Universal Studios HollywoodSM continues its “Road to Fast” campaign with the debut of a Michelle Rodriguez (“Letty Ortiz”) poster for its all-new thrill ride “Fast & Furious—Supercharged,” opening June 25 as the grand finale of the world-famous Studio Tour.

New books for school readiness from PBS KIDS and DK Publishing

While the school year may be coming to an end, parents know that learning needs to continue through the summer months to make the transition back to school all the smoother come fall. PBS KIDS and DK Publishinghave joined forces to release three new games and books focused on school readiness. Together, PBS KIDS and DK Publishing incorporate everyday items into these educational products to make the learning experience more realistic and relatable for kids. New products include:

  • Get Ready For School Games: Color Match” is designed for kids to practice key skills of recognizing colors, matching colors, and more.
  • Get Ready For School Games: Number Memory” includes number cards that provide kids with an easy-to-understand visual approach on real-life problem-solving activities, such as going shopping and playing sports.
  • I’m Ready for School” is designed to support childhood development through the early years as it focuses on key concepts such as morning routines, eating breakfast, and matching shoes.

These cause products support PBS KIDS and DK Publishing’s joint commitment to school readiness.

The Shops at Montebello Awards Scholarships To Local Students We Care For Youth Program Provides Interview Training and More

The Shops at Montebello recently recognized five local Montebello Unified School District students who completed a three-week We Care For Youth program meant to offer real life training to prepare them to enter the workforce.

 

The Shops at Montebello recently held an Achievement Ceremony at the center recognizing 32 local high school students who completed the special program, including five students who were awarded scholarships:

  • Hugo Zavaleta Rojas ($500), Alexis Serna ($500) and Francisco Ortega Lopez ($250) from Schurr High School
  • Erika Garfias ($250 ) from Montebello High School
  • Katherine Romero ($500) from Applied Technology Center

 

“Connecting with youth and preparing them for the real world is important to The Shops at Montebello, and to our local community partners,” said Marida Petitjean, Director of Marketing and Business Development at The Shops at Montebello.

 

During the We Care for Youth program, a limited number of juniors and seniors attended 2-hour sessions Monday through Thursday at The Shops at Montebello for three weeks. During the sessions, which were taught by instructors Kenneth Seto and Sterling Schubert, attendees dressed in business attire and learned the best way to apply for a job, how to manage time effectively and how to professionally work with customers.

 

Meant to enhance students’ opportunities for future employment and education, the free program focuses on building interpersonal skills, interview skills, assertiveness and more. A partnership between The Shops at Montebello and the Montebello Unified School District, the program aims to help uncover students’ unique and natural talents and grow them into practical, real-world strengths, while building self-confidence and self-awareness.

PBS KIDS announces all-star line up and premiere date for NATURE CAT

NATURE CAT premieres on Wednesday, November 25, 2015, and characters will be voiced by Saturday Night Live stars Taran Killam (Nature Cat), Kate McKinnon (Squeeks), Bobby Moynihan (Hal) and Kenan Thompson (Ronald) and Kate Micucci (Scrubs, The Big Bang Theory). The new animated series, for kids ages 3-8, is designed to encourage children to explore and develop connections with the natural world.

Created by brothers David Rudman (“Cookie Monster” and “Baby Bear” on SESAME STREET; “Scooter” and “Janice” on The Muppets) and Adam Rudman (Tom & Jerry, SESAME STREET, CYBERCHASE), NATURE CAT is a co-production of Spiffy Pictures and WTTW Chicago.

NATURE CAT follows Fred, a house cat who transforms into Nature Cat, “backyard explorer extraordinaire.” With the help of his animal friends, Nature Cat embarks on action-packed adventures full of nature investigation, “aha” discovery moments and humor, all while inspiring children to go outside and “play the show.”

Tickets Now On Sale for The Queen Mary’s 5th Annual Shoreline Jam Festival September 5-6 Matisyahu and The Green to Headline Two-Day Labor Day Weekend Fest

The Queen Mary is pleased to announce the lineup for the 5th annual Shoreline Jam FestivalSept. 5-6 at the Waterfront Event Park. Matisyahu will headline the fest on Saturday, September 5 and The Green will headline the stage on Sunday, September 6. Tickets for Shoreline Jam are currently on-sale.

Matisyahu first made a name for himself with his album Live at Stubbs, and Youth quickly followed. Both albums subsequently went Gold and Youth was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album. Matisyahu’s fifth studio, Akeda, will be available on June 3 and was recorded in Brooklyn’s Studio G, produced by Dub Trio’s Stu Brooks. Matisyahu states, “This record and period of my life deal with madness, listening for and following the inner intuitive voice, a small still sound. This record deals with love, with feelings of brokenness and humility, with humanity, struggle, and sacrifice.”

The Grouch & Eligh, Seedless, Kimie Miner, Brewfish, and more artists will join Matisyahu on the Shoreline Jam stage on Saturday, September 5.

The Green struck the reggae community hard with their debut album from 2010.  Their sophomore LP Ways & Means solidified their status as a force in reggae music.  With Hawai‘i ’13, the band aims higher.  The album collects 13 stellar tracks by a group with an insatiable urge to push their music onto the global stage.  Some songs punch and some songs sway, but ultimately they all blend to form a new shade of Green. Stick Figure, Shwayze, and Bad Apples among other top reggae rock acts will also take the stage on Sunday, September 6.

“Last year we expanded Shoreline Jam into a new two-day festival and we are thrilled it was such a success,” commented Steve Sheldon, Queen Mary Director of Entertainment Events. “Spending Labor Day weekend with Matisyahu and The Green performing live on the waterfront sounds like the perfect way to celebrate the holiday weekend.”

Memorial Day with SweetWorks

I can not believe that it is almost Memorial Day weekend! This school year has really gone by so quickly! I love SweetWorks Gumballs, Sixlets and all their other candy and love that they have Red, White and Blue choices for this upcoming holiday. They would be great for the upcoming 4th of July too! My favorite are the Sweet Shapes which are Red, White and Blue Stars and are great for decorating cookies and cupcakes! Yum! My son still loves those Sixlets and he thinks it is pretty cool that they come in Red, White, and Blue.

Looking for a soap that you can use both on your body and your face? I absolutely love this soap by the soap.club! I love that it is Olive Oil based and that it really does leave my skin feeling softer. My skin has been feeling really dry since the Winter and this soap is really helping with my dry skin. It really lathers up and feels like I am putting lotion on my skin. I also like that there are no artificial colors or unnecessary chemicals added. The soap has a very nice smell and does not smell like perfume. I like that it is also good to use on my face. I still have wrinkles so they haven’t quite disappeared but my face feels softer and I am really impressed that my dryness seems so much less. It is very moisturizing and gentle on my skin. I like that this company also offers a wide variety of different soap scents and am looking forward to trying other soaps in the future.
