My son loves the big ships like Titanic and the Queen Mary so for his 9th birthday we decided to stay overnight on the Queen Mary. I had never spent the night aboard the Queen Mary so I was also quite excited when we booked our reservation. My son was counting down the days and finally Sept. 26th (the day before his birthday) finally arrived! His birthday was actually the 27th and he wanted to wake up on his birthday on the Queen Mary. My son had received a Captain’s hat as an early birthday gift and wore it all day aboard the Queen Mary and he loved exploring the big ship wearing his Captain’s hat.
He also enjoyed the Scorpion Tour which really gives you the opportunity to see what it really was like on a Russian Submarine. But, I have to admit, one of my favorite times of the visit was our time in the Tea Room.
My mother-in-law and I love tea so we had made a reservation for lunch. Inspired by authentic British afternoon tea, this was a delightful, and unique experience. The Tea Room is located next to Diana: Legacy of A Princess, A Royal Exhibition on the Sun Deck. We had to experience The Windsor Tea. This began with our choice of gourmet loose leaf tea, delicious tea sandwiches, fresh baked scones and ended with a tray full of sweet Petit Fours. What an amazing harbor and skyline view from the elegant, yet casual Tea Room! The food was delicious and the service was amazing. We actually felt like we were treated like Princesses! We have decided to come back and celebrate our next birthdays in the Tea Room.
There is so much to do on the Queen Mary that we couldn’t experience it all! They have so many different tours. My son loved the Audio-Self tour and my husband and I enjoyed the Ghosts & Legends! You really should check out Ghosts & Legends! This interactive tour is complete with special effects and will leave you wondering if the Queen Mary really is haunted. We enjoyed walking through the old boiler room and reliving tales of ghosts and paranormal incidents. May not be for younger children but great for couples!
So, what else can I say about the Queen Mary? It’s really an unique experience! We loved the Mini Suite which is an over-sized suite with a Queen size bed and has an additional room with a sleeper sofa. What was impressive was how quiet it was! You don’t hear people running up and down the halls. It was very comfy and my son loved the Operable portholes! Everything added up to an amazing birthday celebration!
