Pediped Originals for those First Steps!

Originals Jordyn White (02PED_ 35915)

Do you have a little one learning how to walk? Are you looking for more comfortable shoes? I do remember when my son was little, it was tough to find cute shoes that were more than just cute! Pediped makes handcrafted, soft-soled leather footwear called Originals and they are especially made for those first steps! Perfect for infants ad children learning to walk. A friend of mine recently had her first baby girl and so we received a pretty pink pair to try out on her little one. First, they really are adorable! But, more important is how they are made and how comfortable they are.  The best thing is that they are made of the highest quality leather and also feature a soft foam insert between the leather layers.

Originals Daisy Mid Pink Multi (02PED_ 36893)  SS_DaphneLightPink_210

They really are made well and are comfortable. My good friend Jina says “My daughter likes to keep them on and she has refused to wear other brands of shoes!” I have actually seen her daughter not like to wear shoes but she seems to want to wear these! The Originals come in sizes XS (0-6 mo)-Lrg (18-24 mo) and are for ages 0-24 months. You can find them on the Pediped website. They also have shoes for little kids and bigger kids and for both boys ad girls. Actually, I am hoping they will soon make them in bigger sizes because my son has outgrown Pediped but loves their shoes! Pediped is currently having a Semi Annual Sale-so don’t miss out! Check them out on Facebook too!

GO-FAME YOUTH THEATRE COMPANY

Cheer O Meter Sign

The Elvis-Fueled Broadway Musical Rides Into Long Beach, CA

July 6, 2013 – July 14, 2013

University Theater at CSULB

GO-FAME Youth Theatre Company is shakin’ up summer with ALL SHOOK UP, featuring hit songs made famous by Elvis Presley and a book by Tony Award winner Joe DiPietro (Memphis; I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change), opening July 6th at the University Theater at CSULB.

ALL SHOOK UP is a musical comedy about a sleepy Midwestern town that gets shaken up by the arrival of a mysterious leather-jacketed, guitar-playing stranger. It combines the toe-tappin’ tunes of the “King” and a plot reminiscent of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night to tell a story about the magic of romance and the power of rock ‘n’ roll. The play includes star-crossed lovers, mistaken identities and fresh takes on your favorite Elvis tunes including “Jailhouse Rock”, “Hound Dog”, and “Can’t Help Falling In Love”. This jukebox musical will have the whole family jumping out of their blue suede shoes!

“This is the perfect show to bring the family to this summer,” says Elaine Zofrea, director. “It is not your standard romantic comedy. The story is funny and sweet and includes one surprise after another. It has amazing dance numbers, beautiful sets and costumes to take you back to 1955. The music is so fun you’ll find yourself humming these great adaptations of Elvis’ hits long after the show is over.”

Forty-seven young performers, ages 8-18, representing 25 schools from 7 school districts, featuring Jisel Ayon and Melissa Musial sharing the role of Natalie and Garrett Engle as the roustabout Chad. The show is directed by GO-FAME’s Artistic Director, Elaine Zofrea, with musical direction by Drake York and choreography by Gina Mendes and Rachel McVay.

Show times are Saturdays, July 6 & 13 at 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. and Sundays, July 7 & 14 at 2:00 p.m. Tickets are $15 for Premium/Reserved seats and $12 for General Admission. Purchase tickets online at www.GO-FAME.org or at the auditorium box office 45 minutes prior to show time. Group rates are available for school groups and youth organizations. Please contact Kathy McGuire at kmcguire@GO-FAME.org for details. The University Theater at CSULB is located on the southeast end of the campus at the intersection of 7th Street and East Campus Drive. Event parking is $5 per vehicle. The show is approximately 100 minutes long with one intermission. Out of respect for our youth performers, we request no babes in arms in the theater. Regardless of age, every guest must have a ticket and be able to sit quietly through the performance. For more information, visit www.GO-FAME.org .

