No Time to Die * Danger, Romance, Sadness, Violence, And A Shocking Reveal

In No Time To Die, Bond has left active service and is enjoying a tranquil life in Jamaica. His peace is short-lived when his old friend Felix Leiter from the CIA turns up asking for help. The mission to rescue a kidnapped scientist turns out to be far more treacherous than expected, leading Bond onto the trail of a mysterious villain armed with dangerous new technology. KIDS FIRST! Film Critic Ethan P. comments, “No Time to Die certainly kept me on the edge of my seat for the entire two hours and forty three minutes. This movie has a combination of danger, romance, sadness, humor and a lot of action and violence, but most importantly, it shocks the audience by revealing a secret hidden from James Bond.” See his full review below.

No Time to Die certainly kept me on the edge of my seat for the entire two hours and forty three minutes. This movie has a combination of danger, romance, sadness, humor and a lot of action and violence, but most importantly, it shocks the audience by revealing a secret hidden from James Bond.

No Time to Die is about agent 007, James Bond (Daniel Craig) who, after a peaceful five years of retirement, comes back to complete a mission, rescuing a Russian scientist who created a powerful weapon out of DNA. During Bond’s mission rescuing this scientist, he finds out his number 007 has been assigned to another agent, a woman. He also finds out his wife’s secrets and he meets Safin (Rami Malek), a villain who uses the Russian scientist to create dangerous technology. My favorite part is when the female 007, Nomi (Lashana Lynch) tries to compete with Bond on the rescue mission.

This film has a lot of dangerous action. The majority of the scenes include explosives that will make the audience jump out of their seats. The stunts are amazing. The wardrobe is very classy and elegant. The female roles are very important in this movie. Bond’s wife is Madeleine (Léa Seydoux) who, at a young age had to fire a gun in order to protect herself. Paloma (Ana de Armas) is a Cuban agent who helped Bond with his mission. Nomi is very proud of her number 007 and does not want to give it back to Bond. Watching these women in action is amusing as well.

The moral of this film is to trust the ones you love. James Bond didn’t trust his wife and he lost five years of his life without her that he can never recover ever again. Be forewarned that this movie has a lot of gory scenes and violence, but it does have a PG-13 rating.

I give No Time To Die 5 out of 5 stars and recommend it for ages 13 and 18, plus adults.
This film opens in theatres October 8, 2021. What are your thoughts about agent 007 being a woman? Drop your comments below and stay tuned for more reviews.

Just Beyond Is So Thrilling! Just Right Amount Of Scary, Unusual And Supernatural.

Inspired by the writings of R.L. Stine, “Just Beyond” is an eight-episode anthology series that tells astonishing and thought-provoking stories of a reality just beyond the one we know. Each episode introduces viewers to a new cast of characters who must go on a surprising journey of self-discovery in a supernatural world of witches, aliens, ghosts and parallel universes. Stine, prolific author of young-adult horror fiction, including the “Goosebumps” and “Fear Street” series, has been scaring readers worldwide for over 35 years. The show’s creators referenced his popular page-turners while developing their new series of hair-raising stories. Episodes acknowledge teenage struggles, such as bullying, peer pressure and anxiety, through supernatural storylines that will keep viewers on the edge of their seats. KIDS FIRST! Film Critic Katherine S. comments, “Just Beyond is so thrilling! It has the just right amount of scary, unusual and supernatural. All of the storylines are so different and keep you wanting more.” See her full review below.

Just Beyond

By Katherine S, KIDS FIRST! Film Critic, age 13

Just Beyond is so thrilling! It has the just right amount of scary, unusual and supernatural. All of the storylines are so different and keep you wanting more.

Just Beyond has eight episodes running about 30 minutes, each with a unique storyline. Episodes include “Parents Are From Mars, Kids Are From Venus,” “Which Witch,” “My Monster,” “We’ve Got Spirits, Yes We Do,” “Standing Up for Yourself” and “The Treehouse.”

This live action anthology seriesis loosely based on the graphic novel series by R.L. Stine, also titled “Just Beyond,” so fans of the series, or any R.L. Stine story should love the show. The costume design, especially for “Which Witch” and “My Monster” are incredible; Luna’s outfits are perfect for her character and the monster looks super realistic. And sometimes, the costumes even give references to past R.L. Stine work. The music is very fitting as it is eerie and gives you the chills as you listen. The cinematography really adds to the storyline, as there are so many unique angles and points of view. This show has some very talented young actors, such as McKenna Grace, who plays Veronica, Lexi Underwood as Ella, Cedric Joe plays Sam, Gabriel Bateman as Jack and Megan Scott who plays Olivia. I loved all the episodes, but my favorite is “Leave Them Kids Alone,” because it just could happen.

The messages vary from episode to episode, but what stands out are: embracing uniqueness, not letting fear get the better of you and it matters more about what’s inside than outside. Some of the episodes contain scary parts that young kids might find frightening.

