A fun CD for the younger kids?

PromoImage

Kids love music and this next Holiday gift suggestion is a great one for the younger kids!   Fun O’Clock! They’re back!  In The Nick of Time, theParents’ Choice® Award winning duo of Nick Deysher and Tracey Freitag, triumphantly returns to the forefront of the family music scene with the October 21 release of their fourth studio CD, Fun O’Clock.

Noted for eclectic recordings that celebrate the songs he loved growing up, Nick Deysher and In The Nick of Time draw on a lush expanse of influences.  Fun O’Clock is not only a trip through the decades of more than 100 years of popular music but also a global peregrination that includes ’80s hip-hop, ska/reggae, Celtic, and indie rock, alongside classic rock and roll, jazz, and country, with even a tip of the hat to the Renaissance.

Fun O’Clock’s title track, in the mode of  Pharell’s “Happy,” is an upbeat opener that segues effortlessly into the Motown groove of “Doin’ A Little Dance.”  From there, the music keeps up a veritable tsunami of creativity, with the ska/reggae rhythms of “You’ve Only Got One Body” followed by a modern indie rock number à la Modest Mouse, The Killers, and Franz Ferdinand titled “Road Trip,” and a “Stairway To Heaven” inspired Renaissance madrigal, “Hey Nonny No,” which builds to a rocking finish line.  And that’s just the beginning!

Nick Deysher draws not only on music he’s heard and loved through the years but also on his day-to-day interactions with children as a preschool classroom teacher.  He explains, “Being a teacher, I always look for ways that my music can educate. Whether I’m discussing healthy living habits in ‘You’ve Only Got One Body’ or describing the life cycle of a butterfly in ‘Flutter By Butterfly,’ I try to focus on learning.  Calling this album Fun O’Clock suggests that I was also trying to make this a fun ride, and there is certainly a lot of that!  The title track is a good example.  At its center, the song is about counting and telling time, but it goes through an upbeat and eclectic musical journey to get there.”

Nick Deysher has released three previous In The Nick of Time albums,Coconut Groove (2007), the Parents’ Choice® Gold Award winningPeople, Places & Things (2009), and the Parents’ Choice® Silver Award winning Making Silly Faces (2011).

We received a copy of this one! The music is fun and so lively that kids will want to sing and dance along! A Must-Have for holiday gifts and stocking stuffers!

Fun O’Clock will be available online at www.inthenickoftimemusic.com, amazon.com, CDbaby.com, and iTunes.

The gift for everyone?

OzobotVisuals_DualBot_HR

Ozobot is sure to be a hit for kids and adults of all ages! I received a Dual Pack and this one is just too much fun!!

Kids Program This One-Inch Wonder Game Piece To Move Itself (!) Bridging The Gap Between Virtual and Digital Play! Now, really how cool does that sound?!

Ozobot_LifestyleShot_03 copy_HR        Ozobot_DualPack_Accessories_HR

Observe a kid afterschool and he’ll probably be “playing” with an assortment of digital devices from tablets and smart phones to wireless controllers and Apps. Technology is their norm and augments everything they do from homework to family game night. What’s next? A board game where the pieces move themselves a la The Jetsons? Actually, yes! Introducing Ozobot, the one-inch robot that moves kids from augmented reality back to physical play.

Launched this year at both the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) and the American International Toy Fair, tiny Ozobot charmed the geeks and the toy masters. Dr. Toy placed Ozobot on her 10 Best Technology list for 2014. USA Today and Popular Science immediately named it to their Best Tech Toys of Toy Fair. The bot’s futuristic design landed the hold-in-your-palm toy inside NY’s Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) Design Store.

Designed by electronics company Evollve, the robot’s capacity for fun and learning are endless. Playing with this tiny bot introduces kids to simple (or complex) coding, expands their imaginations and encourages life skills such as deductive reasoning.

Like Dorothy following the yellow brick road to Oz, kids use color — black, red, green and blue — to program Ozobot to follow a path forward, backwards, fast, slow, right, left and more. So clever is the technology that the bot can move on physical surfaces like paper and digital planes like an smart phone or tablets. As long as there is a colored line or digital flash codes of red, blue, green or black, Ozobot will move at the command of the color or pattern of colors.

I simply love the Ozobot’s free downloadable games! OzoDraw is my favorite! This one is a drawing and exploration app that tests Ozobot’s intelligence. I am so impressed with this little robot and it is such a fun way to play with Robotics. It’s just too much fun! I think you could actually buy one of these for everyone on your shopping list!