GO-FAME, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit theatrical producing and training program for ages 8-18, has a 5,000 square foot studio in the Long Beach Towne Center. Its goal is to work with the area’s diverse youth population and bring them together through this collaborative art form. They provide a safe place for budding artists to develop their skills and nurture future patrons of the arts. Students at GO-FAME learn the confidence, camaraderie and focus necessary for theatre and beyond. The staff includes professional artists in theatre and entertainment.

Emilio Delgado (“Luis” of Sesame Street) introduces 12 joyful songs on this bilingual musical celebration of Latin America, featuring songs from Mexico, Venezuela, Cuba and Peru.

Awards:
American Library Association – Notable Children’s Recording
Parents’ Choice – Gold Award

Critical Acclaim:
“Rich, varied rhythms… give children an exciting way to connect with other cultures”
—Early Childhood Today (Best Bets)

“Twelve selections from seven Latin American countries include traditional and contemporary songs. While they are sung mostly in Spanish, the lyric sheet includes the English translations. Each piece is introduced in both languages by Emilio Delgado (“Luis” to Sesame Street watchers). Vocals by adult artists, mostly from the countries represented, are liberally interlaced with accomplished children’s voices. Most interesting of all is the variety of indigenous instruments – quitiplas, maracas, charango – many of which are unfamiliar to the average North American ear. A sunny and satisfying introduction to our southern neighbors.” — from Parents’ Choice®

Songs:
1. Fiesta Musical – Maria Medina-Serafin
2. A La Escuela – Bobi Cespedes
3. La Acamaya – Eugene Rodriguez/Artemio Posadas Jimenez

Print

In addition to our nation’s Independence Day celebration on the 4th, July is also National Family Reunion Month and an opportunity to win big with an all-new national “Pajanimals’ Pack Your Pajamas Sweepstakes” with Amtrak.

Visiting with seldom seen family members can be loads of fun, and if you choose to travel by train, you can make the journey to your family’s reunion an exciting part of your child’s summer vacation experience.   Think about it. Rather than fighting traffic, scheduling potty and snack breaks and trying to keep kids entertained on a long car trip, you can travel by train and actually spend quality time with your children while sharing a memorable adventure.

Amtrak offers some interesting vacation suggestions and discounts for family travel, as well as a special Kids Depot webpage (http://www.amtrak.com/whistle-stop/kids-depot), complete with games, activities and downloads covering a variety of topics like trains, geography, the environment, memory-building, problem-solving and much more.  Kids can use the site to even make and send their own e-cards from the family laptop while aboard the train.  Once aboard the train, you and your family will enjoy spectacular views, can get up and move around, visit the dining car or restroom, read train stories and play games, even take a nap together, arriving at your destination rested, happy and stress free.

The Jim Henson Company, a leader in family entertainment for over 50 years, is partnering with Amtrak this July for a special “Pajanimals’ Pack Your Pajamas Sweepstakes.”  Families can enter the sweepstakes beginning July 1, 2013 by logging onto http://www.henson.com/PJsweepstakes/ and following the entry directions.

The “Pajanimals’ Pack Your Pajamas Sweepstakes” will award one Grand Prize of four round-trip coach tickets on Amtrak, a Flip video camera and a 4-piece large plush set of Pajanimals from Tomy.  Five First Prize winners will receive HeysUSA Amtrak luggage and a Pajanimals Adventure Game from Briarpatch and 10 Second Prize winners will receive an Amtrak branded hoodie and the “Pajanimals Playdate” DVD from NCircle Entertainment.  The sweepstakes ends July 31, 2013, just in time to take the family on an exciting vacation adventure via Amtrak.

As part of the national summer promotion, Amtrak will promote the “Pajanimals’ Pack Your Pajamas Sweepstakes” and entry details through counter cards and seatbacks in over 100 Amtrak stations nationwide.  Amtrak will also distribute free Pajanimals’ themed activity booklets to young travelers and Pajanimals will be featured on placemats for use in Amtrak’s dining cars.

