Make kids’ artwork the star of holiday cards

Walking into any store and seeing all the candy, decorations and other festive items will tell you the holiday season is right around the corner. And no matter how much we feel prepared going into the season or how much we swore up and down that we won’t forget Aunt Becky or Uncle Brad from our holiday card list, it just happens. Handwrytten has created a card sending service that will learn your handwriting and signature, AI that will help you write the card, and robots that will put the pen to paper and put on the stamp, so you never forget anyone again.

Comedy Troupe 30 Minute Musicals Parodies Home Alone in Hilarious Holiday Musical Mash-Up at Sierra Madre Playhouse, Dec. 6, 7, 14

30 MM Presents Home Alone -pc Courtesy of SIerra Madre Playhouse

The acclaimed comedy troupe 30 Minute Musicals (30MM) presents, with tongue-in-cheek charm, a hilarious musical mash-up of Home Alone, condensed into a rapid-fire, music-packed distillation of the cult-classic holiday film at Sierra Madre Playhouse for three performances, December 6, 7, and 14, 2025, at 7:30 pm. The fun fast‑paced show, which adheres to the film’s story, includes humorous song parodies, spot‑on character moments, and unexpected touches of improv. The Home Alone holiday spectacular is a clever comedic treat that appeals to both movie lovers and musical theatre fans alike.

Mirroring the movie theater experience, the show even kicks off with live film “trailers” before the Home Alone musical parody begins.

Formed in 2011, 30MM takes beloved cult‑classic films, distills them into 30‑minute musicals, adapts them with original songs and witty dialogue, and performs them live with energy, audience interaction, and theatrical flair. The ensemble’s productions — ranging from Top Gun to Ghostbusters — are praised for their sharp comedic timing, clever musical mash‑ups, and up‑close immersion.

For tickets ($25) and information, please call 626.355.4318 or visit www.sierramadreplayhouse.org. Sierra Madre Playhouse is located at 87 West Sierra Madre Boulevard, Sierra Madre, CA 91024.

Zoey, Dec. 5 Pet of the Week

AWWWWW

Zoey, 4 years old, is more than just a houn’ dog—she’s also a Belgian Malinois! Zoey’s affectionate and seeks attention from humans, and although she’s not much of a frolicker, she does like to hang out with dogs in the play yard and casually mingle, discussing what they’ve smelled in the grass and bushes. She’s apparently had some training—she knows several commands and is housebroken. Zoey once had a home, but it doesn’t seem like she had attention from them. She’s been at the shelter a couple of times as a stray in the last few years, and her owner always came for her. This last time, though, they never responded to shelter requests to come for her, and now, Zoey needs a forever home where her family will give her the attention she so craves. Like many dogs with Belgian Malinois in their DNA, Zoey cannot handle confinement in a kennel—can you give her the home she deserves? The shelter’s over capacity with dogs, so speed the process to adopt or foster Zoey or any of our other pets by emailing PetAdopt@longbeach.gov or petfoster@longbeach.gov. You can also call (562) 570-4925. Our shelter hours are Wednesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 7700 E. Spring St. at the entrance to El Dorado Park (no parking fee for shelter visitors. Ask for ID#A687132
