Islands Fine Burgers & Drinks is the place to go for Happy Hour! (Or anytime that you are hungry!)

Are you looking for somewhere to hang out at Happy Hour?  I highly recommend Islands Restaurants and have to admit I am a bit partial to the Redondo Beach location. My husband and I recently had the opportunity to review the newest Happy Hour specials at the Islands in Redondo Beach and we were both quite impressed. Actually, it is now my very favorite Islands location. The food was delicious and the service was amazing!

I recommend the Mangorita but that is just me! I love blended fruit drinks. They have a wide variety of drink specials. I’m sure you will find the perfect one for you. I really like the appetizers and I was not disappointed with some of the newest offerings. The Island Nachos were a big hit with my husband and I. But, I really liked the new Island hot dogs. There is a Pipeline one which is a delicious chili dog with cheese and onions and a Nalu Nalu hot dog…if you love the Nalu Nalu Burger, you will love this one! The Nalu Nalu is a little spicy but it is so good with the sautéed onion and peppers. Of course, some of the regular menu appetizers are still my favorites too. I can’t go to Islands without having their Spinach & Artichoke Dip and my husband loves their Buffalo Wings!

Besides the food being delicious though…I am always impressed with the service at Islands. We were overly impressed with our server Mitsy and the manager, Dave at the Redondo Beach location. They were personable, friendly and like I said….really made this visit to Islands an amazing one! It is located at 1609 Hawthorne Blvd, Redondo Beach so check it out soon! I know I will be going back!

Local Maritime Cultures Celebrated At Moompetam, The Aquarium’s Eleventh Annual Native American Festival

ER3dT1Z8R9a7VmS9eJ5dlWd0zgDP45FFVtxG8CBAe7s

Several tribes will be represented at the Aquarium through live music and dance, cultural craft presentations, and artifacts of daily life.

Envision what our region was like several hundreds of years ago and learn about the various tribes that maintain their historical connection to the ocean at the Aquarium of the Pacific’s Moompetam: Gathering of the Salt Water People. The Aquarium’s eleventh annual Native American festival will be held Saturday and Sunday, September 19-20, 2015. This event will feature traditional music, dance, storytelling, cultural craft demonstrations, and educational programs. Families will be able to participate in arts and crafts for all ages as well as other activities inspired by local indigenous maritime cultures. Native American artists will present cultural materials, such as basketry, items of adornment, and artifacts of daily life.

Moompetam (pronounced \’mohm peh tahm\), meaning “People of the Ocean,” is derived from the word for saltwater in the Tongva language. For the local, coastal, and island indigenous people of Southern California, the ocean has always been a sacred entity. The maritime native peoples that inhabited ocean waters for thousands of years, including the Tongva, Chumash, Acjachemen, Costanoan, Luiseno, and Kumeyaay, were taught to deeply respect the ocean. The ocean environment is reflected in all aspects of their cultures.

Rubba Ducks are no ordinary Ducks!

unnamed

I love Disney! I guess that really isn’t a big secret!  I was quite interested in finding out about something happening at the Boathouse Restaurant in Disney Springs! There are new ducks swimming around there and it’s not Donald! In a move that would make Disney’s famous duck proud, Rubba Ducks®, the premiere rubber duck toys with personality, has aligned with The Boathouse in Disney Springs in an exclusive deal that makes Rubba Ducks® the ONLY non-Disney item in the Boathouse gift shop

The ducks are super cute and lots of fun to collect and give as gifts. They were founded in 1997, and was the first company to bring character rubber ducks to life. What’s special about these ducks is that they are uniquely designed to communicate their individual personality and characters. While there are the traditional-themed ducks dressed as police, firemen, sports and animals, these ducks go a step further in incorporating specialized hobbies and interests like a train con’duck’tor, a marathon runner duck,  a ‘groovee’ duck, and even a duck who loves a good cappuccino, among many, many others.

image003

I have to admit when I heard about the possibility of reviewing a Rubba Duck..I was just thinking I would be receiving a common, every day rubber duck. You know! The yellow ones that most of our younger kids play with in the bath. Well..I was more than pleasantly surprised! Rubba Ducks are no ordinary rubber ducks! The Rubba Ducks are the only Non-Disney Toy item from the Boathouse and they are quite special!

I received two adorable Rubba Ducks, each with their own unique style! Meet Crystal and Digger!

Crystal    Digger

I love both of these Rubba Ducks! My favorite is Crystal! She is one fancy duck! She hatched on November 3rd. I love how this one is prismatic and sunlight can turn it into a rainbow! Both ducks are very detailed and each of the Rubba Ducks® is adorned with a tattoo on its tail feathers reflecting its unique personality, and their own hatch date and engaging bio found on their trading cards. Another great thing about Rubba Ducks is that they really are for all ages from children to adults! There is one for everyone! I gave Digger to a child friend of mine and he takes it with him everywhere he goes.

Two really cool facts about the Rubba Ducks are that they float upright and all the time! No more rubber ducks falling over! Now, how cool is that!? Rubba Ducks are designed with weights at the bottom so they will always float upright! Try it in your own sink/bathtub/pool!

Another cool fact is about The ‘Hole’ Story. Most rubber ducks have a hole in the bottom which, when used in the bathtub can retain mold. Not Rubba Ducks! There is no hole in the bottom so NO MOLD! This fact is one I really like. I can’t even count how many rubber ducks I have had to throw away in the past because of mold.

Check out Rubba Ducks! You will be quite pleased!
