Celebrate Acorn Day at O’Neill Regional Park Oct. 5th!

 Join the County of Orange and OC Parks under the oaks to celebrate Acorn Day at O’Neill Regional Park on Saturday, October 5 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Enjoy this free, family-friendly event featuring fun craft activities, a live butterfly enclosure, active games, face painting, live music from “Open to the Public,” ukulele lessons, nature and animal exhibits, storytelling, activities like painting on water, acorn and oak tree planting and much more!

“Acorn Day is a wonderful opportunity for families to enjoy the outdoors together and learn about their natural surroundings in beautiful O’Neill Regional Park,” Orange County Supervisor Lisa Bartlett, Fifth District, said. “This event is a long-standing fall tradition at O’Neill Regional Park, so we are honored to bring the community together for another year of fun and learning for all ages.”

Guided nature hikes to the Water Tower will be offered at 10:15 a.m. and 11 a.m. Guests will have a chance to cast their own plaster animal track, and visit the OC Parks “Nature on the Go” trailer. Families can also enjoy a variety of presentations throughout the day including two live butterfly releases offered by Western Monarch Guardians, U.S. Forest Service and a book signing with Sama Wareh, the author of “How to Draw 60 Native CA Plants and Animals, A Field Guide.”

Various outdoor groups from the Orange County region will also participate in the day’s festivities including The Institute of Wildlife Studies, Orange County Bird of Prey Center, Saddleback Canyon Riders – ETI Corral 357, Tucker Wildlife Sanctuary, Orange County Firewatch, SHARE Mountain Bike Club, The Hummingbird Nest Story, Southwestern Field Herping Associates, The Helena Modjeska Foundation and local historical groups.
