BREA MALL TO CELEBRATE COMPLETION OF RENOVATION

Simon Property Group, Inc. (NYSE:SPG) and Brea Mall are celebrating putting the finishing touches on the property with a special community event and a series of showcase weekends throughout April and May.

Several areas of the shopping center received upgrades during the transformation, including redesigned mall entrances and new signage, flooring, landscaping, glass handrails, and overhead lighting. Brea Mall now displays updated textures, colors, and amenities such as soft seating and charging stations, creating a more contemporary and inviting shopping environment.

Highlights of the renovation include a faster and larger elevator in Center Court, cosmetic upgrades in the Food Court, family-style restrooms and a new Children’s Play Area on the lower level of the mall near Macy’s Women’s.

“We are thrilled to be able to provide an updated center with new amenities and new places to shop to the community of Brea,” said Anna Cotter, director of marketing and business development at Brea Mall. “We’ve heard some really positive feedback from customers on the new look and feel. People really love the new Children’s Play Area and family-style restrooms.”

Meant to enhance the customer experience and accommodate the growing community of Brea, the new Play Area has become quite a popular amenity for families, said Cotter. It features surrounding soft seating, a playhouse featuring a chalkboard, and various cars, boats and plane play fixtures inspired by the Simon Kidgits Club characters.

Brea Mall’s new family restrooms, which are also a hit, feature five changing stations, two nursing rooms, soft lighting and comfortable chairs, creating a cozy space where parents can feed children and relax. The family-style restrooms are located near the Play Area on the lower level.

The transformation process that started in February 2013 will culminate on April 16, with a Renovation Celebrationfrom 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Brea Mall’s newly remodeled entry way, located between the Macy’s Women’s and Macy’s Men’s, Children and Home stores and next to Red Robin restaurant.

The celebration will include remarks by Brea Mall General Manager, Rajeev K. Chhabra, and Brea Mayor, Brett Murdock, as well as a balloon launch and reception where guests can mingle with Brea Mall, City and Chamber of Commerce officials, enjoy refreshments and participate in photo opportunities. Invited guests will receive special gifts commemorating the celebration.

Festivities will continue through the weekend, as Brea Mall hosts a Family Fun Simon Kidgits Club event on April 19, from noon to 2 p.m. in Center Court. The event is set to feature crafting stations, music, costumed characters, a mobile library, enter-to-win contests, and other entertainment.

A face painter will be available near the new Children’s Play Area. The first 200 attendees will receive a special swag bag with goodies and offers from retailers on a first-come, first served basis. Families can also purchase popcorn to benefit the Simon Youth Foundation, a national nonprofit organization dedicated to helping at-risk students graduate from high school.

The following Saturday, April 26, will give shoppers a taste of what Brea Mall’s updated food court has to offer during the Taste of Brea Mall event from noon to 2 p.m. in the food court, which showcases new flooring, lighting, columns and tables and chairs with banquet-style seating.

Shoppers will receive punch cards to try Brea Mall’s selection of dining options and can enter to win a $100 Simon gift card to put toward free lunches, by sampling all eatery options. The first 200 shoppers who register at the event with their e-mail will receive a swag bag filled with dining and retailer offers. In addition to tasty eats, the event will feature greeters, entertainment, and the launch of Brea Mall’s Surprise and Delight program, in which mall management will greet and reward shoppers with surprise treats and goodies.

Wrapping up the showcase weekends is Indulge: A Stylish Treat for Mothers, which is slated for May 8, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in Center Court. Meant to celebrate motherhood in style, the evening will be filled with refreshments, entertainment and fashion and beauty services, all focused on rewarding moms.  Moms can get styling advice, shop special promotions from participating retailers, enjoy sips, snacks, and swag bags to the first 200 shoppers, and check out complimentary product sampling, mini-makeovers, demonstrations, and more.

During the festivities, customers can check out new shopping options as well. Last year, Brea Mall added Lorna Jane, The Art of Shaving, Tesla and National University. This year, the center announced the upcoming openings of ANGL, Kiehl’s Since 1851, Kelley’s Kookies, Shoe Palace, and a standalone Starbucks with café-like seating in Center Court. Other stores such as Charlotte Russe, Bath & Body Works, The Disney Store, Pac-Sun, Robert Wayne and Forever 21 will receive store remodels.

Shoppers can expect special grand opening events celebrating the center’s exciting new lineup of retailers. For example, Kiehl’s will celebrate its grand opening on April 8 from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. with hands-on activities, arts and crafts for children, refreshments and complimentary 20-minute facials and hand massages. The first 50 customers in line before 3 p.m. will receive a mystery gift card worth up to $500 towards a Kiehl’s shopping spree.

Likewise, The Disney Store will celebrate its grand re-opening on Saturday, May 31, with an Unlocking Imagination ceremony at 10 a.m. on the lower level, near Sears Court. The first 500 guests will receive a complimentary pair of Mickey Ears. The magic continues with a character meet and greet near Sears Court from noon to 4 p.m.

Additional new stores will be announced later this year.
