America’s Super Bowl game day favorites Fun data visualization of the top recipes US home cooks are gearing up to prepare for the big game.

Baked Buffalo WingsSlow Cooker Chili IISimple Turkey ChiliMexican Potato Nachos, the world’s largest digital food site with more than 1 billion visits each year, partnered with Tableau Software to share a state-by-state look at America’s Super Bowl game day favorites, including chili, dips, drinks, sandwiches, snacks and wings.  Using a massive amount of data from nearly 95 million visits, Tableau has created an interactive graphic that can be viewed here. Some interesting findings include:

  •  When it comes to snack recipes, we are a nation divided. Depending on where you are, Americans appear to have a strong preference for Little Smokies recipes, nachos or meatballs as their gameday snack of champions. Note that in both Washington and Colorado, the top snacks recipe is Mexican Potato Nachos. However, in New York/New Jersey, the top snacks recipes is The Best Meatballs.
  • New York stands alone as the only state whose favorite chili recipe is turkey over beef.
  • Two dip recipes stand out as head and shoulders above the rest – the recipe for Seven Layer Taco Dip dominates much of the Western part of the country (including California) and the Northeast and Southeastern states have a preference for Buffalo Chicken Dip.
  • The one thing all Americans agree on is wings. The recipes for Baked Buffalo Wings is tops in all 50 states.

This visualization is a fun way to see the flavor and food preferences across the state ahead of the big game.

Ignoramus Ninth title in the award-winning Aldo Zelnick series will leave you irrevocably infatuated.

Ignoramus, an Aldo Zelnick Comic Novel, is now available from Bailiwick Press. An illustrated novel for middle-grade readers, Ignoramus continues the laugh-out-loud adventures of 10-year-old Aldo Zelnick. If there’s a more inopportune date for an elementary school boy to have a birthday than February 14th, Aldo Zelnick wants to know what it is. With his 11th birthday-and Valentine’s Day-fast approaching, Aldo plans a guys-only party with absolutely no pink, lace, or hearts, thank you very much. But, what will happen if the girls, who all seem to have a crush on Also’s friend, Danny, crash the party? My son and I loved this book and I really liked that Aldo’s friend Bee contributes to Aldo’s sketchbook. My son (who is 10) found the book so funny and interesting that he read it within an hour or so. He couldn’t put it down! My son also loves the Wimpy Kid series but thinks Aldo is smarter and can relate more to him.

The Aldo Zelnick books, hardcover novels for 7-to 13-year-olds, feature the hybrid half-text, half-illustration format made popular by the Wimpy Kid series. The series starts 10-year-old Aldo Zelnick, a budding artist who hates physical activity but loves bacon. When Aldo’s grandmother gives him a blank sketchbook for recording “all his artsy-fartsy ideas,” a reluctant Aldo begins writing and drawing the story that becomes the first book in the alphabetical series, Artsy-Fartsy. You may remember SoCal City Kids reviewing the other books in the series! We are big fans and are looking forward to the next! This one would make a great upcoming Valentine’s day gift!

North Mall Area to Make Way for Two-Level Mall at Del Amo Fashion Center Stores relocating to new spaces by end of January

Stores in the north mall area of Del Amo Fashion Center will begin relocating to their new spaces by January 31, to make way for construction of a new two-level mall as part of a complete transformation of South Bay’s premier retail destination.

The section of the north mall slated for closure and relocation runs from Typo and Lids, moving north up to H&M, where the center’s outdoor lifestyle wing starts. The state-of-the-art two-level mall will connect the existing Macy’s women’s store with a new Nordstrom store (to be located near the intersection of Hawthorne Boulevard and Fashion Way).

Shoppers can still find their favorite stores (and some stellar deals too) during the relocation and construction with the help of directional signage and additional backlit directories with updated store locations and store information. Directory greeters will be available on select weekends to help shoppers navigate the mall and find the new locations of their favorite stores.

“We’re excited for the transformation of Del Amo Fashion Center that is underway and want to help our loyal shoppers through the process as much as possible,” said Lindsay Hermance, director of marketing and business development at Del Amo Fashion Center.

A list of preliminary store locations thus far, is as follows:

  • Cotton On, Cotton On Kids, Frederick’s of Hollywood, Lane Bryant, MAC, PacSun, American Eagle, Justice, Express and Claire’s are slated to temporarily relocate to the south portion of the center, between Macy’s and Sears. Victoria’s Secret and Lens Crafters will keep their locations in the south portion of the center as well.
  • Temporarily relocating to the second level of the outdoor lifestyle wing are Robert Wayne Footwear and Stride Rite. H&M Men, Women and Kids, which will be relocating by Valentine’s Day, will have two locations on the first level of the lifestyle wing. In addition, Old Navy will celebrate the grand re-opening of its new permanent location on the second level of the lifestyle wing on Jan. 24 and throughout the weekend, through Jan. 26.
  • In addition, the following stores will be relocating to their permanent homes near the new Patio Cafes dining experience, near the central Macy’s store: The Disney Store, Zumiez, Aeropostale, Gymboree and Hollister. Also moving near Patio Cafes is Build-A-Bear Workshop’s newly imagined store, which has been enhanced with innovative technology to provide a richer, more interactive experience for children and families. Shoppers can celebrate at the grand opening on Jan. 24 at 10 a.m. with a special ribbon-cutting ceremony and family friendly entertainment throughout the day.

The community is encouraged to watch the Del Amo Fashion Center Facebook page for up-to-date news on the renovation efforts, including timing of store re-openings.

The redevelopment project will also include enhancements to the outdoor lifestyle village, additional parking capacity with a new 1,900 car garage, the addition of lush landscaping throughout the entire property, new informational signage, and improvements to customer circulation in and around the center. Completion of this work will be timed with the grand opening of Nordstrom in Fall 2015.
