PBS SoCal 10th Annual PBS KIDS Writers Contest to Celebrate
Young Students On Their Writing Achievements

Humor: Sathvik Vedula (San Ramon)
Kindness: Allyson Oliver (Glendale)
Science Fiction: Katherine Moreno (Los Angeles)
Illustration: Brittany Chen (Irvine)
What: Join PBS SoCal and the Los Angeles Public Library in celebrating the young students on their writing achievements in the 10th Annual PBS KIDS Writers Contest. This celebratory and free event will include an awards presentation and live storytelling
from the contest winners themselves. RSVP is required via their website.
The Writers Contest is locally funded by Compass Charter Schools.
Program: After the reception concludes, the program will begin at 3:00 p.m. with opening remarks from Host Kyle Stokes (KPCC Education Reporter) and LA Libraries’ Madeline J. Bryant (Principal Librarian / Associate Director). The sixteen winning stories
will be read to the audience and the winners will receive their awards on stage. The program concludes at 4:30 p.m. The winning stories are also published online at [ https://www.pbssocal.org/education/writers-contest/

When: Saturday, June 8, 2019 from 3:00 – 4:30 p.m.
Where: Mark Taper Auditorium – Los Angeles Central Library (630 W. 5th Street Los Angeles, CA 90071)
Parking: The library garage is located on the east side of Flower Street, just south of 5th Street. Flower Street is one-way, south. Parking is $1 from 1:00-5:00 with a library card. (Anyone arriving too early or choosing to stay in the garage past
5:00-5:15 would be charged $8.00 for the day.)
