This summer, Long Beach Parks, Recreation and Marine will offer hundreds of free and low cost recreational events under the umbrella of “100 Days of Summer.” The Long Beach Convention and Visitor’s Bureau has partnered with the Department to create www.100daysofsummer.org, a searchable calendar of free concerts & movies, Long Beach Sea Festival events, El Dorado Nature Center & historic site events, and ideas for spontaneous fun like hiking, biking, golf, tennis, swimming, and youth and teen programs.

The movie and popcorn are free, and the time spent with family is priceless! Bring a lawn chair, blanket, and picnic-style dinner to share as you enjoy some of your family’s favorite movies.

Homeland Cultural Center: DanceFest
The award-winning Homeland Cultural Center will present their annual display of Long Beach’s amazing diversity with DanceFest 2012. This year’s event will feature performances and demonstrations by Homeland Pop Shop, West Afrikan Drum and Dance Ensemble, Hmong Association of Long Beach, Kutturan Chamoru Performers, Homeland B-Boys, Ballet Folklorico Maria, Culture Shock LA, Ancient Khmer Martial Arts, belly dancer Dancing Tehani, Orlando Greenhill & Sound Army, and DJ Ervin Arana. Dance Fest 2012 will take place at the beautiful and intimate Center Theater, part of the Long Beach Performing Arts Center on Ocean Blvd. Admission is free, and parking is half price ($5) for ticket holders. Family Fun and Concert in the Park: Greg Young and the 2nd Street Band
Each Sunday throughout summer, Long Beach Parks, Recreation and Marine will host scores of local talent in one of many of our local parks! Free face painting, balloon artists, and bouncers will begin at 3 p.m., with a concert from 4 to 6.

Rancho Los Cerritos Summer Concerts: Cris Barber Quintet
Invite friends and family for a free concert on the historic grounds of Rancho Los Cerritos! Gates will open for picnicking after 5 p.m., with concerts from 5:30 to 7:30. The adobe home will also be open for tours. Concerts and tours are free!

Long Beach Municipal Band: Let Us Entertain You
Celebrate the 103rd year of the Long Beach Municipal Band with “The Joys of Summer.” Bring a blanket, chairs, food, family, and friends for a night of brilliant music under the stars. Concerts begin at 6:30 p.m., and are entirely free! This week’s theme will feature music from some of America’s greatest entertainers, including pieces from Cirque du Soleil to Spike Jones. Vocalist Nicole Kubis will join the Studio Band as our featured guest artist.

Summer Concerts at the Nature Center: Kimera
El Dorado Nature Center will open its gates at 6:30 p.m. every Thursday for a special summer concert series! Bring lawn chairs or a blanket, a picnic dinner, and your family, and enjoy the talents of local musicians from 7 to 8 p.m. Entrance is $3 per person, free for children 12 and younger!

Rancho Los Alamitos: Children’s Story Time in the Garden
Children ages 5 to 10 are invited to join us for a relaxing summer series in the historic gardens of Rancho Los Alamitos! Stories will be told from 10 a.m. to noon, every Thursday in July. Story-related crafts, games and tasty treats will be part of the fun! Tickets are $8 and reservations are required, so be sure to visit rancholosalamitos.org for more details.
