The 16th Annual Fall Back Festival: The Gaslamp Quarter’s Only Event Just For Kids!

It’s a blast from the past the entire family can enjoy at The 16th Annual Fall Back Festival!  Bring the whole gang down for a day of play and educational fun in the historic Gaslamp Quarter. This FREE children’s historical street faire is in the heart of downtown’s Gaslamp Quarter, with the lively festivities taking place on Sunday, November 6, 2016 from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM in front of the William Heath Davis House, spanning 4th Avenue between Market Street and J Street and Island Avenue between 4th and 5th Avenues.
Take a stroll down the historical streets of the Gaslamp Quarter and fall back into San Diego’s wild past of the 1880’s. The whole family can experience the magical old-fashioned atmosphere that is brought to life each year. It is the perfect way to make history fun, yet educational. Kids can saddle up for pony rides, learn about making survival tools and weapons, make a quilt, and even pan for real gold with real prospectors! There is fun to be had for the entire family.
Stop by one of our countless historical booths to learn more about what life was like in the 1800’s in our diverse Gaslamp Quarter with many fun, hands-on activities like fish-rubbing art! Don’t know what fish-rubbing art is? Come out and stop by the Japanese American Historical Booth to find out! Come and be amazed by the incredible skills of our Gaslamp Quarter blacksmith, or if you would like to completely immerse yourself in history, take a photo in time-period costumes at the Grand Ladies of the Old West Photo Booth and keep the memory forever!
Discover the fun side of history with tons of historical demonstrations, reenactments, and other interactive activities all-ages will love. Old-fashioned contests are sure to make your cowboys and girls work up an appetite, but never fear: FREE FOOD is here! Enjoy a variety of free snacks for the kids from some of the Gaslamp’s most favorable food finds like complimentary quesadillas from Mr. Joey’s Taco Shop, hot dogs, vegan muffins, popcorn, cotton candy, root beer floats, ice cream sundaes, and more. While enjoying these endless options of scrumptious food, families and their kiddos can enjoy shows from incredibly talented performers from all over San Diego! Some of these include Del Rio Country Band, Tap Fever Studios, Infinity Gymnastics & Dance, Ballet Folklorico from the Gift of Dance, School of Rock San Diego, and more! Kids and adults can also enter into one of our pie-, and ice cream-eating or even in our bubble gum blowing or pumpkin seed spitting contests for your chance to win some awesome prizes!
The timelessly cherished tradition of Fall Back Festival is a FREE event for the public to enjoy. This Sunday-funday will be filled with numerous historical demonstrators, interactive activities, and live entertainment.
