The Shops at Montebello is encouraging local area schools to celebrate the arts with the launch of its “Music for Montebello” Performing Arts Program this May.

The Shops at Montebello will provide $250 “gift card grants” to local schools for each musical, dance and theatre performance held at the center, as a way to support arts education in the community. Schools may perform up to four unique times at The Shops at Montebello during the program.

“It is important to The Shops at Montebello to be involved in supporting our surrounding community,” said Marida Petitjean, Director of Marketing and Business Development at The Shops at Montebello. “Arts education plays a significant role in inspiring creativity and developing vital communities, and The Shops at Montebello is proud to support it in any way we can.”

Applications will be available at the Guest Services booth, located in Center Court, beginning Monday, May 12.  In-mall performances will be booked between June 14 and December 21, based on a first-come, first-served basis.

Time 4 Learning

t4l_button

I’ve found a really cool curriculum that is affordable and fun for kids! What I like best about it is that there can be different grade levels for the different subjects. My son has already completed the 5th grade History this year and so we were able to check out the 6th grade History. This is idea for homeschool. There are different learning videos for each of the subjects and I like that there are quizzes, tests and you can even keep student records online. I like the flexibility of learning this way and not being tied down to just doing school this way. This is good as a curriculum but I like using it as a supplement and it is very helpful as a resource for homeschool parents.

I’ve been invited to try Time4Learning for one month in exchange for a candid review. My opinion is entirely my own. Time4Learning can be used as a homeschool curriculum, for afterschool enrichment and for summer skill sharpening. Find out how to write your own curriculum review for Time4Learning. Edie Carey & Sarah Sample ‘Til The Morning

'TIL THE MORNING Cover Art 72 dpi

Award-winning singer/songwriters, friends, and fellow travelers on the path of motherhood — Edie Carey of Chicago and Sarah Sample of Salt Lake City — weave their distinctive and yet perfectly blended voices to create an intimate, harmony laden collection, ‘Til The Morning: Lullabies and Songs of Comfort.

In 2010, after releasing her third album and having her second child,Sarah Sample realized that most of her music-making at home involved singing to her children.  It felt only natural that her next record should embrace the music that was at the core of her motherhood experience.  At this time, her friend Edie Carey was in the throes of a two-year struggle with infertiity following a near-fatal experience while on tour.  Sarah soon became one of Edie’s main sources of support, and their friendship deepened.

Edie welcomed a son in 2012 (thanks to winning a $16K IVF cycle at a raffle!), and soon the two friends began hatching plans to make Sarah’s idea come true.  They wanted to not only honor the quiet moments between parent and child, but also to pay tribute to the struggles of infertility, recognizing the circuitous and painful journey many people must travel to become parents. ‘Til The Morning carries a message of love, comfort, and solace for any listener.

‘Til the Morning opens with a cover of the Dixie Chicks’ “Lullaby,” which sets lyrics of maternal love and devotion in a texture of cascading vocal and instrumental lines and features guest performer Mai Bloomfield (of Raining Jane and Jason Mraz) contributing the golden sound of her cello and ethereal harmonies.  An exquisite treatment of Wilco’s “California Stars” follows, bringing out the elegance of its mesmerizing harmonic progression.  Other highlights include the beloved perennial, “Turn Around,” the familiar hymn “Softly and Tenderly” (with lyrics modified to reference “Mama” and “children”), Townes Van Zandt’s treasured song “If I Needed You,” and “La La Lu,” the famous lullaby sung by Peggy Lee in Walt Disney’s Lady and the Tramp.

Paste Magazine wrote, “Edie Carey is gifted with one of those voices that could sound great singing anything.”  Edie Carey is known for her unmistakable soulful voice and intelligent, heart-grabbing songs, but perhaps most especially for her warm, engaging presence on — and off — stage. Edie has been performing across the US, Canada, and the UK since 1999.  Her seventh album, Bring the Sea (2010), as well as her previous two records, was funded entirely by her loyal and steadily growing legion of fans.

According to Salt Lake City Weekly, “Sarah Sample’s raw, graceful voice … enhances lyrical content that cuts to the bone.”  Three albums, an EP, and years of touring into her career, Sarah Sample proves she’s no trend-chasing flash in the pan.  Sarah has played the Rocky Mountain Folks Fest mainstage, sung on the Cayamo Cruise, won first place in the AYL Singer/Songwriter Awards, and was a finalist at Kerrville and Telluride.

We received a CD to review and I love the songs! This will be a Must-Have for New Moms and baby when it is released in June.

‘Til The Morning will be available at www.ediecarey.com,www.sarahsample.comamazon.com, CDBaby.com, iTunes, Bandcamp, and other related digital outlets.

Mom’s Night Out – Hilarious and Heartwarming

Don’t take this film too seriously! I’m sure most moms will relate to this larger than life tale about Allyson and her mom friends who just want a night out on their own – a peaceful, grown-up evening of dinner and fun. It’s a set-up, right. We all know that there is sure to be a piper who needs to be paid in order for this group of young mothers to enjoy high heels, adult conversation and food not served in a bag. When the husbands are given the task of watching the kids for a few hours, it’s a warming that something just might go askew. Fourteen-year-old Brianna B. loved this movie and comments, “It has real life situations that I’m sure a lot of Moms can relate to. They probably relate to the pain of struggling to be the perfect parent.” Her full review is below.

Mom’s Night Out

Reviewed by Brianna Hope Beaton, KIDS FIRST! Film Critic, age 14.

Mom’s Night Out is a heartwarming and hilarious film that is great for the whole family.

