Vintage Fashion Show and Tea

On Saturday, April 13, 2013 Heritage Square Museum’s annual Vintage Fashion Show and Tea takes a look at “How History Affects Fashion and How Fashion Influences History.”

Beginning at 11 a.m., learn how in our history, fashion affected people’s outlook on life and their view of their social status, thus influencing their potential. For example in 15th century Germany, sumptuary laws forbade the lower and middle class from wearing excessively gaudy raiment. Around Venice, people were restricted from weaving anything but black velvet, so as to make a distinction between town and country. In general, fashion most heavily influences the economy, which in turn affects other aspects of society.

With the museum’s historic Longfellow-Hastings Octagon House as the backdrop for the show, models will promenade in men’s and women’s vintage or period accurate reproduction clothing based on historical patterns. After the show, visitors may also sample items commonly enjoyed at an afternoon tea, view a vintage clothing display inside the Perry Mansion that includes clothing from the era of such shows like “Downton Abbey”, and shop in our Museum Store or Vendor Market.

As the Vintage Fashion Show and Tea often sells out, reservations are required. Call (323) 225-2700 ext. 223 to secure your seats, as no tickets will be sold at the door. Admission is $30.00 for the General Audience and $15 for children 6 to 10 years of age, $22.50 for Museum Members and $7.50 for member children 6 to 10 years of age. Children under 6 are always free. Tickets go on sale Friday, March 1, 2013. As this is a special event, no regular tours of the museum’s historic structures will be given on the day of the fashion show.

Heritage Square, a Cultural-Historical Landmark #1007 for the City of Los Angeles, is a living history museum dedicated to telling the story of the development of Southern California during its first 100 years of statehood. The eight magnificent, rescued historic structures plus our new Colonial Drug Store exhibit tell this story like no place else.

Heritage Square Museum offers tours, exhibits, program and events throughout the year. The museum is open regularly Friday through Sunday from 12 to 4 p.m. Regular admission is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors, and $5 for children ages 6-12.
