Mako, Nov. 10th Pet of the Week

so adorable!

Mako (ID#A707234) is a 2-year-old Belgian Malinois who’s an absolute dream doggie for people who love this loyal breed. He’s very friendly to humans, is nonreactive to other dogs, and absolutely loves to play. He’s also suffering from kennel stress and must be out of the shelter by Nov. 17. It’s hard for a socially intelligent animal to be confined to a kennel, even with the most loving volunteers and staff. They all want Mako to make it out in the best way possible and not through the alternative. To meet Mako, visit Long Beach Animal Care Services Wednesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 7700 E. Spring St. at the entrance to El Dorado Park (no parking fee for shelter visitors). You can email PetAdopt@longbeach.gov to speed the process for adopting or fostering Mako. Ask for ID#A707234.

Celebrate Native American Heritage Month with this Book!

AUTUMN PELTIER, WATER WARRIOR by Carole Lindstrom; illustrations by Bridget George (Roaring Brook Press, September 19, 2023, Ages 4-8): Carole Lindstrom expands on the important lessons of climate change of We Are Water Protectors, touching on the Annishinabe principle of acting with the next seven generations in mind. Caring for the planet and the people that inhabit it is a massive undertaking that requires bravery and mindfulness from every person. This is an entertaining and educational book and I highly recommend it!

Self Disclosure: I received a free copy of the book to facilitate this post. A cover image was also provided.