Senior Pet Month

BilJac-Logo-HighRes

Did you know that it is Senior Pet Month? Here are some helpful tips and advice from our friends at Bil-Jac!

  1. What are 6 ways to support your senior dog’s health?
  • Feed a high-quality diet that provides protein for muscle mass. Providing a high-quality diet, like Bil-Jac Senior Select Dry Dog Food, helps to maintain healthy muscle. Eating a diet specially formulated for mature dogs can help support your dog’s overall health.
  • Keep your dog’s weight in check. Share that people can visit Bil-Jac’s Learning Library online at Bil-Jac.com and view Bil-Jac’s Pet Obesity chart to find the healthy weight of their pup.
  • Activity – both physical and mental stimulation with training.
  • Keep those teeth clean. Dental disease can result in your dog losing teeth and having a difficult time eating, further risking your dog’s health. Be proactive and brush once a day and keep those teeth where they belong.
  • Thoughtful accommodations. As your best friend matures, he may have a more difficult time getting up the stairs or into the car. Being patient with him and assisting him will help keep him safe yet allow him to continue to do the things he likes to do.
  • Regular veterinarian visits. Taking a trip to see the doctor on a regular basis is even more important to your maturing dog. Your vet can be a valuable source of advice. Many veterinarians can run a panel of tests on your senior dog. This can help you treat any issues earlier on, proactively helping your dog to live a long, healthy life.
  1. What are some reasons people should consider adopting a senior dog?
  • They’ve had time to fine-tune their manners.
  • You can teach an old dog new tricks. In fact, many think senior dogs are more trainable than puppies.
  • They’re comfortable with who they are and, typically, what you see is what you get.
  • They’re past the chewing and middle of the night walk stages.
  • They Settle in Quickly: Older dogs have been around the block and already learned what it takes to get along with others and become part of a pack. They’ll be part of the family in no time!
  • They Enjoy Easy Livin’: An older dog won’t have as high-energy as a young dog who will run you ragged. Not that older dogs don’t require any exercise—they do—but they’re not going to need, or want, to run a marathon every day.
  1. What are some tips for people looking to adopt a dog from a shelter?
  • Shelters receive new dogs every day; keep coming back if your best friend isn’t found on your first visit.
  • Most shelter dogs are house trained and do not require extensive retraining.
  • Some shelter dogs were dropped off simply because of their age. A senior dog can be calm and well behaved, which may be a perfect match for you.
  • Love and attention could be all it takes to turn an abandoned dog into your new best friend.

SiliGuy is a smart (and fun!) accessory for your smartphone!

5de3cf1f905fafc6169286ed8548be91981432a1

Siliguy is a smart accessory for your smartphone! This is a flexible cell phone Universal Car mount but Siliguy can be used other places besides the car. This really is such a smart idea and is prefect for both adults and kids. I like that it is very flexible and it really seems to hug the phone. You can even use it to hang your phone while it is charging! I love using this in the kitchen for e- recipes. No more printing recipes for me!  I did try it on my bike’s handlebars and it did stay secure but not sure if I would use it too often that way. Over all,  this really is a fun way to keep my cellphone secure. I love it because it also makes it easier to not lose your phone! I know many friends that misplace their phone so this would be very helpful! It would make a great holiday gift for both adults and kids and would be the perfect stocking stuffer!

FOG ISLAND MOUNTAINS by Michelle Bailat-Jones

This month, Audible Studios released the audiobook version of FOG ISLAND MOUNTAINS by Michelle Bailat-Jones.

What if you could rewrite a tragedy? What if you could give grace to someone’s greatest mistake?

Huddled beneath the volcanoes of the Kirishima mountain range in southern Japan—also called the Fog Island Mountains—the inhabitants of small town Komachi are waiting for the biggest of the summer’s typhoons. South African expatriate Alec Chester has lived in Komachi for nearly forty years. Alec considers himself an ordinary man, with common troubles and mundane achievements—until his doctor gives him a terminal cancer diagnosis and his wife, Kanae, disappears into the gathering storm. Kanae flees from the terrifying reality of Alec’s diagnosis, even going so far as to tell a childhood friend that she is already a widow. Her willful avoidance of the truth leads her to commit a grave infidelity, and only when Alec is suspected of checking himself out of the hospital to commit a quiet suicide does Kanae come home to face what it will mean to lose her husband.

Narrating this story is Azami, one of Komachi’s oldest and most peculiar inhabitants, the daughter of a famous storyteller with a mysterious story of her own.
