Kai, Oct. 27th Pet of the Week

As you can tell by the photo, Kai doesn’t need Halloween candy to get his energy up (and don’t give any candy to him or any dog! Bad for them!) Kai is about 3 years old, and shelter staff and volunteers think he’s a shepherd mix. He’s high energy and needs lots of exercise, but he calms down just fine afterward. You’ll need to keep him secure, though, because the shelter was told that he can jump fences. He’s smart enough to find your car keys and head down to the meat refrigerator at the supermarket. Kai is a loving fellow and needs someone who’s experienced with enthusiastic large breeds and can teach him manners. He’s strong in body and strong in heart! Adoptions are now conducted through appointment only, so call 562-570-PETS or email PetAdopt@longbeach.gov to meet Kai. Ask for ID#A660880.

Sunshine, Oct. 21st Pet of the Week!

In the autumn of her life, Sunshine needs a soft, forever lap to warm and a home that fits her name and personality. She’s 15 years old and, although she was surrendered to a shelter, volunteers say that she hasn’t had a single mean thought. She beckons you with her call from the kennel, gives you sweet little paw taps, and is tolerant of other cats. Sunshine had some dental problems but they’ve all been attended to. She’s a survivor through and through, fit enough for any TV reality series, but she’d be so much better off in the privacy of a forever home. Shelter adoptions are conducted through appointment, so contact PetAdopt@longbeach.gov to meet Sunshine. Ask for ID#A664212.

Kitter, Oct. 13th Pet of the Week!

Legend has it that a black cat, long the symbol of Halloween, once toted the sun on her back, which left its pattern on the cat’s back. Yes—her back—most torties are female, and this one’s ready to live the rest of her sunny golden years with you. Kitter is 11 years old and has learned many myths and stories during her days on earth. She’ll share them with you as she sits purring on your lap. Kitter is losing weight because shelter life doesn’t agree with her—she needs a loving home to match her sweet personality. Sun or no sun, shelter volunteers and staff love her to the moon, and so will you. Shelter adoptions are conducted through appointment, so contact PetAdopt@longbeach.gov to meet Kitter. Ask for ID#A657733.

Scone and Bonnie Blue, Oct. 7th Pets of the Week!

Scone (left) and Bonnie Blue (right) are a bonded pair of lap kitties, but it took them a little while to get into the cuddle zone. Even though they were only 2 months old when they got here, they were very shy, and potential adopters overlooked them. They’re 5 months old now, and the difference is wonderful—they’re super-soft, super-sweet little cats without a mean bone in either body. They’ll fit beautifully into one lap. How about yours? Adoptions are made through appointment only, so email PetAdopt@longbeach.gov to meet Scone and Bonnie Blue. Ask for ID#A658270.

Jacob, Sept. 30th Pet of the Week

Jacob is a beautiful, 6-year-old brown-and-beige Himalayan kitty, affectionate and chill. Him a-layin’ down at the moment, ready to go to sleep and dream about his forever home with humans who want badly to tend to his every whim and need. One of Jacob’s needs is managing his diabetes, which, with care, can give him good life quality. Adoptions are made through appointment only, so email PetAdopt@longbeach.gov to meet Jacob. Ask for ID#A658270.

Lucas, Sept. 23rd Pet of the Week!

Lucas knows that it’s impolite to talk with his mouth full, but if the playful little guy could bring himself to drop that stuffed whatever-it-is for 10 seconds, he’d tell you that at two years old, he has plenty of play in him for years to come and that he’d like to share all of it in a loving home! Lucas is a 2-year-old kelpie or mix thereof and is a great shelter favorite. Besides that little stuffie, he says that his best buds are Mr. Tennis Ball, Mr. Bouncy-Ball and, of course, the volunteers. He’s ready to make brand-new forever friends! Our shelter’s adoptions are conducted through appointment only, so call 562-570-PETS or email PetAdopt@longbeach.gov to meet Lucas. Ask for ID#A657334.

Kids ‘N’ Pets is a product you will want to try!

If you have kids and pets you must have an instant all-purpose stain and odor remover on hand! It also needs to be safe to use around kids and pets. My favorite is Kids ‘N’ Pets because it is non-toxic, cruelty free and biodegradable. I can safely use it around my pets. I also like that it is safe to use on so many different surfaces. I just recently tried it in my car and was amazed at how well it works.

A dog and two cats are special members of our family and Kids ‘N’ Pets is definitely a product that I have used many times. I also discovered that it is wonderful at getting dog smells out of blankets. I simply added 1 cup to a load of laundry and washed the blanket as usual.

Kids ‘N’ Pets can also be used to clean and deodorize Kitty litter boxes. I continue to use this and am happy at how well it works. I was also happy that my cats used the litter box after. Sometimes they can be quite picky about smells.

This stain and odor remover has quickly become one of my favorite cleaning products and I will continue to use it! You can find it here.

Self Disclosure: I am participating in the Kids ‘n’ Pets Ambassador program and received free samples/compensation to post. Photo Credit: SoCal City Kids.

Happy, Sept. 16th Pet of the Week!

This sweet, 12-year-old Korean Jindo is named Happy, but she’s the stoic and reserved kind of happy. She’s certainly a lot happier than she was when she came to our shelter—she had a mammary mass, and thankfully, it was successfully removed. Happy has come around—she’s still a bit cautious, but if you put no pressure on her, she’ll come right up to you for some treats and cuddles. If you have empathy for a senior and can give her some truly golden years, consider making both Happy and yourself happy! Long Beach Animal Care Services’ adoptions are conducted through appointment only, so call (562) 570-PETS or email PetAdopt@longbeach.gov to meet Happy. Ask for ID#A592389.