I give Just Beyond 5 out of 5 stars and recommend it for ages 11 to 18, plus adults. This show begins streaming on Disney+ October 13, 2021.

Book of the week: Sandra Boynton’s Enchanting, New Tale: Woodland Dance!

Woodland Dance! invites us to an enchanting, midnight gathering of woodland creatures as they heed the call of the fox’s bugle to dance in a moonlit glade.  Boynton brings her signature illustrations and lyrical genius to this magical, go-to-bed flipside of the enormously successful Barnyard Dance!  After dancing all night to the captivating music of the Woodland Dance Trio, the animal friends wander off to bed while the Trio plays one last piece to welcome the sunrise. Capturing the secret magic of the forest and sparking children’s interest in the natural world as they settle down for bed, Woodland Dance! is the perfect sleepy time tale! Woodland Dance! (Workman Publishing; On-sale: September 28, 2021; $7.95) You can find it here.

I loved this delightful picture book and recommend it for all young children!

More about the author:

Sandra Boynton is a beloved American cartoonist, children’s author, songwriter, and highly sporadic short film director. Starting with the 1977 publication of Hippos Go Berserk!, Boynton has written and illustrated over sixty children’s books and eight general audience books, including five New York Times bestsellers. Her renowned books include Barnyard Dance!, Snuggle Puppy!, Belly Button Book!, EEK! Halloween!, But Not the Hippopotamus, and The Going to Bed Book. More than 70 million of her books have been sold—“mostly to friends and family,” she says. Boynton has also written and produced six albums of unconventional children’s music, which include performances by Brian Wilson, Brad Paisley, Kevin Kline, Kacey Musgraves, Blues Traveler, Alison Krauss, Meryl Streep, Spin Doctors, Davy Jones, Dwight Yoakam, Patti LuPone, Neil Sedaka, and “Weird Al” Yankovic in a duet with Kate Winslet. Three of Boynton’s albums have been certified Gold (over 500,000 copies sold), and Philadelphia Chickens, nominated for a Grammy, has gone Platinum (over one million copies sold). Boynton has also written and directed eleven short musical films, including “One Shoe Blues,” starring B. B. King; and two animated shorts: “When Pigs Fly,” sung by Ryan Adams, and “Tyrannosaurus Funk,” sung by Samuel L. Jackson, which won the 2018 Grand Prize for Best Children’s Animation Short from the Rhode Island International Film Festival. In 2008, Boynton received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Cartoonists Society.

Boynton has four perfect children, and an equally perfect granddaughter and grandson. She raised her family on a very old New England farm (it’s now a non-working farm, except for the hyperactive cartoon chickens and disaffected imaginary cows and such). Her studio there is in a converted barn that has perhaps the only hippopotamus weathervane in America.

The Ghost and Molly Mcgee * Fun Show About The Supernatural And Unlikely Friendships

Tween optimist Molly McGee lives to make the world a better place, fix what has gone wrong, and spread joy. Meanwhile, cantankerous ghost Scratch lives to make the world a worse place, break what has gone right, and spread misery. When a curse from Scratch backfires, he finds himself forever bound to Molly. Despite that, Scratch and Molly form an unlikely friendship that guides each of them through the ups and downs of their respective worlds. KIDS FIRST! Film Critic Avalon N. comments, “The Ghost and Molly Mcgee is a fun show about the supernatural. With so many things that don’t exist in the real world, this show makes you see into the world of the supernatural.” See her full review below.

The Ghost and Molly Mcgee

By Avalon N. KIDS FIRST! Film Critic, age 13

The Ghost and Molly Mcgee is a fun show about the supernatural. With so many things that don’t exist in the real world, this show makes you see into the world of the supernatural.

This show is about Molly Mcgee (Ashly Burch) and The Ghost whose name is Scratch (Dana Snyder). When Molly moves into a new house that is haunted by Scratch, Molly instantly befriends him and, in an attempt to get her off his back, he curses her so that she will be haunted forever – but, that ends up being a curse for him. To find out what happens to this hilarious duo watch this show!

One cool thing about this show is that, when the ghost does his haunting thing, the whole screen turns sideways and the colors go crazy, which makes it so entertaining to watch. Another thing I like about this show is the ghost council. The head ghosts hands out assignments and each ghost gets a scare report where they have to show a certain amount of scares during a certain period of time. The whole show is animated and has a very different style of animation. Most animated shows I watch try to look 3D and as realistic as possible, but this one is closer to 2D and it intentionally looks more like a cartoon. That has a more kid-friendly feel, especially with the scary ghost scenes.

The message is that unlikely friendships can work out.

I give The Ghost and Molly Mcgee 5 out of 5 stars and recommend it for ages 6 to 16. I think younger kids might find the ghost scenes a little scary. This begins streaming October 1, 2021 on Hulu TV Live.

7 Tips for Buying Newborn Baby Clothes

Did you know that there were 3.6 million babies born in the United States of America in the year 2020? That means that someone that you know and care about is likely to have had a baby last year. One important part of having a baby is picking out the right baby clothes.

