Cinco de Mayo means Cabo Chips!

It’s almost Cinco de Mayo! I can not believe that today is the first day of May! With Cinco de Mayo right around the corner, it is time to start thinking of the yummy (but healthy!) things to serve family and friends! It’s not always easy to find delicious and healthier options. But, I recently had the opportunity to try samples of the Cabo Chips and I love them! Actually, they were a hit with my whole family and didn’t last very long in our house! My favorite were the Mango Chili Lime but my son loved the Original ones! They are..well..yummy!!

Born on the beautiful beaches of Baja, Mexico, Cabo Chips are 100% whole grain classic cantina style tortilla chips and are inspired by the boldly vibrant atmosphere of Cabo San Lucas. A delicious fusion of the old and the new, these all natural chips are cooked the traditional way – cut from fresh tortillas that are batch cooked for a true cantina crunch! Cabo Chips use only real ingredients, no “flavorings,” for authenticity you can taste.

I love that these chips are Non-GMO verified, organic, 100% whole grain, vegan, gluten-free, and kosher. In fact, their original flavor has only five ingredients (and you can easily pronounce them all!) Now, how cool is that?!

This month, the family-run company also introduced two new flavors: Mango Chili Lime and Churro (yes you heard me right!) to add to its selection of Original and Blue Corn chips, just in time for Cinco de Mayo! Like, I said, those Mango Chili Lime are too delicious for words! I also like that the Churro flavor is sweet but not too sweet.

In June 2015, they will launch their Ancient Grain flavor.

  • Cabo Chips Ancient Grain process is unique cut from real corn tortillas, not extruded, for the only true cantina style ancient grain tortilla chip
  • Loaded with Teff, Chia, and Amaranth for over 100mgs of Omega 3’s per serving and a nutty flavor
  • Teff is the most nutritionally impressive ancient grain and it is very absorbable
  • No “natural flavorings”, no yeast, and no maltodextrine
  • Cooked in antioxidant rich rice bran oil, high in Gamma
  • Oryzanol and the best balance of saturated fat for oils
  • Non-GMO Project Verified, Gluten-Free, Vegan, Kosher, 100% Whole Grain, No Trans Fat, 100% recyclable packaging.

Now, here’s a really cool recipe from our New friends at Cabo Chips!

DIY Tortilla Chip Recipe From Cabo Chips

-Corn flour or Corn masa

-Canola, grapeseed or corn oil. Cabo Chips loves rice bran oil for a healthier alternative.

Combine hot water with the corn flour or masa. Water will vary so start with 1 1/4 cups and add more if necessary.

Use a tortilla press (they can be purchased at a local market) to press the doughy mixture into a thin sheet. You can do it by hand, but we don’t recommend thick tortillas for chips.

Cook the tortillas in a pan or griddle until there are even toast marks Let the tortillas rest for an hour or two Cut the tortillas into your desired shape such as triangles Place a thick coat of oil into a pan and heat.

Drop the cut tortillas into the heated oil of your choice frying them until golden brown on each side Season to taste with salt.

Cabo Chips are available in select food chains such as Whole Foods, Vons and others, as well as direct purchase online:  I was excited to see them at my local Vons!
