We’ll Always Have Paris: A Mother/Daughter Adventure By Jennifer Coburn

New Memoir Chronicles Mother-Daughter Adventures through Europe

Journey Reveals How to Let Go of Fear and Truly Live

Jennifer Coburn has been looking in the rearview mirror expecting to see the Grim Reaper for the last 20 years—ever since she lost her father to lung cancer when she was just 19.

When she became a mom herself, Coburn vowed to jam-pack her daughter Katie’s mental scrapbook with beautiful memories…starting in Paris.

In her forthcoming memoir, We’ll Always Have Paris: A Mother/Daughter Adventure (ISBN: 9781402288630; April 8, 2014; $14.99 U.S.; Memoir; Trade Paper), Coburn shares details of their summer travels through Europe, one city at a time, united by their desire to see the world and spend precious time together.

Even though her husband can’t join them, even though she’s nervous about venturing overseas, and even though she’s perfectly healthy and not actually dying, Coburn decides to leave the bathroom and kitchen repairs for another day, and invest in building memories with her daughter.

Their journey begins in Paris when Katie is 8, and ends in Paris in 2013, when Katie is 16, after taking monthlong trips to more than a dozen European (including Paris, London, Rome, Salerno, Florence, Venice, Madrid, Seville, Granada, Barcelona, and Amsterdam).

Whether they are sleeping at Shakespeare and Company Booksellers in Paris, singing Korean folk songs at the Alhambra, playing charades with the locals in Pompeii, or visiting the Salvador Dalí Triangle in Spain, this is the story of how one mother lets go of the fear of death—and how her daughter teaches her to enjoy life.

I received this book to review and I simply found it a breath of fresh air! It’s a story that Moms can relate to even if they have a son instead of a daughter. I don’t have a daughter but  I could relate to this wonderful story and it has an important message of letting go of fears and enjoying life. Something most Moms learn along the way. I loved following the adventures of Katie and her mother and it’s a heartwarming story filled with adventure and humor! One of the best books I have read in a long time!

Jennifer Coburn is a USA Today bestselling author of six novels and contributor to four literary anthologies. Over the past two decades, Coburn has received numerous awards from the Press Club and Society for Professional Journalists for articles that appeared in Mothering, Big Apple Baby, The Miami Herald, The San Diego Union-Tribune, and dozens of national and regional publications. She has also written for, Creators News Syndicate, and The Huffington Post. Coburn lives in San Diego with her husband, William, and their daughter, Katie. We’ll Always Have Paris is her first memoir.

Dorothy’s only just returned home from her first incredible journey to Oz, but she’s already being called back for another adventure! After waking to post-tornado Kansas, Dorothy (Lea Michele) and Toto are whisked to Oz on a magical rainbow mover sent by their old friends the Scarecrow (Dan Aykroyd), the Lion (Jim Belushi) and the Tin Man (Kelsey Grammer). Time in Oz has passed much faster than back in Kansas, and Dorothy discovers that the Jester (Martin Short) – the devious brother of the Wicked Witch of the West – is taking Oz over one region at a time, holding their leaders captive and casting a pall of darkness over the beloved land. Even Glinda (Bernadette Peters) is unable to combat the Jester’s evil powers, making Dorothy their only hope.

When she arrives in Oz, Dorothy’s plan is to travel to the Emerald City to reunite with her old friends and join forces with them to stop the Jester. However, the yellow brick road isn’t quite as easy to follow this time around, especially with the Jester planting tricky detours to lead her astray, so she enlists the help of Wiser the owl (Oliver Platt), Marshal Mallow (Hugh Dancy), China Princess (Megan Hilty) and Tugg the tugboat (Patrick Stewart) to help find her way.

Dorothy is grateful for the support of her new friends, but when she realizes that having them by her side means putting them all in grave danger, she has to decide whether to continue to accept their assistance or forge the road alone. But with the future of Oz at stake, it’s going to take as much heart, brain and courage as they can collectively muster to defeat the Jester and return order and happiness to the Emerald City.

Cubebot by AREAWARE More than just a toy!

photo (5)

Robot Toys are usually made of plastic and require batteries. Not this one! Inspired by Japanese Shinto Kumi-ki puzzles, the Cubebot is a non-traditional take on the toy robot, Cubebot’s powerful hardwood frame can hold dozens poses, and his elastic-band muscles and durable wood limbs make him impervious to breakage. What is really cool is that when it’s time for him to rest, he folds into a perfect cube. An enduring classic that will withstand generations of play. Comes in Micro, Small, Medium and XL. Recommended for ages 3+. Cubebot is available in many different colors. We received the Multi and my son loves all the different colors. I added this to my son’s Easter Basket last week earlier this month and it was one of his favorite things! Yes, even over the BIG chocolate bunny! My son has a lot of energy and this is also a great toy for nervous energy. My son simply just puts Cubebot in different poses. Cubebot really is more than just a toy! Mother’s Day Gifts That Can Save Lives Symbolic “Rescue Gifts” from the International Rescue Committee

On Thursday, April 24, just in time for Mother’s Day, the International Rescue Committee launcedh its collection of charitable “Rescue Gifts,” symbolic gifts that can have real impact on the lives of refugee mothers and their families living in the midst of conflict or natural disaster in places like Syria, the Central African Republic and the Philippines.

Gift options like a safe delivery ($24) can ensure critical supplies and assistance to help make childbirth safer — and happier — for both mother and baby, and maternal health care ($52) can provide a mother-to-be in places like Kenya with the advice, medical assistance and other support she needs to keep herself and her baby healthy.  In a country like Afghanistan, $56 can send a young girl to school for a year and give her the chance of a better life.

The IRC’s “Rescue Gifts” are perfect for the socially conscious or eco-friendly mom in your life, and even for the last-minuteshopper who wants to send an eCard on Mother’s Day itself.  Celebrity watchers who want to give back can shop the favorite gift collections of the IRC Voices, including Morena BaccarinRashida JonesJohn LegendJencarlos Canela andSarah Wayne Callies.  Morena, a new mom herself, has chosen gifts that are all focused on supporting mothers and empowering women and girls in some of the world’s worst conflict zones.

Ingrid & Isabel, a maternity apparel company, will match all “Rescue Gift” purchases to the IRC up to $30,000 as part of the IRC’s Mother’s Day campaign.  There are more than three dozen gift options at varying prices.  The recipient of each “Rescue Gift” will receive a personalized printed card or an eCard describing the gift and how it will impact the lives of some of the world’s most vulnerable people.
