Kona, July 1st Pet of the Week!

We can’t remember seeing such a hangdog look in ages. Kona is one of three American bulldog mixes who came to our shelter a couple of days ago because of housing problems for their owners. Kona was shy and scared when this picture was taken, but it turns out that she loves going for walks with our volunteers and all the attention she gets from them. Can you turn the rest of her smile right-side up? Our shelter’s adoptions are conducted through appointment only, so call 562-570-PETS or email PetAdopt@longbeach.gov to meet Kona. Ask for ID#A567243.

Smitty, June 17th Pet of the Week!

Smitty’s long, pink tongue is hanging out in anticipation of a cool bowl of water he can call his own and a face he can lick that belongs to a human he can call his own! Smitty’s a Lab/pit bull mix who’s 90 pounds light and just 2 years old. He’s young, big and energetic, and he’s ready to lap up a good life in a loving home! Ella, June 10th Pet of the Week!

Ella looks like the kid who sat next to you in third grade who said things like “Teacher! Teacher! Let me empty the pencil sharpener! I’ll do it! I’ll do it!” And yes, Ella is an eager girl who loves to walk on leash and be your buddy. She’s 8 years old and weighs 50 pounds, which shelter staff said is mostly in her legs. She’s potty trained and crate trained as well and would work best as the only pet in an adults-only home. Ella was surrendered by her owner and wants so badly to be teacher’s pet again. Adoptions are now conducted through appointment only, so call 562-570-PETS or email PetAdopt@longbeach.gov to meet Ella. Ask for ID#A657478.

Wankershim, June 3rd Pet of the Week!

Wankershim was found abandoned in Wardlow Park, left to fend for himself. Luckily, he’s under the loving care of shelter staff and employees. Like his “Bravest Warriors” namesake, Wankershim needs the power of the emotions of some superbeing—you, possibly—to bring him to awareness of his special catness and expand with joy! He’s neutered and is only 4 years old, so there’s plenty of time for him to take over your home. Shelter adoptions are conducted through appointment, so contact PetAdopt@longbeach.gov to meet Wankershim. Ask for ID A657891.

Diana Iris, May 27th Pet of the Week!

Diana Iris—such a lovely name for a springtime flower! This spunky little girl was found tied up outside a restaurant. It must have been miserable for her to not only smell the food but also be abandoned by her people. Diana Iris wants to go home with a fun family who’ll be there for all seasons, dine on restaurant patios with her, and of course, bring home doggie bags! Adoptions are conducted through appointment only, so call 562-570-PETS or email PetAdopt@longbeach.gov to meet Diana Iris. Ask for ID#A657003.

Pepper, May 20th Pet of the Week!

Pepper’s big smile is diminished by the sad look in her beautiful, brown eyes. At 5 years old, this spayed pointer mix was turned in to the shelter by his owner. Pepper probably misses the children she lived with, and she has separation anxiety as well. She’s an overall good doggie but needs to be in a home with someone present all the time. Our shelter’s adoptions are conducted through appointment only, so call 562-570-PETS or email PetAdopt@longbeach.gov to meet Pepper. Ask for ID#A653096.

Koi, May 13th Pet of the Week!

Koi doesn’t necessarily want to be the only fish in your pond—she gets along swimmingly with other large dogs (we’re not sure about little dogs or cats, though). This 7-month-old shepherd mix is on the small side for her breed, and she’s also proven herself to be an escape artist, so she’ll need a home that’s secure in more ways than just the unconditional love! Cast your net for Koi—adoptions are conducted through appointment, so call 562-570-PETS or email PetAdopt@longbeach.gov to meet Koi. Ask for ID#A655954.
