Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month

While September brings the official end of summer, it also marks the start of something every woman should be aware of – Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month, and the launch of the Laura Mercier Ovarian Cancer Fund(LMOCF).

The launch of the fund is very personal to the Laura Mercier cosmetics family. Claudia Poccia, President & CEO of the organization, lost her sister to the disease last year, and Laura Mercier has watched a dear friend battle the disease for several years. Please click on “Our Fund” to hear their personal stories.

Raising awareness is more than a phrase in the case of ovarian cancer. Often referred to as the “silent killer,” ovarian cancer is the leading cause of death among gynecological cancers in the United States, and the fifth leading cause of cancer death among American women.

Laura Mercier Cosmetics, the global luxury line of cosmetics, skincare, and fragrance, announces the launch of The Laura Mercier Ovarian Cancer Fund.

The mission of the Laura Mercier Ovarian Cancer Fund is to raise awareness and fund research and educational efforts that will help diagnose, treat and support women with ovarian cancer  – which is the leading cause of death among gynecological cancers in the United States.*

“Both Laura Mercier and I have been personally touched by ovarian cancer – I through my sister, who lost her battle with the disease, and Laura through a dear friend who has been fighting for years,” stated Claudia Poccia, President & CEO of Gurwitch Products, LLC, the company that manufactures and distributes Laura Mercier® products. “Ovarian cancer research needs continued support and funding, therefore it is our shared mission to raise awareness and advance funding to aid in eradicating this disease.”

“Through prevention, education and supporting those who are battling this disease, we will bring new hope to women,” stated Laura Mercier, Global Ambassador for Laura Mercier Cosmetics. “The mission of the Laura Mercier Ovarian Cancer Fund is at the core of our brand, and we are committed to making a difference in the lives of women.”

Beginning in September of this year, in honor of Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month, Laura Mercier will donate 100 percent of the profits from the sale of two products – Bonne Mine Healthy Glow for Face & Cheeks Crème Colour Palette and Rose Hope Lip Glacé – to the Laura Mercier Ovarian Cancer Fund.

Additionally, throughout September and October, Laura Mercier will run public service announcements in leading women’s magazines to raise awareness about the disease. To complement the initiative, the company will launch a dedicated web initiative with mobile application, in-store merchandising and social media support to help educate women about the disease and drive donations to the Fund.

Donations have already been made to the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and Cancer and Careers.

“We are truly grateful to the Laura Mercier Ovarian Cancer Fund for being our partner in this life-saving work,” said Dr. Carol Aghajanian of Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. “Our goal is nothing short of a transformation in the detection and treatment of the disease. This donation allows us the freedom to move quickly on leads, and to test promising theories as they arise.”

To help raise awareness and educate woman about ovarian cancer, Laura Mercier will work with Cancer and Careers, an initiative of the Cosmetic Executive Women Foundation, to develop a series of educational online videos on topics geared toward individuals balancing a career with cancer treatment.

Cancer and Careers is a non-profit organization focused on empowering and educating people with cancer to thrive in their workplace by providing expert advice, interactive tools and educational events.
