OC Parks, California Department of Fish and Wildlife and Angler Chronicles announce the return of the much-anticipated annual Kids’ Fishing Derby at the North Lake at Mile Square Regional Park on Saturday, Oct. 16. Register for the free event from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. and enjoy the derby from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
“We’re thrilled to invite the community back to Mile Square Regional Park for another free Kids’ Fishing Derby,” said Supervisor Andrew Do, Chairman of the Orange County Board of Supervisors. “This long-standing tradition brings families together for some friendly competition and outdoor fun.”
The North Lake will be stocked with more than 1,000 pounds of catfish for kids ages 6 to 15 to try and catch. Prizes and trophies will be awarded for different age groups and the participant with the overall winning catch of the day will get their name inscribed on the legendary Mile Square Park Fishing Derby Trophy. There will be fishing clinics held on-site and a limited quantity of fishing rods will be available for loan.
Registration is required at the OC Parks check-in table on the day of the event. Space is limited and early arrival is suggested. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Rain will not cancel the event.
