COACH for Kids® Offers Free Back-School Immunizations at Compton Health Fair

Hundreds of families are expected to attend the Family Health Fair in Compton, where Cedars-Sinai COACH for Kids will be offering free back-to-school immunizations. Just days before Los Angeles area public school children head back to class, COACH will join St. Francis Medical Center, Eisner Pediatric and Family Medical Center, ROADS Community Care Clinic and Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry of USC to offer dental, cholesterol and diabetes screenings, as well as vision tests and free backpacks.

The immunizations offered by COACH for Kids are required for California schoolchildren entering kindergarten and 7th grade. Vaccines available to children on Saturday include those to protect against Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis), meningitis and HPV. Parents must bring their children’s immunization records to the health fair.

“Starting the school year in good health is essential for a healthy and productive year,” said COACH program director Michele Rigsby Pauley, “and the health fair offers the opportunity for children to receive the basic healthcare they need.”

COACH for Kids is part of the Cedars-Sinai Maxine Dunitz Children’s Health Center. With thousands of Los Angeles families living below the poverty line, the COACH mobile medical units offer essential, free healthcare and social services to the community.
