Celebrate Women’s History Month with these books!

WE WAIT FOR THE SUN by Dovey Johnson Roundtree and Katie McCabe; illustrated by Raissa Figueroa: A beautifully-illustrated picture book and powerful family story, capturing a pivotal moment in the life of lesser-known Civil Rights Trailblazer Dovey Johnson Roundtree and her Grandma Rachel and how it made her into the powerhouse we know today.  This is a beautiful story with beautiful illustrations!

LATINITAS by Juliet Menéndez: Juliet Menéndez explores the first small steps that set the Latinitas off on their journeys. With gorgeous, hand-painted illustrations, Menéndez shines a spotlight on the power of childhood dreams. This one is perfect for Middle school readers! I found this one quite fun and interesting to read.

SARAH AND THE BIG WAVE by Bonnie Tsui; illustrations by Sophie Diao: This stunning nonfiction picture book tells the inspiring story of Sarah Gerhardt, one of the first female big-wave surfers—perfect for Women’s History Month! Being someone who has always lived not too far from the beaches, I loved this one! Perfect for elementary school-age readers!