Bring a portable DVD player or laptop along on the family vacation and watch the NEW “Pajanimals Pajama Party!” DVD, now available at www.ncircleentertainment.com and www.amazon.com. (SRP: $9.99)

Pajanimals love to celebrate birthdays, sing songs and enjoy pajama dance parties with friends.  You and your pre-schoolers can join Cowbella, Apollo, Sweet Pea Sue and Squacky as they travel to Birthday Land to learn the true importance of why birthdays are so special!  Then it’s time to enjoy a pajama dance party and sing our favorite songs!  Join the Pajanimals on these fun adventures before it’s time for bedtime in “Pajanimals Pajama Party!”

The stories featured in the DVD encourage children to learn important social and emotional lessons such as how to share with friends, overcoming shyness and telling the truth.  Perfect themes for family reunions, parties and sleepovers with cousins.

And you can celebrate your family reunion with the new Pajanimals’ party products from Birthdayexpress.com.  As you may know, The Jim Henson Company partnered with BirthdayExpress.com, the authority on kids’ party planning and supplies, on the creation of a new line of Pajanimals-themed disposable party products, including tableware, personalized banners and wall décor, party favors, piñatas, cupcake wrappers and boxes, and even a t-shirt (costs vary).

These colorful and entertaining party products feature the lovable Pajanimals characters and can be used for your child’s Pajanimals-themed Pajama Party, family reunion, 4th of July celebration, birthday party, or even just a fun, backyard BBQ.  The Pajanimals’ party products are now available at www.birthdayexpress.com!

And if your Pajanimals fan misses an episode of Pajanimals while on vacation, Comcast is offering a special Pajanimals On Demand option the week of July 22 as part of its Summer of Kids Video On Demand (VOD) promotion.  Every episode of Pajanimals will be available on demand and online to Comcast subscribers. The Summer of Kids promotion is designed to showcase the XFINITY TV library of kids content across platforms including traditional video on demand and the online platform at Xfinity.net.  Additionally the campaign aims to introduce new portability features, such as live streaming and download capabilities through the Xfinity app.

Pajanimals currently airs daily on Sprout, the 24-hour preschool channel parents and kids share together, and on Saturday mornings on NBC Kids.  The series follows the adventures of four cuddly musical puppets — Sweet Pea Sue, Squacky, Cowbella and Apollo. These Journeys celebrate imagination and tackle typical toddler issues such as the fear of the first day of school, making new friends and learning how to share.  The Pajanimals end their day of play with a relaxing return to their cozy bedroom and familiar night time routines, including bathing, brushing teeth and story time, to develop a feeling of safety and structure.

Pajanimals fans can also visit the www.sproutonline.com website to play the latest Pajanimals Birthday Party Game for kids.

We are hosting a GIVEAWAY of the “Pajanimals Pajama Party!” DVD for U.S. and Canada participants. If you would like to win the “Pajanimals Pajama Party!” DVD, you must be a subscriber to SoCal City Kids! Next, leave us a comment below telling us your favorite thing about the 4th of July! You’ve Learned About Astronauts And Deep Space

More astronauts have traveled into space than aquanauts into the deepest part of the ocean. About 95 percent of the ocean is unexplored. The Aquarium of the Pacific and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) invite the public to dive into the unknown, the final frontier of our planet, during Explorers Day on Sunday, July 21.

Guests will have the opportunity to meet and hear from historical and modern-day ocean explorers, see demonstrations of remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) under water, and watch live video feeds from three deep-sea exploration vessels. NOAA and other agencies and organizations engaged in ocean exploration will feature educational booths at this event. Kid’s activities, including guest appearances by the Octonauts, will be included throughout the day.

Sylvia Earle and Don Walsh are among the ocean explorers the public can meet at this event. Earle led the first team of women aquanauts during the Tektite Project and set a record for solo diving to a depth of 3,000 feet in 1970. Walsh is one of only three people to reach the deepest part of the ocean—the bottom of the Mariana Trench. He accomplished this in 1960 with Jacques Piccard, recording a depth of 35,886 feet. This feat was not accomplished again until 2012, when Academy Award-winning filmmaker James Cameron became the third person to reach the trench’s seafloor and the first solo diver to do so, recording a depth of 35,756 feet. Explorers Day was made possible by generous support from Felix Williams and Susan Slavik Williams.
