the 1970 Plymouth Barracuda that belonged to Letty in Fast & Furious 6.  The car display will be available throughout the summer.

New Retailers Headed to The Shops at Mission Viejo

The Shops at Mission Viejo is thrilled to welcome a premier set of new retailers to the center this spring. Windsor Fashions, Brow Arc Dry Bar and LUSH Handmade Cosmetics will bring exciting new offerings for shoppers, with other retailers slated for makeovers.

 

“We are excited about the arrival of new retail options and the positive reception they will inevitably receive from our shoppers,” said Patsy Sanquist, director of marketing and business development at The Shops at Mission Viejo.

 

Windsor Fashions specializes in stylish apparel and accessories for junior and contemporary women. The fashion-forward retailer recently opened its 3,693-square-foot space on the upper level near the Macys Women’s store. Windsor has maintained “a caring vision of shared beauty” since opening in 1937 by creating timeless and modern looks to help every generation feel beautiful.

 

Brow Arc Dry Bar is a sleek salon at which world-class beauty professionals offer the highest-quality threading, henna, makeup, eyelash extensions, waxing, and blow-drying services. The 1,017-square-foot salon is now open on the lower level near Ruby’s Diner.

 

LUSH Handmade Cosmetics will also join the mall’s beauty portfolio this Spring. The eco-friendly brand is known for supporting environmental, humanitarian and animal rights charities through sales of effective hair and skin products made from fresh organic materials, essential oils, and safe synthetics. LUSH will occupy a 708-square-foot space near Center Court.

 

In addition to new retailers, other stores are slated for relocations and upgrades. Talbots is scheduled to relocate to the upper level between Nordstrom and the Apple store later this season. Additionally, Z Gallerie, located on the upper level near Nordstrom, is currently undergoing a remodel with a projected completion date this spring.  

 

Other upcoming renovations on tap are for AVEDA, the MAC Cosmetics store and Steve Madden shoe store.

PBS KIDS’ newest series, ODD SQUAD, proves to be a hit with children and families both on-air and on digital platforms

This January, significant numbers of children and families across the country tuned in to the premiere of “Odd Squad Saves the World,” a special one-hour event from the new PBS KIDS live-action math series, ODD SQUAD. More than 3.7 million viewers* watched the ODD SQUAD kid agents save the day in the new special, which premiered on January 19. That week, “Odd Squad Saves the World” was the top-rated special across all kids’ demographics*.

In addition to the on-air broadcast, families have viewed the program on various digital platforms throughpbskids.org, the PBS KIDS Video App and PBS KIDS on Roku, Apple TV, Chromecast and Amazon Fire TV. During the “Odd Squad Saves the World” special event, there were over 44.5 million** video streams spanning these multiple platforms, while more than 1.7 million** users also visited the ODD SQUAD website. In total, ODD SQUAD saw over 70 million** video streams in the month of January.

“In just a few months since it has premiered, ODD SQUAD has already become a family favorite,” said Lesli Rotenberg, General Manager, Children’s Media, PBS. “ODD SQUAD is a perfect example of the holistic and integrated approach we take to engaging children across multiple platforms. Kids were able to tune in to ODD SQUAD on their local PBS stations and on digital platforms, learning valuable math and collaboration skills as Olive and Otto solved some of their most unusual cases.”

“It is exciting to know that ODD SQUAD is engaging record numbers of children and families through its innovative approaches to math learning,” said Debra Sanchez, Senior vice President of Education, CPB. “CPB and the entire public media system are proud to be partnering with the U.S. Department of Education’s Ready To Learn program in developing media-rich approaches to support early childhood education.”

ODD SQUAD is a live-action series designed to help kids 5-8 build math, problem-solving and collaboration skills. The series focuses on two young agents, Olive and Otto, who are part of Odd Squad, an agency whose mission is to investigate unusual occurrences. A math concept is embedded in each of their cases, as Olive and Otto work together to problem-solve and set things right. ODD SQUAD premiered on PBS KIDS in November 2014 and airs weekdays on PBS stations (check local listings).

ODD SQUAD is created by Tim McKeon (Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends, Adventure Time, The Electric Company) and Adam Peltzman (The Electric CompanyThe Backyardigans, Wallykazam!) and produced by Sinking Ship Entertainment and The Fred Rogers Company.

ODD SQUAD is funded by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) and the U.S. Department of Education through the CPB-PBS Ready To Learn Initiative, a program that supports the development of innovative educational television and digital media targeted to preschool and early elementary school children and their families, especially those from low-income communities.

Jessica Burns (Lexi Ainsworth) is a 16-year-old girl with a secret she’s afraid to share with anyone, except her best friend Brian Slater (Jimmy Bennett). For the past year, she’s been victimized mentally and physically by one of the most popular girls in her class, a former friend named Avery Keller (Hunter King). With Brian’s help and the use of a hidden digital camera, evidence of Avery’s relentless harassment is finally recorded. But as Jessica begins to face her bully, she realizes her pain is stronger than her hope for things to change. When Jessica reaches a critical point and the film crew turns their lens toward the teen’s incident, Avery’s veil lifts during the documentation— revealing there truly are two sides to every story.

 

Written and directed by Amy S. Weber, A GIRL LIKE HER is a poignant feature film that takes a realistic, inside look at bullying through the eyes of both the bully and the victim.
