Natural Easter Egg Dying is Fun and Simple! Tips from our friends at Whole Foods Market!

WFM - Egg Dye

It’s time to dye Easter Eggs!

How about a more natural way to dye them this year?

I love these ideas from Whole Foods Market!

Color Easter eggs with dyes made at home using fruits, vegetables and spices. Experiment with other colorful ingredients such as red cabbage, blackberries, coffee, tea and grape juice.

I made a trip to our local Whole Foods Market yesterday and I selected Beets, Blueberries and Blackberries. I can’t wait to try this out tomorrow!

Here’s their basic recipe! (As seen above in their video!)

  • 2 cups roughly chopped, raw beets (for pink/red)
  • OR
  • 2 cups blueberries, crushed (for blue/purple)
  • OR
  • 1 teaspoon ground turmeric (for yellow)
  • 1 teaspoon distilled white vinegar
  • Hard-boiled eggs

You can also try other fruits and veggies!  Have fun and get creative!

Cut your choice of coloring ingredient (beets, blueberries or turmeric) into a small pot with 2 cups water and bring to a boil. Cover, reduce heat to medium-low and simmer for 10 minutes. Strain through a fine mesh sieve, discarding any solids, and then stir in vinegar. Set aside to let cool until warm or room temperature.

To color eggs, submerge in dye, turning often for even coating, until desired color is reached. For more colors, dye eggs first in one color, then wipe dry and dye in a second color.

Universal CityWalk Serves up Four-Star Cuisine with the Addition of Acclaimed Chef Ludo Lefebvre LudoBird Restaurant, Opening Saturday, March 26

World renowned Chef Ludo Lefebvre brings his famous buttermilk Provençal Fried Chicken-inspired menu to Universal CityWalk™ with the debut of LudoBird™, serving up a vibrant and flavorful take on the American classic fried chicken sandwich, beginning Saturday, March 26, 2016.

“In my 20th year in Los Angeles, I’m excited to open LudoBird at Universal CityWalk,” said Chef Lefebvre.  “As the top entertainment destination in Los Angeles, CityWalk is the ideal match for my passion for this great city where I can create sensational food everyone can enjoy.”

CityWalk’s new establishment, LudoBird, which originated from Chef Lefebvre’s food truck concept called LudoTruck™, will invite Southern Californians, and guests visiting from around the globe, to dine alfresco on his tantalizing menu of fried chicken, signature sauces and side dishes.

“We are thrilled to welcome celebrated Chef Ludo Lefebvre to Universal CityWalk as we begin to phase in the next evolution of our dynamic CityWalk entertainment complex,” said Larry Kurzweil, President of Universal Studios Hollywood. “LudoBird’s landing coincides with Universal Studios Hollywood’s much anticipated opening of ‘The Wizarding World of Harry Potter,’ and we look forward to entertaining guests with everything that’s exceptional, from attractions to food.”

Celebrating 20 years in Los Angeles in 2016, Chef Lefebvre has shaped many culinary trends on both a local and global level and has gained notoriety as a culinary leader in the Los Angeles dining scene.

Chef Ludo Lefebvre hails from Burgundy, France, where he trained with the great masters of French Cuisine before moving to Los Angeles in 1996.  From the City of Lights to the City of Angels, Chef Lefebvre has redefined fine dining at his acclaimed Los Angeles restaurant, Trois Mec, has given Angelenos a taste of a true Parisian Bistro at Petit Trois, and uniquely combined French and Mexican cuisine for the most exciting brunch spot in town at Trois Familia.

Chef Lefebvre was named “One of The World’s 50 Greatest Chefs” by Relais & Chateaux, a global fellowship of individually owned and operated luxury hotels and restaurants, and was nominated for a James Beard Award in 2001 and 2015.  In 2015, Chef Lefebvre was “knighted” by the French government, receiving the prestigious Chevalier dans l’ordre des Arts et des Lettres award, which recognizes individuals for their contributions in furthering the arts in France and throughout the world, for his outstanding achievements in cultural diplomacy.
