Young children starting school will love this one!

MY NAME by Supriya Kelkar; illustrated by Sandhya Prabhat (Farrar, Straus and Giroux BYR, August 1, 2023, Ages 3-6): When an Indian American boy starts school in a new classroom, one child can’t pronounce his name properly, which leads to giggles amongst his classmates. Later at home, his parents remind him of how special he is — and how his unique name reflects that.

This one is just perfect for ages 3-6!

love this one!

THE WORRY BALLOON by Mónica Mancillas; illustrated by Betty C. Tang (Roaring Brook Press, July 11, 2023, Ages 4-8): Mother and author Monica Mancillas teams up with NYT bestselling illustrator Betty C. Tang to give us a thoughtful and reassuring  picture book about how one child experiences anxiety and worry, providing different tools to practice mindfulness and strengthen one’s mental health, including rich backmatter that would give readers of all ages valuable tools to manage anxiety. I really like this one because it addresses some feelings that all children experience.

The Pig, the Elephant, and the Wise-Cracking Bird

By: Michael Sampson and Bonnie J. Johnson

Illustrated by: Joshua Sampson

Meet Ogden Oink, a fun-loving, adventurous, likeable piglet, in Michael Sampson and Bonnie J. Johnson’s The Pig, the Elephant, and the Wise-Cracking Bird. He dresses and speaks as humans do and gets into more than his fair share of difficulties because he interprets figurative expressions literally. This humorous book will get young readers thinking about language-and laughing, too.

This really is such a fun book to read!

Obscura the Cat Sees Beyond

By: Ben Franchi

Illustrated by: Cheyenne Bigham

You are in for a chill and a thrill as you read this mysterious read-aloud book that is sure to be non-stop entertainment. Join Obscura, the not-so-feisty feline, as she navigates her haunted home in search of her owners, encountering all manner of spooky sights along the way.

I think this is a wonderful book to read out loud and children will really enjoy it!