No matter if it is baby boy clothes or baby girl clothes, there are things that you need to do in order to make sure that the clothes you purchase are comfortable, safe, and cute. While this might seem difficult, you’re in the perfect place to learn some helpful tips with it comes to picking out the perfect newborn baby clothes.

Continue reading this article to learn about seven helpful tips that will help you the next time that you’re perusing your options in our local baby clothing stores.

1. Focus On Comfort

When it comes to picking out baby clothing, the first thing that you need to think about is comfort. It is important to remember that babies have extremely sensitive skin so certain clothing types aren’t a good fit. If you accidentally pick out baby clothing that is rough then it could cause irritation and rashes on your newborn’s skin.

The best approach to take is to try to find cute baby clothes that are soft and comfortable. If it is during the colder months then you should try to find baby clothes that are a bit thicker and warmer. If the summer months are coming up then make sure that you pick out baby clothes that breathe well but still protect your baby’s skin.

The best options for baby clothing when it comes to materials are cotton, fleece, and blended fabrics. You’ll want the clothes to be soft but absorbent. This creates a gentle clothing experience on your baby’s skin.

2. Keep Things Simple

It is easy to get carried away when you first start shopping for cute baby clothes for your newborn. Everyone pictures their baby in cute but stereotypical baby outfits like the baby sailor outfit. Don’t get drawn in by these baby clothes designs. Instead, focus on baby clothes that are cute but that provide practicality.

You’re going to have to change a lot of diapers which will only be more difficult if you have to help your baby out of complicated and confusing baby outfits. Target simple and soft clothes like those at Hanna Andersson. Clothes with frills and ribbons will irritate your baby’s skin so it is wise to keep your baby clothes simple.

3. Think About Temperature

An important component of picking out the best baby clothes for your newborn baby girl or boy is to make sure that you’re getting clothes that are right for the temperature. It is no secret that babies feel cold much easier than adults. It could be in the heart of summer and if there is a breeze your baby will start to feel cold.

The best option for hot weather when it comes to baby clothes is cotton. When winter arrives you should try to layer baby clothes in order to keep your baby warm but comfortable. Don’t go overboard with the layering as that can cause your baby to get too hot and uncomfortable.

4. Size

Anyone that has had kids knows that they grow faster than you can believe. This makes shopping for baby clothes a difficult proposition. If you’re unsure of what size clothes to get for your baby girl or boy then it is always better to err on the side of larger sizes.

While the clothes you purchased might not fit your baby right now, it will be only a matter of weeks or months until those clothes are a perfect fit. A good approach is to get a few clothing items in each size and invest in new clothes as your baby keeps growing. That way you won’t spend a ton of money on clothes your baby can’t wear.

5. Quality Over Quantity

One thing that is important to remember with baby clothes is that you’re better off getting a few quality baby clothes options than investing in a ton of baby clothes that aren’t as nice. While baby clothes are expensive, it makes more sense to get something that will last for the period that you need it than it does to go cheap and get clothes that are uncomfortable.

6. Get Machine-Wash Baby Clothes

Your baby is going to make a ton of messes. That is just the reality of raising a child. Your child will spit up, throw up, and drool on the baby clothes that you purchase for your newborn. You’re going to need to wash these clothes on a consistent basis otherwise your children will run out of clothing.

Make sure that you’re purchasing baby clothes that stand up to stains but will also handle the rigors of frequent washes in your washing machine. You want to invest in fabrics that won’t grow dull or rough after getting washed in your home’s washing machine. This will keep your baby’s skin soft and healthy.

7. Get the Essentials

There are some baby clothes options that are essential when you have a newborn on the way. Singlets are a great clothing option that will keep your baby comfortable while also allowing for easy cleanup on your part. A singlet will catch all of the drool and vomit that your baby creates.

Onesies are also a great investment because they are easy to put on and take off. This is valuable because it makes it much easier for you to clean your baby and change their diaper when nature calls.

Find the Perfect Baby Clothes for Your Newborn

There are certain things that you need to look for when it comes to picking out the perfect baby clothes for your newborn. Make sure that you get the essential items like singlets and onesies. This makes cleaning up much easier. You should also make sure to get clothing materials that are soft in order to keep your baby comfortable and healthy.

Scone and Bonnie Blue, Oct. 7th Pets of the Week!

Scone (left) and Bonnie Blue (right) are a bonded pair of lap kitties, but it took them a little while to get into the cuddle zone. Even though they were only 2 months old when they got here, they were very shy, and potential adopters overlooked them. They’re 5 months old now, and the difference is wonderful—they’re super-soft, super-sweet little cats without a mean bone in either body. They’ll fit beautifully into one lap. How about yours? Adoptions are made through appointment only, so email PetAdopt@longbeach.gov to meet Scone and Bonnie Blue. Ask for ID#A658270.