Allyson (Sarah Drew) wants to have a night on the town with her friends. She wants to enjoy grown up stuff and have adult conversations. However, in order for this to happen, their husbands must watch the kids for a few hours and take care of everything at home. This should be easy enough, right?  Wrong!  All kinds of things happen which shows that a Mom’s job is extremely important. Mom’s Night Out is a little snapshot of the parenting journey.

I love this movie! It has real life situations that I’m sure a lot of Moms can relate to. They probably relate to the pain of struggling to be the perfect parent. The cast is so talented and their acting is so natural and real. The chemistry between them is great with the way they feed off of each other. They take this story and make it so believably funny and have you laughing out loud. I like the action sequences as it keeps your interest and it adds to the humor. My favorite character is the Cabbie (David Hunt) because the things he says makes no sense at all but cracked me up. Also, he is able to actually pull off an English accent although he is not from England. My favorite scene is when the ladies go to the Tattoo Parlor looking for the Baby and speak to the Desk Guy (Manwell Reyes). The ladies are hysterical and anxious but he is so cool and calm. He acts like he doesn’t have a care in the world.

Andrew and Jon Erwin (October Baby) both direct this hilarious yet gratifying film. The comedy, action sequences and the genuine portrayal of the characters make it an enjoyable film. I like it when some of the words of wisdom come from the least likely person that you would imagine and it really touches your heart.

There are many messages about a mother’s job in this film but, I like the unconditional love message. A mom’s job is very important and, although she can take the place of others, no one can ever take her place.
I recommend this film for ages 6 to 18 and all the mom’s who need a night out. This comedy is rated PG with no inappropriate language and is suitable for the whole family to see. I give it 5 out of 5 stars.

Give your Mom an extra treat and take her to see Mom’s Night Out. It comes out in theaters on May 9th just in time for Mother’s Day weekend.

Melitta Coffee for Mother’s Day!

Melitta Café de Europa™ Single Serve Gourmet Coffee (cup)    Melitta Café de Europa™ Single Serve Gourmet Coffee (box)

I don’t know if you drink coffee but it is a morning must-have for me! I only need one cup but I do love my coffee! I also love my Keurig Coffee maker. But, I have just discovered a brand of coffee that I haven’t tried yet. It is also available for the Keurig Brewer. This is a Must-Have for Mother’s Day morning and every day!

Designed with the environment in mind, Melitta recently launched its own line of eco-friendly and 100% recyclable single-serve cups for Keurig-style machines* – Melitta’s Café de Europa Gourmet Coffee. Unique to the category, consumers can actually see and smell their coffee from the moment they remove the cup from its individually sealed freshness pack. With this new single-serve option, coffee enthusiasts no longer have to choose between quality and convenience. Each cup is made with a filter, and upon brewing, water fully saturates the grinds for a bold, flavorful cup of coffee. MSRP: $9.49 (12 count box). I received a couple of samples and I really love this coffee! It is bold but not too strong and it really smells and tastes great!

Additionally, the brand offers several other eco-friendly options for use in most Keurig-style brewers*:

  • The Melitta JavaJig features 2 reusable capsules, with 30 paper filters. Simply choose a favorite coffee or tea and adjust fill levels to taste. Once done brewing, simply remove and dispose of the paper filter, rinse and reuse. MSRP: $8.99; available at most major retailers and online at Melitta.com and Amazon.com.
  • The Melitta E-Filter features 5 reusable filters, each designed to last up to 20 uses per filter. Simply choose a favorite coffee or tea and adjust fill levels to taste. Once done brewing, simply remove, rinse and reuse. MSRP: $8.99; available at most major retailers and online at Melitta.com and Amazon.com.

I received samples of the Melitta E-Filter and I love these! I have tried other types and it seems like the coffee grinds end up in my cup but not with these. They are easy to use and also super easy to clean!

* Melitta’s single-serve products work in most Keurig-style brewers, except the Keurig VUE® brewing system.

Make fond memories at Panera Bread this Mother’s Day!

panera

Looking for the perfect place to go for Breakfast, Brunch or Lunch this Mother’s Day? Panera Bread is the place to go! I have to admit that I have only been there in the past for the bagels. But, I had the opportunity today to go there (Torrance location) to experience more than my favorite bagels.  I tried the Egg White, Avocado & Spinach Breakfast Power Sandwich and it is sooo good! Egg whites, slice of Vermont White Cheddar, fresh avocado, fresh baby spinach and tomato on a sprouted grain bagel flat…it was simply delicious!

My son prefers their chocolate chip bagels with cream cheese. I think I have already said I love their bagels! They also have Baseball Shortbread Cookies that children (and grownups) will love! My son had to have one of these to go! Panera Bread does have a great menu with Soups, Sandwiches, Salads, Pasta and more. There really is something for everyone. I admit I had to go off my diet a bit and get the Cinnamon Crunch Scone to go! It is so good with cinnamon chips, cinnamon crunch and a white icing glaze! But, my ultimate favorite is the Strawberry Poppyseed & Chicken Salad! This is just delicious! It has chicken, romaine lettuce, fresh strawberries, blueberries, pineapple, mandarin oranges and pecans with fat-free poppyseed dressing. It’s just too good to be a salad!

I really also need to point out that you really should join the MyPanera Rewards. I just joined online prior to my visit and you really do earn rewards. I received a complimentary bakery item and a Frozen Caramel Smoothie drink because I had signed up. It’s really a great reward program! You can sign up online by visiting their website. You can also see their menu and find locations near you. I highly recommend Panera Bread for Mother’s Day!
