6 Ways to Allergy-Proof Your Home

Your home should be the place in your life where you can retreat from the worries of the world and relax. However, if your home is actually causing your allergies and then it’s unlikely to be a place that you find relaxing!

Luckily, there are plenty of things that you can do to minimize the allergens in your home and make it a more comfortable place to be.

Carpets are comfortable to walk on, but they are also a great place for dust, pollen, pet dander, and other allergens to get trapped, which can mean that they actually make your allergies worse.

If you can, it’s a good idea to replace carpets with wipe-clean floorings such as vinyl or laminate as you can more easily remove all of the dust and pollen that gathers on them, and it’s easier for you to see when they are starting to get dirty.

If you don’t want to get rid of your carpets, then be sure to hoover them regularly to remove the allergens.

Open fireplaces are the thing most of us picture when we hear the word ‘cozy,’ but they are also a great way to create a whole lot of extra dust in your home! The open chimney also provides a great way for pollen to enter your home.

If you’re prone to allergies, a better option is to opt for a gas fire that gives you the same cozy appearance but without allergens.

You can go a long way towards making your home allergy-free by getting rid of as much clutter as you can.

Piles of clutter, particularly things like clothing, are a great place for dust and pollen to get trapped, which means that it stays in your home rather than getting carried outside.

Rather than opening your windows as it gets warmer and potentially letting in lots of pollen, it’s a good idea to get an air conditioner with an air filter designed for keeping pollen and dust out of your home.

This also means that you’ll avoid letting lots of bugs and outside noise into your home too!

Be prepared

If you know that you get allergies, it’s important to have everything you need to alleviate your symptoms ready to go.

Stock up on eye drops for allergies, antihistamines, and anything else that you find helps you when your allergies flare up.

Be mindful of bringing the outside in

Something that a lot of people don’t think about is the fact that when you’re outside, things like pollen will attach themselves to your skin and clothing.

It can be really helpful to make a habit of removing your outdoor coats and shoes when you come into the house and washing your hands. It can even be helpful to make a point of showering and changing, depending on how severe your allergies are.

Much as we love them, people are commonly allergic to the dander found in pet hair. If you have a pet, you can minimize the risk of allergies by not allowing them to sleep in the bedroom, grooming them regularly, and ensuring that you wash their bedding frequently.

Do you have Kids and Pets? If so, an instant all-purpose stain and odor remover is a must!

If you have kids and pets you know that real life can be very messy! An instant all purpose stain and odor remover is an absolute must! My favorite is Kids ‘N’ Pets because it is non-toxic, cruelty free and biodegradable. I also like that it is safe to use on so many different surfaces. You can use it on carpets, tile, furniture, concrete, floors, clothing and even in the car!

A dog and two cats are special members of our family and kids ‘N’ Pets has been a real life saver! When my dog Bink was sprayed by a skunk, I was relieved that it helped to get rid of the smell. By the time, I had finished bathing Bink in the tub, my whole sweatshirt smelled like a Skunk. I though that the smell would never go away! But, I simply added 1 cup to a load of laundry and washed as usual. It was also very helpful to spray the air to get rid of the smell.

Kids ‘N’ Pets can also be used to clean and deodorize Kitty litter boxes. I did try this out and was amazed at how well it worked. I was also happy that my cats used the litter box after. Sometimes they can be quite picky about smells.

This stain and odor remover has quickly become one of my favorite cleaning products this summer. You can find it here.
