Zebra Mosaic Made Entirely of Jelly Belly Jelly Beans Created Live at LA Zoo Mar 28-29

Other Weekend Highlights for Guests Include Visits to L.A. Zoo Newborns,
Close-Up Animal Encounters, Feedings and Talks,
and Shutterfly Promo Card Giveaway!

Jelly Belly artist in residence Kristen Cumings brings a Los Angeles Zoo Grevy’s zebra to life in an artwork image made entirely of more than 10,000 Jelly Belly jelly beans as guests observe her every move  on Saturday, March 28 and Sunday, March 29, 2015, 10 am to 4 pm, at the Los Angeles Zoo and Botanical Gardens.  Once complete, the 4×5-foot jelly bean mosaic becomes part of the Jelly Belly Endangered Species Bean Art traveling collection, which tours the country for display at museums and through animal conservation programs and includes images of a Bengal tiger, a hawksbill turtle and rockhopper penguins.  Lest guests feel tempted to grab a handful from Cumings’ palette, “Kids Mix” sample packets of Jelly Belly jelly beans will be distributed throughout the weekend, including popular flavors such as Very Cherry and Watermelon, while supplies last.

Speaking of sweet, LA Zoo visitors can also check out the adorable newborns now at the Zoo, including baby chimps, otters, hippo and giraffe, as well as popular exhibits like Rainforest of the Americas, the LAIR (Living Amphibians, Invertebrates, and Reptiles), Elephants of Asia, Campo Gorilla Reserve, and the Tom Mankiewicz Conservation Carousel.  Close-up encounters, feedings and talks throughout the Zoo are featured on a regular basis, among them the ELEPHANTS OF ASIA training demonstration, popular WORLD OF BIRDS SHOW, MARSUPIAL TALK (Sunday only), HAWK TRAINING DEMONSTRATION, and more.  Schedule, subject to weather and other changes, available at Zoo entrance and online.

Every day through June 30, visitors to the L.A. Zoo can enjoy an added treat: a Shutterfly promo card for a free, easy-to-make 8×10″ hardcover photo book to use to capture their adventures.  The promo card, courtesy of Shutterfly, is available at the admissions window when purchasing tickets or at the membership entrance.  Limit one per household.

The landmark LOS ANGELES ZOO AND BOTANICAL GARDENS, drawing 1.6 million visitors each year, is home to a diverse collection of 1,100 animals representing 250 different species, many of which are rare or endangered.  Its lush grounds on 113 acres feature a botanical collection comprising over 800 different plant species with approximately 7,000 individual plants.  Accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA), whose members meet rigorous professional standards for animal welfare, the Zoo has achieved renown as an international leader in the preservation of endangered species and a conservation center for the care and study of wildlife.  Among its most popular habitats are the LAIR (Living Amphibians, Invertebrates, and Reptiles), Elephants of Asia, Campo Gorilla Reserve and Rainforest of the Americas.  The private, non-profit Greater Los Angeles Zoo Association (GLAZA), which has supported the Zoo in partnership with the City of Los Angeles for more than five decades and provides funding for and operates seven essential Zoo departments, has 65,000 member households representing more than 240,000 adults and children.  As evidence of the Zoo’s popularity, GLAZA attracts one of the largest membership bases of any cultural organization in Los Angeles.

20150221_161618

Looking for a gift to show someone you care? Maybe you want to tell your child “Way to go!” I imagine they like candy. I know my son does! I recently found out about a website called INSTACANDI and it is a great way to send someone special candy. I like how simple it is to order on their website. You simply go to their website and think of who you want to send a special bag of candy to. In my case, I sent it to my son. Then you select a package and I love that you can also include a message. It’s easy, fun and shipping is really quick too! I really like that it arrived in a colorful padded envelope so the candy did not arrive all squashed or broken. I also like that there is a variety of different candy from Reese’s peanut butter cups to Sour candies. The INSTACANDI is in a nice clear package and even included confetti! Now, how cool is that?! It’s affordable too at $9.99 per package including shipping.  Perfect for any occasion and especially holidays!

Dunkin’ Donuts, America’s all-day, everyday stop for coffee and baked goods, is bringing its first Inland Empire location to the residents of Upland. Located at 352 South Mountain Avenue, the restaurant will open at 4:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 10, and attendees will enjoy a free medium hot or iced coffee promotion for the first 24 hours. This new location will provide Inland Empire residents with Dunkin’ Donuts’ iconic offerings from freshly brewed coffee to delicious baked goods.

As part of the opening day festivities, the first 100 people in line will receive a Dunkin’ Donuts tote bag filled with special items and the first person in both the walk-in and drive-thru lines will be rewarded with free coffee for one year. “We’re very proud to commemorate our first 2015 California opening with the introduction of our Upland restaurant,” said Monica Apodaca, Senior Field Marketing Manager, Dunkin’ Brands. “We’re confident that this new location will be the Inland Empire’s go-to destination for coffee, lattes, frozen beverages, sandwiches and baked goods.”

Local city dignitaries will be in attendance to commence the ceremonial grand opening ribbon cutting and welcome Dunkin’ Donuts to the neighborhood. The opening ceremony will also include a check presentation to Steven’s Hope for Children, a local non-profit organization that helps families of seriously ill or injured children by providing assistance to lessen the burden of the families. In alignment with Dunkin’ Donuts’ goal to support children’s health in America’s communities, the restaurant will donate $1,000 to further the organization’s local efforts.

The Upland franchise will be operated by new franchisee, Batter Boys, Inc., owned by Southern California residents Jeff Shady and Jordon DiBiase. The pair has plans to develop seven additional standalone restaurants in the North Inland Empire.

“We have had the chance to witness the outpouring of enthusiasm surrounding the recent Dunkin’ Donuts openings in Southern California, and we feel privileged to bring the same excitement to the residents of Upland,” said Dunkin’ Donuts franchisee Jeff Shady. “We believe Dunkin’ Donuts will soon become a staple in the Inland Empire community because of its commitment to fast and friendly service while providing guests with high-quality food and beverages day in and day out.”
